    Really good video and I'm both glad it's happened and that you got the opportunity to be part of it and make content as a result - evidently, someone at the railway or at the council knows what an asset you are to the community and to discussion of infrastructure in the North East.

      Pity Blyth is poorly designed and laid out as to get to the train station in Blyth requires getting to bebside and newsham on the far ends of Blyth so it's a bit inconvenient. Same with Seaton Delavals station too. It's a bit out of the way.

      @@Dents6679 I think Washington should have at the very least a Metro service but given the amount of false dawns and talking shops over the last 3 decades I’m pretty sure that 3 decades hence we’ll still be waiting. Add the fact that this government has withdrawn all monies for rail reinvestment projects it’s looking bleak.

    Cracking video, and I'm campaigning for the Northumberland Coast Loop which would use the Northumberland Line as far as Bedlington, then cut back onto the ECML via Hepscott, then stop at/pass through Pegswood and form a new link northward. Can't wait to ride this line when I get a chance!

  • @rachelcarre9468
    @rachelcarre9468 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +12

    Brilliant production. Well done! It’s a remarkably simple railway to deliver and the benefits should be quickly realised, maybe with an increase in service frequency especially in the evenings. I hope that the success will spur the authorities to reinstate a rail connection (either by heavy rail or the Metro) back to Washington, another area that would benefit from the economic benefits rail delivers.

    • @winco68
      @winco68 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@rachelcarre9468 I agree that Washington is long overdue for a rail connection of some description being one of the largest towns in the country without access to rail.
      Unfortunately the current government has cancelled the restoration of rail project initiated by the previous government and diverted the money elsewhere.
      There has been talk of restoring the Leamside Line which passes through Washington since the late ‘90s and talk is all that’s happened. The route has become so badly degraded over the last three decades that reinstatement costs would be astronomical as the trackbed is close to collapse in some places.
      I think Washington’s best hope is to be part of a Metro expansion by creating a loop from Pelaw to South Hylton via Washington and Penshaw. It would utilise trackbeds of both the Leamside and Sunderland to Durham routes both of which are in decent shape on those sections and free of development. I don’t think it would be a a huge project given that it’s a reinstatement rather than a new build and much infrastructure already exists. A big question is how it will be funded and how can the government be convinced to commit to it. Without government funding it won’t happen so I’m not holding my breath.

    Lucky for you going on the preview train. Great its been called The Northumberland Line, just in case any residents of Newcastle and Ashington thought they were in Cornwall. I'm coming up from London on 15th December on the 08.48 Lumo train from King's Cross to go on the actual opening day and staying two nights in Newcastle to go to Ashington also on Monday (and get a few Tyne & Wear Metro rides in too) before going home on Tuesday on the 14.26 LNER train to King's Cross. I did travel along most of the Northumberland Line with UK Railtours on 7th April 2018 but not to Ashington, it turned off and went down the freight branch to North Blyth instead. I propose a new branding for the heavy rail metro lines: Suburban, which would be equivalent to the S-Bahn. Branding would be replacing Metro’s “M” to a “S” and background from yellow to green. The distinctive branding and further system and ticketing integration with the Metro (Nexus) would make it much easier to use and any expansion of the Tyne and Wear rail network much easier by converting some heavy rail into “Suburban” lines.

    • @edificity
      @edificity  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'd love to see this kind of thing - Nexus already has 'R' rail branding to go with 'M' for Metro, 'B' for buses and 'F' for ferry but it can't use it anywhere because the rail lines are operated by other companies

    • @snowkoala2384
      @snowkoala2384 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ I don’t think there is a necessity for “R” designation, London Underground just uses the National Rail logo and it’s actually more straightforward. Although Northumberland Line is currently operated by Northern Rail I still think it or any rail lines can easily be rebranded and integrated with the Metro system with more consistent branding and ticketing, and still be franchised to Northern Rail in terms of operation. Elizabeth Line or even the Overground are good examples.

When they lost and Restoring Your Railways was scrapped by the new government, the Northumberland Line and one other project (i can't remember which one) were too far gone in the construction process so would see completion.

    Again the investment will be wasted by only running 2 car units. Trains are chaotic between Newcastle and Middlesbrough at a weekend with trains not able to pick up at the recently opened stations. The same will happen here.
    God knows what will happen on match days.

      if only we didn't have to lease our trains on a per car pricing model from 5 investment banks in a trench coat

    And so its not a new line then just one that’s been brought back into passenger use 😂

    Most of the stations arnt finished, it's caused mayhem in blyth with the traffic, and most of the people in blyth live too far away from stations to use them

    Government and council funded is misleading. It’s tax payer funded, without which neither has any funds (other than printing it (quantitive easing)
    The Blyth/Newsham stations are at least a 20 minute walk from Blyth I’m told. Hardly convenient for most Blyth residents.

      Also the ‘convenient’ tap in and out cards, does that mean you cannot pay cash for the journeys?
