Never a dull moment watching alex play...this is from the era when the game was worth watching..i cannot stand the modern game as there are no characters left anymore..this was the golden age of snooker and alex was a massive part of it...RIP alex and thank you.

I was 10 years old and watch Alex and jimmy in an exhibition in Paignton in the 80s with my dad. Alex came out with his que aloft. His was welcombed like a rock star my hero. Incredible player. Made snooker what it was. I got a Alex higgins signed que for my 11th birthday. Still use it today. 47 years old.

Alex Hurricane Higgins brought snooker to the masses.
No player has ever had a greater impact on the sport as what he did.
Alex did for snooker what Pele, George Best and Diego Maradona did for football.
    He was a true genius.
    May he RIP 🙏

Today the commentators can predict what the player will do next. They couldn't do that when Higgins was at the table he was totally unpredictable. That and his skill and speed was what made him the most exciting player in history.

The only player who could channel the energy of the crowd, the tv audience, and the table through his cue all at the same time.

The shots he produced here are top quality today. But remember Alex was producing the sort of Snooker we've come to expect at a time when 100 breaks were rare. 147's were a mathematical fantasy. The game was played at a snails pace. Acquiring points from the games name sake (Snooker(s) was the order of the day. When Alex played he took the world by storm. The neverending gentleman's game was over and people all over the country had a reason to stay awake and watch.

The only player that played shots that great that he still had to play on while the audience were still laughing and talking out loud after a pot. And people forgett this was alex livelyhood... how he earnend his money, and he didnt have a manager or any one behind him. People dont know that either, especialy todays kids. This guy was really special. He wasnt born to win lots of trophys he was born to ENTERTAIN. Even though he did win alot and the 3 majors wich so many havent won! He had the skill to be the greatest thats plain to see and win the world title at least 7 times, thats the difference and why he was so good. He took risks that others wouldnt dream off... And some paid off and some didnt. Pure genius. Its funny how some of my favourite alex higgins pots are never on any of these uploads. Theres better pots than these believe it or not. And many that watched alex at this time will notice the same surely. One pot that sticks to mind was in 1982 or 83 and against mountjoy or steve davis and the red ball was at about 8 and a half foot from the bottom left side pocket and well tucked against the cushion and the cue ball was about 2 feet furthur up from the red making it about 10 and a half feet up the table...or a foot and a half from baulk, and it was about 3 feet from the cushion as in on the middle of the table, it was a safety shot that had been played or so he thought. Then alex just ran the red ball all the way down the cushion past the middle pocket wich isnt easy btw and into the bottom left pocket? Ted lowe said out loud and thats a beautiful shot there by alex. I was stunnend and wondering how he managed to do it. Its a pot thats not shown alot. And i think it was in the mercantile classic? I may be wrong, or the world title in 82 against doug keeps coming to mind or steve davis as well in the uk title. I will have to find it and save it. I just thought i would see it again loads of times as its that good a pot.
