Great vid James.. Glad it wasn’t titled ‘Me and Deano floating down the River Kennet ‘😄…Really interesting.. I’m going to go have a look..👍 ..Deano’s great …
The site is looking much nicer at the moment as all the cloutie pollution has been removed. I removed one tightly tied nylon ribbon myself from a young tree on the path up to West Kennet long barrow recently and because it was synthetic, and therefore wasn't biodegradable, it was digging into the bark quite a way as the tree grew around it. The idea behind clouties is that as it decomposes your illness you put it there for is supposed to also disappear, not to strangle trees!
I just love it there, it feels special but never been when in full flow, seen it dried up in parts, seen it in summer full of watercress, over due a visit, enjoyed this
This was a great tour, and very amusing, too! 😅 Personally, I think the spring could have been used in ancient times. Although we often ascribe mystical properties to water sources, the fact is that ancient people needed access to clean water just as we do. Even if they did see it as mystical, it no doubt had a practical purpose as well. Many thanks for the video. 👍
Not sure it was moss, usually rocks in the water are slippery with algae. Going to the Springs, by the not neck breaking path is always the best course of action.
Thank you James, nice to see Deano back on board (though I sense an ulterior motive judging by his jeans 😉). A lot of water about at the moment, where we are on the Kennet they have only just opened the main road into the village after the flooding, maybe Swallowhead raging torrent would suit at the moment. Another great video, stay safe and looking forward to the next one 😊
Thank you a true fun experience finding history-The Kennet is strong and quite dangerous at the present time -Pleased now I have been there and seen the area-Thank you for watching
Made me chuckle, the way you nominated Deano to go across the stream first 😊 Very enjoyable video 👍
Glad you enjoyed it-I fell over and got soaked and cut my leg-Never again-Hence Deano first 😢
I went there in early summer 2022 and the springs were as active as ever - beautiful place, I spent a lot of time alone there at the time.
I enjoyed this and was my first visit to these -I agree Hedley a great area -Thank you for watching
