    In case nobody mentioned it The Global view and User view can be totally different. If you open the mix window and look near the bottom left click on the channel list button if it's not already open and look to the right of that and you will see "Remote". CLick on remote and trun on or off what you want to have available on your xtender. Then you can make a user defined layer or fader layout that's different from the global view. Pretty cool. I have an Xtouch and an Xtouch extender both being able to have different set ups. For example by xtouch extender is set to only view my 8 mix busses. That way I always have those faders available to me regardless if I am changing banks on my Xtouch.

I've an iPad so I use TouchOSC as a companion surface for the most importants commands in addition to the X-Touch (as you can see here (bottom left): www.dropbox.com/s/babbpac3r5k95q3/IMG_4734.JPG?dl=0 ) and as you could see I have dual screen so for ex. no need the scrub button to switch to the Console view (who's great for single screen, I agree !!!) but I coud'n assign the scrub button to something else... @tanza: thanks for the hint but I guess this works in Logic but not in S1. The X-Touch support seems to be more complete in Logic. Please can you check in your Logic installation if there is a file like MackieControl.support.xml also to check how it was implemented in Logic? Maybe we can get some ideas for S1 configuration as well.

I think it will be a good idea to try to implement this to chaging banks and maybe theres is no need to use two buttons. Thanks for such a comprehensive video! Some questions:
    - Can the plugin controls also be flipped from the encoders to the faders?
    - Can the faders also work as MIDI CC for controlling plugins? Does this require a reboot and change of modes, or can I record in automation and then move back to the big picture?

    • @soundrocketstudios
      @soundrocketstudios  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes to the first one. You can flip encoders and faders in every moment and in every mode.
      Unfortunately no for the second one. It's not a free mappable midi controller I mean....the faders are "internally mapped" as part of the control surface so they can't be mapped as wished
      You probably can do that with the x-touch compact
      I'm 99% sure on the second one but I'll check asap to give u a 100% 😁

    I have an odd question. I have a Soundcraft Sig22MTK mixer that I use as an interface to my Mac. I also use both Ableton and Studio One 5 for my DAWs. I am wondering if I take the feed from my USB out of the Sig22MTK into the X-Touch and then go from there to my Mac, will I be able to use the motorized faders on the X-Touch and all of the other features to record live into either Ableton or Studio One? I realize that this unit is well suited for post production, and that is how I would mostly use it, but I was just wondering. My Soundcraft does not have motorized faders, and this would be cool. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

    • @soundrocketstudios
      @soundrocketstudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If i got your question, you'd like to use the USB (audio interface) features of your 22mtk connecting it to the x touch. It could definitely work 😊 (just tried with my Id44 using the x touch as a bridge, just as explained up here)
      I usually don't do this because of probable increased latency/another step between computer and monitors and so another step for cables (even if we're talking about a digital signal since it's usb) bla bla...
      BUT the answer is yes you could definitely do it 😊

      I just got these working myself, so in case you haven't figured it out by now, or for the benefit of anyone else ... If you find where the F3 and F4 are missing in the XML file, it should read Command control="F3" command.category="Navigation" command.name="Page Up Skip" and Command control="F4" command.category="Navigation" command.name="Page Down Skip" ... Basically, anything that is listed in the keyboard shortcuts menu option, you use the category name and the command name.

    Hi, Nyroh! Need your help!!
    I work in the NI Kontakt sampler with orchestral libraries from Spitfire, Cinematic Studio and VST synthesizers of orchestral instruments
    from SWAM. To work, you need to control the parameters of dynamic automation (Volume, Expression, Vibrato, etc.). I am considering buying a Behringer X-Touch midi controller because it has motorized faders. This is what is required in my work.
    On the forum of the Presonus website, I did not find an answer to my question.
    Please help me. For convenience, I will state my questions on the points:
    1. Is it possible to bind X-Touch faders to the Volume, Expression, Vibrato parameters in each NI Kontakt orchestral library
    so that they are permanently stored in memory for permanent use?
    2. I will be happy if point 1 is possible! We will need your help to understand how to configure this in Studio One:)
    3. If point 1 and 2 are possible, will the X-Touch motorized fiders automatically be attracted to the already recorded
    dynamic automation settings?
    Thank you in advance! I really hope for your help!!!

