Great video 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸👏👏👏👍
Thank you very much!
I'm thinking about seeing hiw this bag looks mounted on a backpack frame.
I obtained a new, unissued bag last year. It serves well as haversack for a day-hike and easily carries a 10x10 ft tarp, paracord, stakes, Sawyer Mini, BCB Firedragon stove, Coffee, GI Issue aviators canteen/flask, SRO Stainless Canteen Flask/Cup, 6" Israeli bandage & 4x4's, ..., Flashlights, folding saw. Currently I'm using it as a dedicated "first aid" kit. It also attaches conveniently to the upper part of the GI "H" harness as an extra location for a buttpack (the 2 D-rings for the shoulder strap). Larger size molle (Brit magazine) side pouches are available in the same camo but very £ ($). I've also been able to attach a "woobie" (poncho liner) in its compression sack) to the top of the flap with paracord. It's a versatile piece of kit.
Awesome load out!
It's great to hear that because not only does it give people load out ideas, but also an idea of the capacity
Thank you
I hope you enjoy the video & to my British friends, let me and everyone know what you think of this bag. Thank you!
I put a set of plce zips on mine so I have that in the middle of two rocket pouches on a molle belt, works great.
@@OldNavajoTrickswhy where on it have you put PLCE zips on? I just use mine as a butt back on a molle belt with a few Opspey pouches for 58 pattern water bottles on board
@@davidleonard1813 I must have deleted my vids relating to it sorry.
If you lay the gsr down and put a rocket each side you'll see where to stitch the zippers onto the gsr.
Once that's done you molle the gsr to your belt and then...
You can either use 19mm util straps and buckle/clips to secure the rockets to the molle.
Alternatively stitch some molle straps or a molle panel (offcut) to the rocket and secure as normal (Normal molle ofc.)
Lastly simply zip the three together using the sidezips.
Bungee/strap around the fronts if you wish to pull everything in and reduce wobble on the move.
As much as I like sewing I cba putting molle straps or panels on my rockets, I have mesh panels on the back of most of them anyway, and spare util straps are often handy.
I'll see if I can't put a quick vid out for you marra 🤘
@@OldNavajoTricks thanks. I forget who maybe Dragon supplies make btp rocket pouches with molle on the rear I believe. I got a IRR shortback a Longback maybe 6 or 8 rocket pouches in green. I like the system. If I'm hiking camping over a few days I sometimes use the rear tabs on a rocket to thread it to the rear of my harness. Versatile pouches and if I can molle belt them too all the better. I can pretty much retire the Bergen then I think
@@OldNavajoTricks subbed and I'll check in on that over next few days. I had that thought a few yrs ago and asked Micktightwad about it and he said it couldn't be done. So as I have so many if I can put them on molle it'll be great. I'm very interested lol
In uk 🇬🇧 we actually call it a respirator it’s known as GSR (general service respirator) that’s the latest pouch for the GSR we also have a couple of other respirators for more specific type operations such as special forces and aircraft versions, try and find the pouch for the last variant the S10 I think you would like it
I will thanks for the tip and excellent information. This is why I love hearing from people here in the comments
The desert variant has an extra pocket below that a basha could squeeze into nicely but they're old mounts not molle.
Still might get me two 😂
I switched out the side pouches for waterborne pouches & attached an admin pouch to the lid. The original side pouches are now on the back & have 'soft kit' gloves & hat etc stuffed in them.
A great haversack/daysack with massive carrying capacity.
Excellent! You've got to love it when versatility and ingenuity come together
Thank you!
Hello from Northwest Ohio. Love the intro. I recently replaced my butt pack on my LBE with one of these bags.
Awesome. I have been reluctant in building and LBE, because I would need two belts, but this bag has me thinking about building an LBE.
Thank you for watching
I agree. I did the same. This is a great butt pack on LBE. I have two of these. They also make a great backpack for a smaller person/child. Just feed the shoulder strap through the loop that the leg strap goes through and connect to the D rings.
I use my older one (in swanky DPM) as a tree stand maintenance kit. Tree hooks, Bow hangers, duct tape, para cord, a couple of SPAM singles, nalgene & such. I have another I'm building into a stove/ mess / brew-up kit. Many uses!!
Nice!
I bought a bunch of these when they were cheap, plus Swiss canteens with cup. The Swiss canteens fit perfectly in the side pouches.
That is awesome and good information.
