I had the exact same thing happen to me... I was in my quarantine groove, had the best control, then randomly had NO control for a week haha! That's typical diabetes :P . Love the video Andrea! Thanks for always being so real ❤️

Though I wish it wasn't the case for you - your words do make me feel less alone! Thank you so much Michelle!! Sending you a Raffi big love and strength for the week ahead ❤️❤️❤️

Loved your video, so informative and straight forward, you never said um once!! I have been T1D for 37 years, am now 74 yrs old. Your description of living on a needle mirrors my life so exactly. Raising 4 children with a demanding husband farmer (I've been farming since I was 8 years old) has been as you said an ups and down struggle. All the highs and mostly lows kept my life totally out of control no matter how hard I tried. After the end of farming my husband became a long haul trucker so I was trying to manage our home base mostly alone, not good for a diabetic. I'd come to on the floor after severe lows, rescues from my brother and my mother and even the fire department. My crazy life was finally rescued when my Dr pushed through the paperwork for me to start on a pump in 2010. As you said, such a new and terrifying experience to deal with, connected to a device forever. After 10 years and on my 2nd pump and almost due for my 3rd, my control and lack of lows has made life so much easier. I can feel a low coming long before I'm out of control. I also have thyroid and blood pressure issues under control so even in this pandemic, my last A1C was 6.5 and my Dr is extremely happy with me. There is still much life to live after good control!!

You are such a sweetie! I have been watching you for a couple of weeks now and I always learn something important when I do. Today's watch from three years ago was a goldmine for me. I am 70, have type two diabetes, and I'm on an insulin pump. (Medtronic 780G) I've had it for a bit over a month and I'm still having a bit of trouble with the highs. I'm too old for your particular issue, but my gastroparesis will have the same effect on me. So, when my sugar is too high and I am not hungry, well, I just don't eat. I have often been told to eat several small meals throughout the day, but if I'm not hungry why pile on more? Anyway, this post made me feel better about my meal decisions. Glad I found you, Lynda

I just watched this video and I found it so encouraging: I am recently diagnosed (October 2019) and still coming to terms with everything. I am so heartened to see that the thought processes I go through each day regarding food are so similar to what you are doing... I also have had to run up and down my stairs numerous times to get the levels moving - I am still MDI and sometimes it just takes so long to get it turned around.

Oh Alison - thank you! I'm so so sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. It's never easy, but I'm sure given COVID and everything it's been particularly overwhelming for you. I'm so glad to hear you're finding the videos useful - truly that is my pleasure and a gift to me! So often we all just live in our own bubbles with this disease as a result of it being so rare, and I found that particularly overwhelming when I was first diagnosed. I promise you, it does get easier, and you're already implementing things that it's taken me years to discover - so truly it sounds like you're doing AWESOME! It's such a pleasure to meet you and I thank you so much for your kind words and comments! Sending you tons of diabuddy love!! 💙💙💙

    Hi Andrea
My names Les, ive watched some of your vlogs and its so nice to see someone whos so jolly and lovely when they have a cronic condition as you have. All the things you have to do every day is incredible and you still remain so upbeat. I know part off that is having your very understanding and caring boyfriend. Ive had a double heart valve replacement, i also have copd.
I have a lovely caring wife Janine who has fibromyalgia and two grown up daughters that look after me, it makes a massive difference to how you feel mentally. I take a few medications a day to keep things in check, but it seems nothing to what you have to do. Your such a inspiration to people who live with illnesses and i thank you for that anyway take care of and keep smiling.
Les x ps thought you were great in homeland.

And I'm so happy for you that you have a caring and loving structure around you - one that I'm sure you're also actively a part of too!! Support and care does indeed make a massive difference and I owe so much of my positivity to those around me that so selflessly support me and fill me up when I'm struggling. Thank you for reminding me of this through your message. Sending you and your beautiful family so much strength, love, health and happiness!!! With joy, always!!! Your videos always seem to get right to the point. Getting ready for the Minimed 780g which I'm getting in about another month and since no-one ever told me i could carb count rather than use plain "feel" or intuition for dosing my insulin I'm feeling a lot of support from videos like this, especially when you film operating your pump. 14 years into diabetes I'm just learning what my actual carbs per unit is. It's about 8 g carbs per unit in the day and 3 g in the early mornings. Feels good to know!

What a fantastic video and I just subscribed to your Channel! I am definitely not as good in control as you are but I have gone to more of a low-carb diet and that helped me lose 30 lb over the past year and a half. I think this is a great video to show to our non-diabetic friends exactly how difficult and how on top of things we have to be all the time when it comes to our illness. I look forward to more videos!

