This is an edited version. You don't see me knocking down a flag as I put the wreath on Sir Henry !

We missed the highlight! This was copied from TV in New Zealand, they do not even show the Proms anymore.

@@ronsurgenor745 Ah - interesting. Many thanks. That also goes some way to explain the soft pics :-( Great to have them at all ! I've lost my copy . Richard Baker said ' Something appears to have slipped' as I knock the left inner flag down. The pole looked as if it would leaver the bust on to the timps - so I took time making it safe ! I complained to the BBC later and they never rigged the flags like that again - Phew !

I used to watch them during the 80s . And the regular front row of people was there year after year true dedication . Watch a current LNOTP gone is the traditional in has come commercialisation of Classical Music . It's become cringeworthy to watch like being at a Party and the hosts are trying to hard to impress .

The conductor was John Pritchard. He was conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He wasn't very well (as you can see he was conducting seated for most of the concert), and died just three months later. Britannia was Sarah Walker. The presenter was the much loved Richard Baker. I don't think he looks a bit like Roger Moore, but we always thought him very lucky for getting paid to go to concerts.
The programme is the traditional one in a slightly different order. I like the way it is much more staid and stately than some of the modern ones, especially Pomp & Circumstance number 1 and Rule Britannia.
Like so many things nowadays, the Last Night has become a parody of itself, so it was very nice to see this recording, before this happened, as late as 1989 too. I think the white suits are wonderful.

@@alansutton7046 Ain't that the truth . I miss the traditional ending of the Proms . Now it's something commercialised and cringey

@@colintraveller The BBC was over populating the hall with flags. I managed to get them reduced for 1990 - having displaced on on air in 1989. They were actually dangerously heavy poles held up by just one zip tie.
