Sold my bike a few days ago and i am watching mtb videos to keep me sane, just discovered your channel and these are some quality videos, keep em coming man !
That's tough, thanks man.
Same situation, will receive my bike in 5 days
I like how you got some random boxers to wipe with 😂😂
The skid marks provide extra lubrication.
@@tyrannosaurust-rex2067 whut
It s soft material!! Lol
@@deedeecruz5392 she told me that once😔 she was lying
Whatever work to clean something dirty😂
I love the use of the boxers as a rag
When you got the zip tie in the seal, if you bend it down & pull gently it makes a little gap to drip the suspension fluid into, works better if you pop the spring tensioners off first, helps keep those foam wipers lubed.
Whilst a lower leg service is better little hacks can help stretch out the the time in between doing a full lower leg service or tide you over in a pinch.
Another thing some tie clips can be a bit sharp or have jaggy bits make sure the ones you do this with dont & smear a little suspension lube on them before inserting in the seal & alls good
Good stuff, I have also noticed improvement by flipping bike upside down once in a while for a little while to soak the sponges in oil.
Andy Brannon just started doing this...huge difference!
How long is enough,
10 minutes is plenty as you’re getting ready to ride
@@andymtb3212 thank you bro
Will you get air in the brake lines though?
I can't believe this worked, my new suntour auron rc2 felt so weird, it had so much stiction, blamed it on the seals or even thought I had defective bushings, did this and it feels awesome now! Hope it lasts
Thanks so much this honestly helped me so much my forks felt very sticky and weren’t so clean and after I watched this video and did what you did my forks feel AMAZING much love man and I hit that subscribe button 👊
Deron Faurie big thanks man, go shred!
Children Of The Loam it’s a pleasure bro and will do 🔥
I never knew about letting the air out of the seals. It feels like I just serviced them now. Thanks!
Happy to help!
GT85 sounds like GTA5
Lucky you had that underware do you always do your video half naked lol cheers for the fork hack dude keep up the riding my friend 🤘
its a good idea to install a fork boot if you want to minimalize maintenance.
Not in the case of a mtb fork, they can actually trap contaminants and do more harm than good. Also, they are not the best looking things out there.
@@ChildrenOfTheLoam but what if its a very well sealed one? Like with zip ties?
@@acr_master5594 I would still avoid them
killer bike!
V.I.K thanks a lot!
So if you have Fox factory forks each lower had a bleed button. Guessing this does the same thing.
thank you. helped me alot
Great videos mate! Easy to understand instructions and top results.. nice bike too! Gday from Australia ✌️
Great video really helpful and excellent quality for a TH-camr of your size.
she: how often do you change your boxers?
he: every time i wiped my stanchion.
Thank you! Gotta try this.
Can I do the zip tie trick with any fork?
leme guess, your brother's boxers 😆
I take 2 tooth picks and put them in between the seal and then put sram butter in the seal working my way all around. Then take the air out and let it slide down. Buttery smooth after that.
Don't it might break into the suspension
Ty for the info
That color combo is my dream
Shalev Balasiano thanks, mine too
Great video, thanks.
Nice ride
You rock, great help, subbed and shared, many thanks
Thanks, we love to hear it!
What if mine super stiff regardless of the settings?
Are you using your boxers!!!🤣🤣...good One.😄
You know it🤣🤘
Which bike is this , I mean name of the bike
I had a can of Greaseless Lubricant that I would lightly spray on my stantions after wiping them clean. It would make a night and day difference to the suspension performance, and it dried itself so I didn't have to wipe it off afterwards. I haven't found a can of the same stuff since, and I don't know what was really in it but I know it worked.
Hello! I think im used too much. My fork get, whimpering sound (with oil). wait to dry? or any idea?
Thanks for the good info
cool bike, what is it?
only spray gt85 on your rotors if you want to go fast 😂😂
What is the reason for relieving pressure from lowers?
It allows small bump sensitivity to be the best it can be.
Can you do it to the back suspension
You actually can't. Rear shocks operate by slightly different rules
I am wondering what if you do what ever you demonstrated but having the fork a bit compressed.
Isn't it this way going to generate a negative chamber effect?
So wouldn't it increase even more the small bump sensitivity?
That is correct, just be careful as the fork wasn't designed to work that way but it will most likely not cause any issues.
great thinking lol, might try that
Can you use any type of silicon spray this is my man issue I’m worrying about some one please help.
No, Not all Silicone sprays are the same -
It has to be industrial grade.
Some have water/wax mixed in,, and if it came out foamy - there's your proof.
i have a bleed valve on my fox fork
That was very helpful for many people but you should have pushed the fork like 2 or 3 times to be sure the lubricant is soaked in the seals but anyway you did a GREAT VIDEO and i am hiting that like and subscribe button !!!!
Great video 100% with you on that type of maintenance! The 5 P's...
Proper preparation prevents poor performance 👍
They actually sell a tool for burping the lowers and prying the seal away for Motocross and dirt bikes it's only about 10 bucks but your way works fine too. My personal go to is a bit of fork oil and CRC pure silicone spray. 👌
With the zip tie wedging the seals, do you let the fluid get into the seals until to the lowers? Or just the seals?
Dope rag
Thanks, its premium cotton haha.
i have a budget suntour xcm, the only adjusters are the preload and i literally get about 5% sag 10% if i really push hard, I am about 45 kg which is why, I haven't seen the travel get used more than 50% even on big jumps and its beggining to feel like a rigid bike, it is also a coil suspension so I cant adjust the air pressure. What do I do?