    Hi Andrea,
Sorry you had such a tough week. Glad this week is much better.
It's strange no matter how long we have had this type 1 , and have been through many things with it, and therefore gained a lot of experience, still it can give us a hard time. The other day same breakfast, Same every thing and one day perfect levels, and the next high most of the day, until I got it down going for a good walk.
    Very frustrating.
So thankyou for sharing, I am sure it happens to all of us, and to realise we have done nothing wrong, its Just that it's so unpredictable.
    Take care

Thank you so much for your kind words Rex!! And oh gosh I really hear you on the unpredictable frustration front - I really do!! I think you put it perfectly too - the most important thing is to realise that we did nothing wrong and it's not completely in our control. Easier said than done, but important nevertheless. Sending you strength and wishes for a wonderful week ahead - with a little more predictability ;)

Great Video! You sure know how to keep us T1D engaged.. I felt like yelling at my screen to give you some advice.. Obviously, not possible and I'm really late in watching this video.. I too am trying to add some cardio into my life, especially when my sugars are out of control.. However, if you have access to weights or not, doing lounges really make a difference.. Also, I don't know how you eat so darn clean, I haven't scouted for it, but I'd be interested in more snacks you may divulge in.. My nighttime snacking is just out of control (hence how I stumbled on one of your videos!)

I hear you on the nighttime snacks situation...I've been doing a LOT of chocolate post-holidays and am trying to switch to Keto chocolate so the effects are less strong on my blood sugar readings but oh! I HEAR YOU! I often find when I'm eating late at night it's because I'm tired and actually should move my bedtime up and hour or so. That's just me, and I know it's not realistic for everyone, but that's my little tip!

I’m not diabetic but I like to cook food for my diabetic boyfriend and I. I just need some help in what I can prepare for him without spiking his sugars. Lately they’ve been going crazy no matter what we do or eat and it makes him very frustrated cause I see how much he is trying. When you said to accept the highs and lows, that it happens to everyone,it made me feel a bit better and gave me ideas on how to talk to him when he is feeling particularly emotional about not being able to control his sugars. This is my first video of yours but I have your dating and diabetes video next on the list. Thanks a bunch for your thorough video!

Does the pump tell you how how much insulin is still active ? Love when my sugar is 97 . Thank you so much for your inspiration. I'm sick of them saying we will show you easy diabetic meals to make and they turn out to be complex, expensive and really hard to track down the ingredients and usually what they make looks god awful. Your video about the chia seed pudding actually made me go out and buy the chia seeds and unsweetened almond milk and give it a try. It was cheap and easy to make It's in the fridge at the mom ent so I have no idea what it will taste like but it was quick, easy and no fuss. When you were at 100 with an arrow straight down, what made you confident that your blood sugar wasn’t going to start dropping faster? You just seemed so calm at that point! My boyfriend is diabetic, and if he was at 100 and dropping, we would be moving real fast to get him some carbs. Is it your experience that your pump administers insulin slowly enough that you don’t plummet so fast, or is there another reason you feel confident at 100 and dropping? My boyfriend still does shots, and sometimes I wonder whether that makes his blood sugar drop really quickly versus a pump.

  • @pickledrick5158

Hi, some things that might help with menstrual rises might be to limit carbs the week prior maybe instead of 50g a meal try 25 or 30 g of carbs. Maybe increasing the basal rate around the time you see constant spikes? 200s does not look too bad you seem well controlled and not insulin resistant, for people with poor control they might prescribe Glucophage XR (metformin) as it is an oral hypoglycemic agent that fights insulin resistance. I also read an article that sometimes the only true solution is birth control pills, which might pose other problems. Thanks for the positivity, I enjoy watching your videos!

hey Andrea! you eat so healthy and clean!! idk if you do this i'm guessing you do but a small tip for us girls who have to deal with t1D and periods - after a few months of adjusting and trying i have finally created a new basal rate just for my periods bcoz i spike quite a bit too almost 1.5-2 weeks prior to my periods. So the day i realise my sugars are spiking i change to basal rate 2(period version haha!) . Seems to work wonders - i mean there are still a few ups and downs but relatively much much lesser. Makes me feel more confident and in control of my BG. Oh and right after my period ends i shift back to the basal rate 1(regular one) as my sugars start dropping quite low. ANYHOW love you and love this video!!

Yes! Totally try it out and see what it does for you! Some people report it isn't an issue at all, and others find it creates a huge spike - I'd be so interested to see what you experience! :)

Since you like those bursts of sweetness...have you tried Lakanto monkfruit sugar substitute? I get it on Amazon. It would be great for your chia seed pudding. I don’t like it so much in hot drinks like coffee, but in most things, it tastes just like sugar.

I've heard about this but never tried it! I shall give it a go - especially in the Chia Seed Pudding - thank you! :)

Hi, I am diabetic 1 and celiac. Having a very hard time with my blood sugar. Insulin doesnt seem to work, even tried different insulins. The celiac disease isnt helping. I work as a cashier and always moving, which doesnt help much. I end up dropping at work, sometimes several times. This is a total nightmare.

How come your in the UK and you use mg/dl? I think mg/dl seems easier but ive only ever known mmol. I didnt think you had to minus the fibre from carbs on UK packaging, i thought that was only a US thing.

Great question! It is a little confusing how I do things...! Basically I'm American but I live in the UK, so I'm used to mg/dl but because the UK uses mmol/L I sometimes have to revert to that. And when it comes to fiber, I've never been taught differently from country to country, so I remove fiber weather I'm in the US or UK, but that's just me! I hope this helps answer your question - I know my situation is a little unique and can be, at times, very confusing!
