    You should put some shield tape over the battery connector preferably a thermal shield also

    To be fair, I bought the WD Black 2230 1tb for 95 dollars at Best Buy which is average for a 1 tb ssd of the Gen 4 variety. Of course that was a deal and the normal asking price is 130 dollars. Cool mod though, I am interested in maybe one day going bigger on the ssd and I would consider it.

    That ssd is literally above the cpu! I hope it doesn’t get too hot and burn out!

    On my 5 day old ROG ally the SD cards fine and the thing does not get hot. so think it was just a launch issue honestly it is warm to the touch when i take it out and test it. My sticks are fine as well.

    I understand the frustration behind being upset by the price point for large sized m.2 SSD's but I wouldn't challenge the design of the motherboard because if anything happens it's because it wasn't designed to handle the larger sized SSD for a reason. There is a dock where you can install an SSD as an extended storage device as well as buying a 1TB SD card. I hope nothing bad happens to your Ally.
    I rate this video 3 here's out of 5 ...here.

    1 Sd card reader were becoming loose due to poor sholdering so heat did its thing there but nothing else. 2. Joysticks are just fine.. hall effect ones give u lots of trouble so, not worth the fuss.

    Pretty sure you should be more concerned by the fact that the SSD is over the CPU heat sink rather then it being over the battery cable.

    I used a crucial t500 2tb. 30s degrees idle and 40-50s under load. 7000mb/s read speed. No heatsink needed.

    • @blakejeffrey

    that ssd goes right over the cpu/gpu heat sync if the heat were to transfer to the ssd that will cut performance

      I would say it's worth doing only if you add a heatsink to the ssd.

    You could have taken advantage of having opened the Rog ally to magnetically charge the triggers (cover removed) this increases the sensitivity to touch and allows you to work longer with the springs

    Ssd sizes are read as two separate numbers, not a single number, because they are two separate numbers. 2280 refers to 22mm wide x 80mm long, and 2230 refers to 22mmx30mm. Thus, they are read as “twenty-two eighty” and “twenty-two thirty”

  • @darcywalker1546
    @darcywalker1546 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just wondering if the 2280 will later down the road be a bad idea. Just wondering why wouldn’t ROG use the 2280 themselves in the first place. I’m hesitant doing this even though I would love too.

    • @mrsipp08
      @mrsipp08 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about that too but I think cost effective they may have already had a million of these types of ssds just like dodge did with the hellcat motors. They just stuck them in anything. Lol I could be wrong but it's a thought tho

    The reason why the sd card reader suck because the operating temperature is 0c to 70c(base on datasheet). Once you go over 75c. Your SD carder reader write and read speed decrease. 82c or above, you are destroying your SD card reader. In other words, you cant play games on performance mode or turbo on my test. There is no way to stop this. All three of my Asus ally failed. I think in 8 months. Im going to rma my devices. I hope they fix it because im going to talk to FTC about this.

  • @proventruths5413
    @proventruths5413 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    why the adapter they have the 2TB and higher on the smaller ssd that longer on without a heatsink may run it hotter ??

    • @blakejeffrey
      @blakejeffrey  ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason for adapter is to use 2280 SSD which is cheaper then smaller SSD of 2230. Plus 2230 caps usually at 2tb with this you can use 2280 with 4tb if you wish.
