  • The hideout of Switzerland: The Valposchiavo. This valley is one of the most underrated places in all of Switzerland. There are beautiful villages, many nice hiking trails, lakes and even one of the most scenic train rides in the world and in Switzerland: the Rhaetian Railway (Rhätische Bahn). The village of Poschiavo has roughly 1500 inhabitants and is a very much alive village. It marks the centre of the Valposchiavo, there are many beautiful houses, churches, alleys and museums. Do visit the Casa Console to see the many beautiful paintings, the Casa Tomé to learn more about the traditional way of life in this part of Switzerland and the Palazzo di Bassus to learn about the history of this Valley. The Palazzo di Bassus gives you an insight into the rich families of the Valposchiavo and the history of emigration of local people who became very successful confectioners abroad and returned rich. The village of Poschiavo is very beautiful but there is a lot more to discover in this valley:
    • Lago di Poschiavo: This is the largest lake in this valley. It is between Poschiavo and Brusio. The lake is very calm, you get a nice panorama with the Swiss alps and the Rhaetian railway.
    • The Rhaetian Railway considered UNESCO world heritage and marks one of the most beautiful train tracks in all of Switzerland. The railway starts in Tirano and passes the Bernina pass
    • The circular viaduct of Brusio: This circular viaduct is one of the most beautiful one of its kind. It is also considered UNESCO world heritage and marks a great subject for photography in Switzerland
    • The Lago di Saoseo, one of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland. This lake needs to be accessed from Sfazu and you will have to hike for about 2 hours
    • San Romerio: The church of San Romerio is one of the best subjects for photography in the Valposchiavo. The road up there is very narrow and challenging. However, you will get to one of the calmest spots you have ever been. This is the real Switzerland! Calm, serene, natural beauty!

I visited Poschiavo in June 2022, I slept there one night and arrived by Bernina Express. I have never seen or heard of San Romerio - amazing place 😯👍 Saluti dalla Polonia

Visiting this area in September. Thanks for the video. The church on the mountainside shots are beautiful! As I’m traveling public transportation I can only see it on your video so I appreciate this.

Hi Ryan. I am very happy that you visited the Valposchiavo, although you should have spent more time there. San Romerio is VERY much a place for YOU :) Just use a small car to drive up there. Else you will have a very hard time ;) I am looking forward to meeting you again soon!

Hiii. You will definitely love it there! And it's a lot cheaper than the Engadin region that is more touristy. Valposchiavo is great to combine with Lago di Como in Italy :)

FYI - deer meat = "Venison" in English. What a beautiful place! I don't know Graubunden at all - this must join my list of Bucket places! As usual, great camera work.

Hi Gaby. Ahh thanks! I keep forgetting that :-S lol. I should really incorporate this into my English! I can really recommend you to visit Graubünden. It's a very interesting and unique region in Switzerland. It's the only canton that is officially tri-lingual.

I've tried to visit Poschiavo twice already (on trips from Australia) but its always too much of a detour from everything else I'm doing so the train rides end up being 6 hours! It looks absolutely wonderful though, so I definitely intend to do it next time (if I get so lucky).

Ciao. Gli abitanti della Valposchiavo parlano italiano. Il dialetto è una variante del lombardo. Ma parli soprattutto anche tedesco. Tuttavia la lingua ufficiale in Valposchiavo è solo l'italiano.