    Great video. I am evaluating the X-Touch vs the Presonus Faderport8. curious if you also looked at the Faderport products? I had the X-Touch for a few weeks, and just returned it to look at the Faderport8, but based on your video, might re-visit the X-Touch. I like the fact the X-Touch has a couple of USB ports, 3 footswitch pedals, channel level LEDs, larger jog wheel and knobs on each channel, so you can adjust multi channels panning at the same time easier than with one knob on the Faderport. I found your video very helpful, given it is hard to find decent documentation on the X-Touch, except for Studio One review of Mackie Control parameters. cheers Dave from Toronto Canada

      About the fp8 Yes indeed! I looked at the faderport and wanted to get it first but after seeing it and touching it I decided not ot go for it...
      Not a well made dontroller for real (like... I'm talking about the controller itself). The only thing that could make me get the fp 16 (not the 8) is the 16 faders plugin control but apart from it (and maybe the colored buttons) there's nothing that I liked on the fp8 enough to get it

      I moved from SONAR to Studio One 18 months ago. And am very happy with one big exception. Studio One's implementation of the Mackie Control protocol is really poor in comparison. You will be able to do so much more with this control surface in SONAR. You saw in this video how he showed several buttons that do nothing. This is really poor from Presonus. He skirted past the Modifier buttons in this video (Control, Shift, Alt, etc). In SONAR these give you access to probably another 40 or 50 functions. Presonus barely even acknowledges their existence. So the short answer is Yes, you will have a great experience with the X Touch in SONAR. For example he showed that he could not change the resolution of the Jog Wheel. In SONAR you can choose to scroll by bar, beat or frame by holding down these buttons when scrolling. That is just one of dozens of examples I could mention.

      Ok here I am! I have some answers:
      1) the x touch compact has 7 bit faders and I can't find anything about the x touch but feel like it's 7 bit too. Really can't find an answer. I'll look some more though!
      2) no you can't scrool the arrangement horizontally without moving the cursor.
      What I didn with the reprogramming is not that difficult, and can surely be done by anyone and to answer more easily your question, here's what you can do: open up the original script and the new one. You'll find the few mods instantly (they're like 5 or 10) and understand how it works ;)
      I'm not saying this ABSOLUTELY because I don't wanna explain it to you, I'll make a video about it one day for sure. I really don't remember how I did that and can't check now (I'm graduating in the next three weeks and I'm super incredibly busy and full of things to write and do! Teally sorry!) 🤣

      Horizontal scrolling is (for me) the most used function in production and I can't understand that noone feels the same. I always have to use the mouse there while a big knob stares at me saying: sorry.
      What are you graduating in? I want to build a piece of hardware that does the job of horizontal scrolling (and some extra functions). Would you be interested in such or are you saying, this is not what I really need?

      I like the idea of horizontal scrolling but sincerely haven't ever used it. I eventually always did it with zomming in/out and moving the cursor and since I do mostly mixing and work with markers, after editing I don't look much at the arrangement 🤔
      Will try to implement it and tell you how I feel asap! Thank you for letting me know about this!!!

    • @sebastianteister
      @sebastianteister 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@soundrocketstudios You always have to scroll horizontally in DAWs imo. When editing parts/patterns, when working at the arrangement, when working in the console/mixer and have more channels than fit on the screen.
      Only option (in S1) is Shift+MouseWheel or dragging the top/bottom scrollbars.
      For me it's absolutely natural, after having done some editing (either arrangement or part) to scroll to the next point of interest while the song/part is playing.
      To move the locator/cursor with the knob - it's same with the Faderport btw - is absolutely useless in that scenario as the song locator is captured while playing.
      I want to HEAR if my last edit is ok while already working on the next spot.
      This is a major flaw with all DAWs I tested, S1, Live, Cubase.
      Especially S1 can't scroll the viewport but only does page flipping. Arrangement as well as Part editing. You can't look (and thus think) ahead because you don't see what comes next when the locator is at the viewports end. You have to grab the mouse and pull the scrollbar. I hate that so much.