You see... thus is why you have to check the comments, for sweet tid bits of information like this
Turn it into a communication bag example CB shortwave just an idea. Looks like it would be perfect.
I bet an old Field Phone would fit in it perfectly. Or a Tactical drone bag?
Great video and channel. I got one of these and love it. Awesome bag!
It is, I'm working on setting it up on a backpack frame.
Maybe that will be in a future video?
Thank you
much better than the bag i had to carry mine in
Mine too, I mean it worked, but not as cool.
That intro deserves a follow and like. Good stuff!
I turned it into a short and holy moley!!! The internet hated it!. I ended up pulling the short.
I am glad there are a few good people like you with good taste who appreciate it.
Thank you!
I bought one of these about 18 months ago, for £10/$12, in pristine condition. I use it as a bushcraft haversack. It takes a Pathfinder cup and bottle set, a Wildo folding cup, long handle spoon, Mora Companion knife, a folding saw, a poncho and a small fire kit, with just enough room left over for a day's worth of food. It's a bit uncomfortable to carry after a while as the strap is relatively thin, but amazing value. I actually prefer the Polish bread bag, but that's only a couple of dollars cheaper and doesn't come with any belt. I paired it with a Swedish army shoulder strap and it works well for me.
Everyone, take note, the strap is a little narrow and here we have an excellent suggestion on a great replacement strap.
This is why people need to check the comments!
Great load out as well!
Thank you
Hey young pup. I think we still called it a gas mask in the 70's. Keep up the good work, Indy. That was hilarious.
Thanks for serving.
That is awesome. I wonder when they got away from calling it a gas mask.
Sometime between our times I guess.
I'm very glad you enjoyed the video, thank you very much
John, When I was serving, before this bag was brought in! Our S10 “Respirator” was kept in our ‘gas mask’ bag😂 and like you we got a real rollicking if we called the respirator a gas mask!! Mind you I left the service in 1990 so things may have moved on since then😂 All the very best from across the pond 👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
Greetings from the States! I can still see my Drill Sergeants faces and hear their voices!
Have a great day and thank you!
He might appreciate a neat cook set, cool gift.
You know, I think you are right.
Re watching this, I really came across as a jerk in that part.
I think I will do that.
Thanks
Cool find. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
No problem, thanks for watching.
Sorry for the late reply. I work a lot of double shifts.
Have a great day!
It looks like a very versatile piece of kit. The only drawback I see, is that I hate Velcro.
Exactly!
As another commenter pointed out, if used for it's intended purpose, noise is the last of your concern. True story!
@@OliveDrabAlliance Noise is not the only reason I hate Velcro. It collects dirt and debris like it was made to do so. When it is full of such things it becomes ineffective. It also is usually the first place on kit to become frayed, and suffer from wear.
@@MichaelJohnson-tw7dq right on!
I 100% agree.
Good Evening John ! Good lookin bag. Lots of uses. I just paused the VID, got 1 comin from EBAY. Thanks for showin this. TAKE CARE..
Awesome, enjoy!. I'm looking forward to taking this on the trail soon. You won't he disappointed by the quality of material. It is THICK!
Thank you for watching!
@@OliveDrabAlliance Yeah, it looks well made. Have a great night & Sunday. TAKE CARE..
I put a Swiss canteen & cup in the 1 pocket on the side, couldn't fit any better. TAKE CARE..
Thanks for taking the time to break down that Carrier. Ive been eyeing one for some time now and you showed exactly what I had questions about especially the removal of those side pouches. 👍👍
Thank you. I'm glad to be helpful.
I appreciate you watching and commenting & all that good stuff.
Thanks!
@@OliveDrabAlliance I'm going to Subscribe to your Channel so I don't miss this kinda stuff plus I will look at what I've missed.
Nice design from the Brits. I hate Velcro, too. I am not an astronaut. That being said, if you are having to deploy the gas mask, excuse me, chemical weapons mask, noise discipline is the least of your worries. Now if you happen upon a couple of nature lovers out on the trail doing what comes naturally and you want to break out a can of Vienna sausages while enjoying the show, then yeah, the Velcro could hamper your good time.
You bring up an excellent point about the noise discipline. I was just replying to another comment where I mentioned your wise insight.
The second point you make.... I don't know about all that hahaha.... I have a funny story though. A couple weeks ago, my beautiful wife and I were walking around a nearby wildlife area and let's just say, we had a lot of fun. I woke up the next day in a bit of a panic, because that wildlife area is a popular hunting ground. People have trailcams EVERYWHERE out there.
