Maronite Foundation - Academy 2014- LBC documentary in honor of the Late Antoine Choueiri

  • The Maronite Academy second annual session is in honor of the late Antoine Choueiri, a founding member of the Maronite Foundation.
    Antoine Choueiri (August 3, 1939 - March 9, 2010) was a Lebanese media executive. He was the founder of Choueiri Group, the Middle East’s largest media broker. He was born in Beirut in 1939 to a Maronite Christian family from Bcharre and married his wife Rose Salameh in 1961 which gave birth to two children. He died on March 9th 2010 of health complications, he is buried in his ancestral home of Bcharre in his honor one of Bcharre's main streets will be named "Antoine Choueiri" in homage to him and his achievements.
    60 young Lebanese-descent Christians from 17 different countries around the world visited Lebanon in August 2014 to participate in the Maronite Academy, an endeavor undertaken by the Maronite Foundation and aiming to bring the Lebanese diaspora’s youth closer to their roots and their country of origin. After going through a series of comprehensive online courses tackling the history of Lebanon and the Maronites, the applicants had to undergo a written Essay assessing their cumulative knowledge.
    The successful candidates were chosen to partake in the Academy’s class of 2014; they came from Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, South Africa, Spain, UK, Uruguay, and the USA.
    The participants’ stay in Lebanon spanned over two weeks during which they attended daily lectures held at the USEK University by prominent panelists and visited various historical sites and landmarks such as Tannourine, Jezzine, Byblos, Qadicha valley, Bcharre, St. Charbel, Deir el Kamar, and Beiteddine to name a few.
