Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that I absolutely loved your tutorial on Mastodon. I'm really passionate about computer science, and your video helped me discover this social network in depth. Thank you for guiding me step-by-step through choosing a server, creating an account, and interacting with content. Your content is truly amazing, and I'm looking forward to your next videos!
@@ianthehunter3532 It's too complex for the average user. Brands will never adapt to it, mainstream politicians will never use it, news outlets will never break news there first.
@@AndrewGeleff European Union uses it along with Twitter, and iirc there are at least a few companies using Mastodon. And Mastodon has basically the same features as Twitter, plus the connection with Fediverse, a network of different social media networks. Any feature that might be complex for an average user I see presented in this video is just importing list of people followed on Twitter, what isn't necessary, as You may just e.g. request them via Twitter or do nothing about it. Also, if it comes to the variety of options available when editing the profile, You don't have to decide what value each of them has. As for more-than-one feed pages, it's a convenient way to organise the whole feed.
First impressions: Needs dedicated dms, server system is baffling. Following a topic would make more sense. Rolling content feeds look impossible to work with for busy servers.
Hey Nelson, its me again. Lovely video, you just introduced me to something I never heard of and you actually explained so well, that now I am like a pro in it. Good job, keep it up!
I remember when one of the benefits of the Internet was to route around censorship. Now, it is popular to consider some content, "toxic," and make efforts to squelch it. I am not afraid of pixels on a screen, and I do not need someone else to protect me from ideas, even from ideas that I disagree with. With Mastodon, it appears that instead of one possible censor, there are thousands of possible censors. I want to use a social network where each individual chooses what they consume. I do not need or want Big Brother or Big Sister manipulating me and choosing what I can experience. (This comment is not to take away from Nelson's tutorial on Mastodon. He did a great job with this video.)
Nelson here: yes, the technology gives server mods the ability to block other servers for any reason, including being conservative. As for whether they will be allowed to block a conservative server, that depends on the laws in the server's host country: does the law force people listen to and associate with people they would prefer not to? If you want to see posts from certain groups of people, simply move to a server that does not block them; there are many servers which have policies against blocking other servers at all. If you want to force people to listen to you, Mastodon does not provide that functionality.
I love what you’re doing here but you may want your sideburns just a bit shorter. If that’s your trademark then keep it but just wanted to give some advice!❤
Nelson here: Interesting! Does this mean that other software tutorials on this channel also spell doom for the other software we are covering? If so, I suppose we've cursed Gmail, PowerPoint, iPhones, and ChatGPT, just to name a few. I hope they'll all be ok 😅
Partially agree… yes, Mastadon is a bit more complex to understand and get started. After that it has pretty much the same learning curve or something to get used to as all other social media. The onboarding part is where new users could give up… until the big players mess up again and there’s a will or ‘need’ for change.
So well explained, I needed such a video to understand Mastodone

another fail social media attempt. I wanted this to succeed but this guide shows why people refused to use it. Thanks for the video!

Thank you TH-cam friend! Helping our viewers become pros is exactly what Kevin hopes to do with this channel.
I started to mess with it. Using the iOS iPad app, I don’t need to choose a server. Weird.

Man, you should be a teacher, kids will just love you, your heart is in the game, and that will produce many rocket scientist, well done!
So I need to create a bunch of accounts to join different servers?!
Not at all, you can change servers any time you want
If a mastodon server hosts conservative users will other mastodon servers be allowed to block posts from the entire server?

Great stuff! Nice social guide.. It looks it's needing its own operating system.
Thank you for this! ❤️
Can someone please answer this. Are these other hosts just him using an AI face? Or are they actually other people. They look uncanny.
Ever heard of pod people?
Do we need to re-register on each server separately?
I was wondering this, too.
i miss u mr kevin
How do you accept friend requests?
why there are posts in the Live Feeds although i didn't subscribe to any server?

This looks like twitter
I don't know what server I signed up for. How do I find other servers I need?
I'm wondering too.
in short, it is a SNS template.

Mastodon is OK for those who are OK with being banned for their opinions