@@OliveDrabAlliance …….people throughout northeast Illinois rush to check their trail cams.
@@MichaelJohnson-tw7dq oh snap..... we are northwest, but I appreciate the sentiment.
No shame in my game, so it's all good!
Nice intro john the chemical bag is cool
Awesome! I'm glad you liked it, I was hoping people would get it.
I'm wondering how many people have watched this video, but have never seen Raiders of the Lost Ark and we're wondering "what the heck is wrong with thus guy"?
Hahaha
Thank you
Just bought three. Hard to shop online when you can't really see the product. Your review helped a lot. Thanks
Awesome. I tried to show everything I could.
Thank you
Just like the old GI Bumbag these fast carry quite a load, but never quite enough. Once full they bump about too much. Backpacks just give more utility and are more comfortable to carry. However, I have quite a few respirator bags, for heavy tools and rope lines, to chuck in the truck or storage bins you find on vehicles or boats. The one shown is particularly robust and pretty useful.
I can definitely see that being the case. You've got to find valance between the gear you carry and how it carries. You just can't beat a good backpack, but sometimes you've got to be more nimble and some gear you never want to be far from, so finding the right balance is key.
Oh, I got one of those. They are nice. Got it from the sportsman guide. Along with a used syringe. And a crap load of sand in the side pouches. I got a couple of the older ones, too.
Oh no!!!!!!
You got the bonus pack!
Hahaha
Sorry, not funny
I found a great little bag at Goodwill for $4.00.
I thought to use it to carry my coffee and some water when I went to the creek.
I showed it to my wife and she took it for her purse.😢
Oh noooooo!!!!!!!!
Hahahaa
I can tell you... you aren't alone. I know this has happened to me, and I bet this has happened to a LOT of other people too.
The haversack is great if it is big. The respirator is kept on a plastic inner so it is easy to get on but makes it difficult to pack. Use one as a first aid pack with cadets. Wouldn't use one myself too many bad memories of time in the respirator testing facility. Not called gas chamber of obvious reasons.
I'm pretty sure we called it a gas chamber here in the mid 90s, but I could very well be wrong. I know we had a "live agent chamber", that is something different altogether though.
Thanks for sharing
classic intro! INDY!!!!
I wish I had a better camera, but yeah.... thank you!
About 3 yrs ago I Frankenstein attached this bag to a 1970’s belt and padded shoulder straps. With a small bag for water, and another for shotgun shells, it worked great.
The problems I had was the shoulder straps were too padded to shoulder an antique SxS, and the bag itself was so over designed that the kit weighed a ton.
So I went with a German surplus set up. Much thinner and lighter. However, this bag will last FOREVER.
Messaged acknowledged (10-4)
I will check out the German pack..Thanks for the information and I love the presentation!
Thank you
I replaced one of the side pouches with british army water bottle pouch
@@davewest5776 To be honest, I’ve been using this bag with a couple extra pouches for 3 years of hunting/camping trips and I never even knew they came off! 😀
@@davewest5776 Awesome!. We have to get as many of these bags into the U.S. as possible.
John time to modify the bag. Lose the velcro. Add a strap with clips OR use the snaps for closure or modify a strap with snaps. For everyday use velcro is okay but it's like nails on a chalk board to me.
Funny you mention modification. Right now I have a modification in the works for a different bag. Stay tuned.
Thanks for watching
Ha! My pet peeve is everyone calling a Watch Cap a "Beanie", beanies don't fold up!
I've seen that bag for a while and it looks like lots of room but too much like modern Multi-Cam for me, I'm in the market for a Finnish "gas" mask bag or their marking equipment bag for a more old school canvas look. I'll check out more videos from your channel.
PS: Canada had the worst junk with their 82 Pattern webbing, single stitch pouches that would fall apart just looking at it, especially the canteen pouch.
I have heard that about Canadian gear. I haven't experienced it personally. I always thought Canada and U.S. used the same stuff, but I've heard to Canadian stuff has quality issues.
Thanks for watching and have a great day
I really enjoy all your videos. I use that bag with the Swedish mess kit with everything inside it and remove the outside pouch and put the BCB pouch and the mk2 canteen with the trangia stove. The small pouch I keep the trangia alcohol carrier and the the big inside I carry cooking kits and food and coffee and more.. the zipper is used to open to make inside open to remove the inside.. again I do really enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing.
