I really appreciate that Michael is one of the people who “gets it.” Not everybody does, but he always notices the little things and why and where they should or shouldn’t be. It’s very satisfying to see and hear, whether it’s JP, Star Wars, G.I. Joe etc. Idk if it’s my OCD, or nerdiness or what, but I love it. Great review, great channel, as always.
Hammond has his cane, Nedry doesn't have the Barbisol can but he has the stick, and Muldoon has his SPAS... but its a real shame that Ian Malcom doesn't come with one big pile of dinosaur poop.
I think would be an accessory for Ellie (considering she was elbow deep into it). For Ian, it should be a cup of water (from the explaining chaos theory scene).
Hey Mike! What I ended up doing (yeah it cost more to do it) - was pick up a spare #18 Jeep on eBay and a spare Nedry set, then took the mirrors from the spare #12 and modified them to glue onto my original #18. Then the spare #18 I took the bottom chassis and swapped that into the #12 (moving the sticker for the license plate). So not counting the extra two I have (for parts), I now have #12 & #18 - both with mirrors, both with winches, and the tires on #12 now also are the better #18 tires (from my extra #18) with the Goodrich logos. I got extra tires with a Jada Brand Jeep that I painted and glued on the back of #18. I painted a few trim pieces black to match them better. AND... had to paint the extra red stripe that #12 should have (no clue why it was left off). So with extra Jeeps for parts and some paint, both my "prime" versions of #12 and #18 are better. But yeah, they should have been that way from the beginning... Oh, you need the Legacy Brachiosaurus! ;o)
Now that the T Rex escape pack with the Explorer is out, i hope you do a video on it too. All Mattel is missing now is Lex, which is what Kenner omitted. But Lex and Ellie saved Jurassic Park (for the day)
As a big legacy collector fan the one thing that annoyed myself the JP community about the Nedry set was THE RED STRIPE missing over the rear panel..Promos showed it but actual product it was nixed. So close but so far...but I do appreciate they are trying to represent the past films with the legacy collection.
I like that Nedry is actually built like Wayne Knight, and that, though he doesn’t come with a canonical accessory, he at least doesn’t come with a non-canonical one.
Great review! The sculpts on these figures look very nice. I’ve actually seen the Jeep set at Target a couple times and have been tempted to pick it up. It’s refreshing that Mattel actually knows how to distribute this line so they are readily available to collectors.
My 9 year old loves this line. I just got her the Nedry and Jeep. It's the best 3.75 inch out line right now. Great vehicles and beasts....and you can find it at retail for a decent price.
It was better than I remember seeing it again on Peacock. Also, the closure seeing Ellie and Alan reunite in the beginning of the film. Dominion movie will be great just to see the original three characters again.
It is nice to be able to find these two sets on the shelves. Unfortunately, they're about the only JP on the shelves in 3 3/4" scale. Every once in a while I see some of the smaller dinosaurs show up for a day or two, and then they're gone. They appear to be leaning into their new Amber Collection line, which is 6" scale, and not very appropriate for a dinosaur line.
Also note that Muldoon’s jeep(the one used to escape the T.rex) also had additional tool boxes at the backseat where Malcolm sits during the chase and no roll bar. It could have also been nifty if you could actually fit a Dilophosaurus to the passenger seat in the escape set jeep to re-enact Nedry’s mauling. But what can you do. 🤷
I do like the way Mattel has handled the Jurassic Park license on the whole so far. I primarily collect 6” scale figures so I have enjoyed the Amber Collection line so far and hope to see more. However, those video definitely makes me want to give this line a try. Thank you, Michael!🙏

No Isla Nubla set for the UK, and the Nedry set has sold out quite quickly. Because Smyths chose not to stock the whole range. Which is the problem when it's an exclusive to that store.
Had some of the 90s toys. Parts of them anyway. Not cause I went out and got them. My dog would swipe them from the neighbor's yard. ...kept the ankylosaur, it was his fave but kept scaring the hell out of me everytime I almost stepped on it.

You're right about licensed lines; If brands are charging too much, it explains why manufacturers are so precautious about product launch to the point that they leave the shelves empty (too much reliance on test marketing), and it would explain why I can still get "Military Death Ninja" at Dollar Tree with just slightly less articulation!
I wouldn't miss the hatchery with the John Hammond figure- the banner is a cool replacement and, you're right, the playable raptors far surpass the static hatchery. I also agree about the con exclusives- they are a nightmare between sites crashing and bots/scalpers snatching up the goodies :/ It was great chatting toys with you today, btw 😉
I think the biggest problem with the Jeep that is included with Denis Nedry is how the Jeep is packaged. It is in an open package that anyone can touch and pull things off. This is why I think the spare tire, the rear view mirrors, and the Barbisol can are missing.
I was at Universal Studios Orlando back in March of this year, they had the SDCC Hammond figure in a few gift shops, at least I *think* it was, since it came with the hatchling on the platform and his cane. if you want it, you *might* be able to get it from the Universal Studios website.
Read the book first! When saw the movie I was wow but depress lol. but when I went to the movies, there was only like 6 people total. I got to watch it on the last day. Still, great movie!!