    Hi Nyroh,
    great video :-). I bought a X-Touch a few days ago and I start tweaking around with the MackieControl.surface.xml. It seems to be possible to map multiple commands when specific button is pressed. However, I add the commands for changing the view of the banks which is assigned to F1 and F2 in your customized xml to the button fader bank left and right. Each time I press fader bank left will now switch 8 channels to the left and also the vie in S1 and when I click the fader bank right it switch 8 channels to the right and also in S1. Great :-).
    I'm still trying to find a solution to map the input gain from S1 to the volume pot for each channel instead of changing the volume of the channel itself. Do you have an idea how to tweak the configuration like follows?
    When specific channel is selected, the upper pot should control pan as it is and when going to flip mode it should change the input gain of the specific channel and not the volume of the channel (as it is by default) fader should still control volume of channel :-). Maybe there is some tweaking necessary in the MackieShared file somehow but I got no clue :-).
    Have you found any useful documentation about the tweaking the configuration files?
    Thanks a lot!

      Hey @@PhatNoizeRecords, thank you!
      Answer to the first question: sorry but I really don't know how to do it. It would be too much of a hustle I think... you would need to create something like a general "modifier"/layer. Giving the possibility to use faders or pots to control something like the input gains (which is a specific parameter present in every channel) is more of a thing like "go into pan mode" or "go into sends mode", with the upper buttons and applies to all the other controls of the x-touch. Don't know how to do it, sorry!
      I'm also not on mac so don't know if logic uses something like a similar xml file to read the x touch mappings

      Ciao! X touch compact purtroppo, a parte le funzioni base simili, funziona in modo piuttosto diverso dall'x touch quindi non so dirti se sia buono o no... Sicuramente è compatibile, ti consiglio di cercare qualche confronto. Nel caso comunque il tuo range sia intorno ai 300 (x touch compact costa da noi 250-300), nel caso ti piaccia il format degli x touch ti consiglio vivamente di estenderlo di poco e prendere quello normale che è ben più avanzato del compact, anche avendo gli scribble strip (e nel caso ti servisse avresti anche questo script)
      Nel caso invece ti piaccia davvero il faderport 8 (guardarne uno dal vivo che è più piccolo di quanto sembri... Io non l'ho trovato molto ergonomico dal vivo) e non ti servisse subito, potresti attendere e vedere se ne esca uno nuovo a breve (febbraio 2017 è uscito il primo, febbraio 2018 il 16 quindi forse febbraio 2019 uscirà qualcosa ma non fidarti di me, non ne sono certo) 🤣

    • @stevenhirsch7988
      @stevenhirsch7988 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really wanted the ability to open the channel editor and step backwards and forwards through plugins. Turns out there's a workaround. By default, F7 pops up the first plugin. Then, when open, you can scroll through plugins by holding Option down and using FaderBank Left/Right buttons. Also, you can scroll through the presets for a plugin by holding Option and using Channel Left/Right buttons. I haven't seen the Option modifier documented anywhere, but I spotted it in the the original XML file while trying to figure out why the F-key mappings weren't working.

    • @soundrocketstudios

      It shouldn't "remove" the possibilty to map the F buttons though! You can still map them however you want, you just need to map them in the project you're working on how you wish to use them that time or create a template and save the F mappings you prefer ;)

I relly like how my x touch works (even if IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS I kinda got an incredible computer keyboard mapping and I'm using my x touch less). With the faderport 16 you'll get 16 faders with which you could control your plugins AND control pages (you could control 32 parameters of a specific plugin (maybe more?)).