I didn't know you could remove the inside.
Very interesting!
Thank you
I got one a few weeks ago, un-issued as well. Cost me £12 here in the UK. Very versatile bag.
Good deal! My only complaint so far is the strap is a little narrow, but that is an easy fix.
Thank you and greetings from the U.S.
I use mine as a butt pack. As well at times i molle it onto a Karrimor Centurio 45 pack, on the back. Now your pack will sit up on its base without falling over while you are getting kit out.
Excellent. I have a couple old pack frames that I would like to do something with and this will definitely be a part of it.
Thank you
Cool vid.
Just subbed.👍
Welcome to the Alliance!
@@OliveDrabAlliance
Thanks 👍👍
Looks like a neat bag, I'd have to modify it to delete the velcro. Looks like a great setup for a future load out video for that bag. Cheers!
I've been thinking about doing a video on noise light and litter discipline.
This bag would definitely be used for the velcro noise. But like somebody said here in the comments, in an NBC attack, the last thing you're worried about is a little noise.
Thank you!
@OliveDrabAlliance Learned a new acronym today, thank you. And you are right, your concerns would put noise at bottom of the list. Or low enough it wouldn't even be on ones radar. That is definitely a neat bag just in the way it was designed to be so expandable/collapsible with seemingly great ease. I agree the video idea you mentioned would be a great topic to cover. Appreciate all your efforts brother. I know a little bit about setting up a shot and just filming a seemingly simple task can become quite involved. Looking like I'll get some dirt time here real soon so you'll have more content from me to watch. Contemplating doing a loadout video on my camping backpack/BOB setup. Have an awesome week man.
@pipingandcamping thank you. I watch your stuff and love it. Keep getting the word out!
Yeah nice bag with multiple options. Initially I saw a day pack. 👍
I did too, but it has me wanting to put together an LBE rig.
Maybe later thus year?
Nice find …didn’t take you for a complainer but I see you bring along your own Wine …Have fun stay safe.
Hahaha.
It's almost 1030am here, is it too early to start wine-ing?
(Probably)
Thank you!
When and where did you serve in the military? I wonder if we may have crossed paths somewhere.
Illinois Army National Guard, mid to late 90s.
You never know, it is possible we have crossed paths.
GSR haversack, love these things to pieces, got one of these weaved onto my webbing belt on the rear to act as a buttpack, when you can get these cheap they’re magic pieces of kit
It has made me consider putting a belt/suspender kit together. I think this bags uses are only limited by ones imagination.
Thanks for watching & take care!
The Brits do have some nifty kit (and clothes), might need to get my hands on one of those. A surplus store in my area has a decent selection of modern british gear, recently got an MTP smock for 40 € there, good investment.
I love America and I am all about Made on the USA. I work within visual distance of the Rock Island Arsenal, but sometimes.... just sometimes our NATO allies and even our enemies come up with a great piece of gear that deserves our attention ad preppers and survivalist.

Commenting for the algorithm
Much appreciated.
The comment & the sentiment.
Thank you
I brought one a couple years ago, I found it very easy to overload it with "stuff", that I had to keep swapping it from shoulder to shoulder. As you can imagine, this became very tiresome after several hours. The bag itself is great, just be aware of what/how much you are putting in it 😊
I think I would try to put very light items in here, definitely not canteens of water and such for long walks.
Excellent point, thank you!
Yeah, this thing looks essentially like a miniature backpack, so overloading it seems quite tempting. Maybe you can rig something up to actually carry it like a backpack?
@@Nagtloper431 I would use a military surplus ruck sack frame or even a bou scout pack frame.
I'm ex-British Territorial Army (forerunner to the Army Reserves). It's called a "Respirator haversack". Anyone calling it a "gas mask" would normally find themselves doing strenuous PT for HOURS 🤣 As to the velcro: If you're on the receiving end of CBW then who the hell cares if it makes some noise? ;)
Yeah, my drill Sergeants would have taken me onto "The Happy Room" for calling it a gas mask
.. (happy to get out of the happy room). And you, along with others bring up an excellent point, in an NBC attack the velcro noise would be the least of your concerns. Very very true. I only bring it up for people looking to repurpise this piece of kit.
Thank you and I appreciate you & what you say more than you'll ever know
I wish the whole world was done in Olive Drab, camo ain't fooling anybody. anyway. Thank you for the video! OD Green or bust