Now that the Hammond set is warming shelves en mass at Toys R Us, it's too late.
This is nitpicking and I love it. If the vehicles are technically the same sculpt, couldn't you swap the bodies and put the correct numbered jeep (Nedry's) on the chassis with the working wench? That would create a solution if possible. Maybe have someone 3d print the other missing details? Also, this line kind of reminds me of the Indiana Jones line from a decade back. The sculpts on these legacy figures very much resemble those in terms of the quality of likeness (a little wonky). They look ok but they could be better. Finally, overall it is a really cool line in terms of being movie accurate (minus the glaring omissions). Not saying that the Kenner action feature stuff wasn't fun either, but these suit any collector and fans of the film far better.
The challenge with chassis swaps is that you have license plate "stickers" on the wheel frames that would have to be removed and swapped over also, which could be tricky. and then of course, the real wheel is glued onto the rear so you'd likely destroy a Nedry Jeep trying to remove it to place on your 18 Jeep.
Didn’t know this collection existed but it looks much better than a lot of other official licenses products than other company’s have brought out over the years

I found a donor jeep out of the package on eBay, $27 plus shipping - only missing the JP Logos on the doors (which I didn't need). I took the bottom chassis complete with the winch and the better tires, and also swapped out the dashboard since it was colored plastic and the new Nedry jeep it was clear. Even the piece in front of the windshield with the black painted grill could swap out. Nice and easy. Just had to peel the license plate sticker off Nedry's jeep to swap, and that was a piece of cake, just go slow.
I love the slow rise in volume to his voice as he grows more and more frustrated about the odd decisions on behalf of Mattel and their Legacy line. As a heavy Jurassic toy collector that has made the same complaints, I couldn’t help but laugh and mutter “fuckin’ a man”.
I just recently started looking into these figures, and I like how you point out these little inaccuracies, because I was just looking at one of the Robert Muldoon figures and I notice on one of his two interchangeable heads, the expression appears to be that of when he says "clever girl", just before his death. but the weapon of choice they gave him was not the gun from that scene, but instead the taser rifle... It's like they want the fans to see those little details and irritate the hell out of them lol.
I bought the Dennis Nedry set and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the Jeep. It is heavy and feels solid. The same day I picked up the Hasbro AWE Striker Retro which is a nice vehicle but it feels cheap compared to the Jurassic Park Jeep by Mattel.
I love these. Hope to find them on the second hand market loose. I wish they would have sold these single. I am not sure I want to buy the whole 4 pack to get 1 figure I want, but its tempting. Those raptors are substantial!

It's the missing tow cable on the jeep that is the biggest omission to me in the Dennis Nedry set! I'm not as bothered about the can but the cable was on the first jeep release yet has been taken away on the new jeep which is supposed to represent the one scene in the film the cable is used! Why on earth did they take it away!?
I also only like the original JP. Lost World has some good moments, but it's more of the same, and even Mr. Spielberg concedes it was not as good as the first. The rest have been rinse, repeat.
I liked the original book & lost respect when they changed the movie & then the book sequel- swapping characters deaths. But this was essentially the same plot as his earlier novel Westworld (perhaps a classic).
I mean, the features are there, just on the wrong vehicle. Personally I’ve never seen this line, but as a casual fan with zero Jurassic Park merch, I think it’s quite impressive. Of course you need to buy one toy that actually has the accessories for another. Isn’t that how they get you to buy more?

Try watching Netflix's Camp Jurassic it comes closer than any of the sequels to, retake the feel of the first film. in some episodes it outright hits the mark specially in Season 1, and all of this while being an animated kids show.
Nicely done. I wish mattel would do more individually carded human figures. I dont like re-buying dinos and other thinks to get one new figure. My kids would also like more then Owen to interact with their dinos. So many owns that I think it killed the human figure line with Mattel.
You can get Nedry with the cab of shaving cream from toys r us Canada. He doesn't come with the dinosaur though. Also I don't know how much they're going for in the US but 25 bucks cdn feels ridiculous.
On the Jeep just swap the under carriage's around. On the Barbasol can, just 3D print one and paint it or create a decal and apply it. Problems solved.
Really wish Hot Wheels Elite could make a highly detailed and movie accurate 1/18 scale Jurassic Park jeep and explorer. I'd easily pay over $100 each. Disappointing that no company has made top quality iterations of these cars in nearly 30 years so far.
The first Jurassic Park movie will never be surpassed by today's cash-grabbing studio. I do hope Mattel will make the other characters so that we can do some diorama.

For me Jurassic Park 3 is the best, I love what they did with the raptors made them very intelligent and highly dangerous.

Are the Jeeps constructed in such a way that one could disassemble them to mix and match parts to customize more accurate versions?

Nicely done. I wish mattel would do more individually carded human figures. I dont like re-buying dinos and other thinks to get one new figure. My kids would also like more then Owen to interact with their dinos. So many owns that I think it killed the human figure line with Mattel.

On the Jeep just swap the under carriage's around. On the Barbasol can, just 3D print one and paint it or create a decal and apply it. Problems solved.

Yes just unscrew the bottoms of the Jeep off and screw in to the other robe. The bottoms fit perfectly together

Really wish Hot Wheels Elite could make a highly detailed and movie accurate 1/18 scale Jurassic Park jeep and explorer. I'd easily pay over $100 each. Disappointing that no company has made top quality iterations of these cars in nearly 30 years so far.
The first Jurassic Park movie will never be surpassed by today's cash-grabbing studio. I do hope Mattel will make the other characters so that we can do some diorama.