      About the ff proq3 i don't remember if, since you asked "all parameters", you could just map rotaries 1,2 and 3 to Freq/res/gain and then select the points you wanna control and use the same 3 rotaries to control them
      I'll try asap and let you know but for the others, yeah. 8 parameters max

      I know that feel bro 😩
      I would really love to control everything I need at the same time but please, beware of looking at other daws if you're using s1. The problem is NOT completely a fault of the x touch. So much that in ableton i can do that (in ableton I can use two buttons on top to go to the next series of parameters. That's surely not the same but a bit better)
      The problem is how s1 implements mackie communications

    • @soundrocketstudios
      @soundrocketstudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not even the faderport 16 has the possibility to "go to the next bank of parameters". You can control 16 faders+16 buttons at a time, for plugin. And... That's it. So this thing about "more control" is an s1 problem unfortunately

      ....I'm so sorry, this is a small problem I found but haven't yet understood why it happens and.....I completely forgot to mention it in the video
      Here's the solution ;)
      To have super smooth faders (noticable only with fast sutomations, things I never do and that's why I forgot) you have to interpolate the data sent to the x touch. Here's the video with the app that does that. I HAVEN'T TRIED YET but you probably just install it, run it and that's it so...no big deal ;)

      Yeah, it's just to check the name of the channels again BUT, since actually there's two rows of text, I found a button that puts the mode you're in in the upper row and the name of the channels in the lower row (so that you don't have to switch that mode off again) which is super cool! • @soundrocketstudios

      I don't have any extender so I actually don't know.... Here's an explenation I found
      1) Click Add and choose Mackie Control for the x-Touch. Under Receive From and Send To choose X-Touch INT. Click OK.
      2) Click Add and choose Mackie Control Extender for the x-Touch extender. Under Receive From and Sent To choose X-Touch-ExtX-T.._INT. Click OK.
      3) Click Placement. Now drag the Extender into Group 1 first then drag the Control into Group 1. Click Close then OK. This will put channels 1-8 on the extender and 9-16 on the x-Touch.
      4) If a session is open, close it and open again. The track names and faders should come up on both devices.

    I use Waveform DAW and I'm trying to do something like this with my X Touch. Can X-Touch controls be mapped to keyboard shortcuts in any Mackie Protocol DAW like Waveform? If so, how would I get started? There is no documentation I can find on user defined keys/functions on the Behringer website. What am I missing?

    • @soundrocketstudios
      @soundrocketstudios  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I don't have any experience with Waveform and heared some problems with trying to connect a faderport 8 to it in mackie mode so sorry to say but I can't confirm
      Try going to the Control Surfaces tab, in settings, select the Mackie Control Universal, and set the input, and possibly output devices to your x-touch.
      Since the x touch itself doesn't need any installation, if Waveform works with mackie control protocol it should work with ease. If it doesn't (let me repeat as I said in the review video) it's not behringer's fault but a problem with the DAW
      Let me know if it works 👍

    • @paulcharles1704
      @paulcharles1704 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@soundrocketstudios Thanks so much for your reply. Tech support agrees that in Waveform the Xtouch is really only good for volume faders and pan pots, as well as the transport controls. The user assignable keys are not actually user assignable because Waveform doesn't have a control surface editor in its software. Interesting and annoying. So now if I want to use the Xtouch as it was designed, I'm in for a new DAW, and that's not going to happen anytime soon. But, in your opinion, what DAW would be most compatible with the Xtouch? Thanks again.

    • @soundrocketstudios
      @soundrocketstudios  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ABSOLUTE best if u plan to use the x touch for your near future are cubase and logic. You'll have a better point of view on how it generally works with the different major daws by watching my review but in any case, Cubase and logic, no doubts. It works 100% as intended with them. Anyway if I can give you a lil tip, I feel like it's ALWAYS better to search for a daw and then for a control surface and not the other way. I wanted to use logic myself with the x touch but decided to jump 100% on s1 since for me (for mixing) it's really what I was looking for. It's A LOT less trouble to change your control surface than your daw and the more time u spend with one, the more you learn from it
      Let me know if u decide anything and give s1 a try! 😉😉👋🏻