Take it completely apart. The caps off the top, remove the preload twister, remove the coil, and clean everything real nice. Now spray some dry lube down in there and 9n the outside of the stanchions too. Cycle the fork (should go all the way down with no coil in there. Really get your dry lube down in there deep. Clean off any gunk that comes out and reapply the dry lube if needed. Put some grease back on the coil and other parts that were previously greased and reassemble the uppers.
Flip the bike over and remove the bolts / caps / big bolts from the lowers. Clean anything that comes out. Give a generous spray of the dry lube down in the lowers. Cycle the fork again. Reassemble and love your better then new feeling SunTour.
I recently did this to my old hardtail and my God what a difference!
Will it work with conventional lubricant or WD-40 oil? Also does Vaseline work?
No, use something with a ptfe formula.
never use wd40 as lubricant for anything
@@ChildrenOfTheLoam why ptfe?
@@magnumllama400 it works well and doesn't leave a residue
@@magnumllama400
IT"S TEFLON OIL BASE - That's what the Letters Stand For.
When you lubricate the stanchions is it better just to push the fork so that the oil will go in there and remove some of the dust in the seals?
Ivan Karagiozov ya you certainly can do that if you feel it necessary.
@@ChildrenOfTheLoam can i do that but with silicone spray?
Just for security, remove your wheel and cover your brake calipers when you sprayed the lubricant.
a google user good tip!
Can you buy those dust seal wire springs anywhere? Ruined mine on a new fork.
I'm sure you can find them online without too much trouble.
my front suspension is not moving whatever i try it doesnt fix it does anyone know what should i do
Tear them apart, you'll instantly will see why inside.
bro just used his underwear to wipe the fork
Do rear shocks have the same issue and would benefit from this same trick or no?
they don't suffer from air buildup but they can benefit from a light lube
Children Of The Loam ok cool thanks. The air build up is what I was wondering about
hahaha he using some old boxer drawz lol
what is the red circle on the fork called?
An o-ring or "sag indicator"
@@ChildrenOfTheLoam thank u bro
I have a PTFE lube spray, is it safe to use on the stanchions
Sure is
No don't use teflon spray it will dry out the rubber seals, use silicone spray instead
@@wulfraedofivanhoe8870 yeah, didnt want to risk it so i just bought Brunox deo.
Will this work on the shock ?
You forgot the most important step... Hop on your left foot three times (no more thank that as you may damage the forks) while barking like a dog. It is critically important that you have the same number of barks as you have hops.
Will the zip tie damage the seals?
if you look closely, the tip of the zip tie has two sides, one of them ends in sharp edges and the other is rounded. inserting the ziptie pointing the rounded side to the seals is a bit safer, however if your seals are somewhat degraded, and you are a bit too rough, you could damage the seal. i still do it regularly and never had any problem
one thing to be really careful about, is not to puss any dirt inside, if you see dirt and stuff on the lip of the seal, try to clean it better before pushing the zip tie, if you push debris to the other side of the seals, it might get between the bushings and the stanchions, and that one is pretty catastrophic in the long run
Great stuff just subbed. Gonna try this.
MTB Thru my eyez did it work mate?
Rod Leonard Atienza I used triflow on mine and with a good cleaning and spraying it was slicker.
MTB Thru my eyez thanks mate!
Does muc off mo 94 work the same as the spray you used?
Ya it should be ok
Super supple "spork"
Haha! I caught that and immediately went hunting for this comment!
Will it work with oil?
Typically yes, to be safe make your you are using oil meant for suspension though.
How often would you recommend doing?
every few rides should do it but more often doesn't hurt.
is gt85 something like dw-40 or a multi spray i dont know anything about gt85
Oh no, its an oil, dont use dw 40 on your stantions it will ruin the seals
@@angeryanimal398 fuck
@@hrwrax2258 take your fork apart quick dude
The rag is a pair of boxers
I'm fairly sure GT85 swells seals! I think a pure silicone spray would be the way to go.
I've used both and had no issues with either...gt85 leaves less residue.
Nothing works best than a good disassemble, cleaning and re lube of a fork. Those forks your using probably are oil based. So what your doing will work. Doing this to a cheapo SR Suntour will harm them in the long run....ya it will work. For now.
Ya this is not a substitute for a service, just a way to keep your fork smooth between them.
How deep should the zip tie go
just far enough to break the seal so that air can escape.
I use the zip tie to lift the seal, then inject motor oil with a small bottle and squirt tube. It also helps quite a bit to add a couple ML of fork oil inside the air chamber, and bleed the damper without disassembling the fork. This will keep a Pike (or other RS fork) running fresh far longer.
deeppurplefan your totally correct. This is just a quick tip I use between rides.
Your bike is sick bro I really want that bike
HOW TO she's all yours for 3k plus shipping.
Hi, can you write what you used in this video, because i dont understand ;D
Forkboost.
Do you need those two products or just that spray on GT85?
just the gt85 should do it.
A boxer shorts on a very expensive fork?
Hmm im trying to get less squashiness prelods at max but still squashy help
can you phrase that a different way so I can try to better understand how to help?
Children Of The Loam i want to have less compression. My fork is too soft so how do i fix it i adjusted the preload
if it is a coil fork and preload is not making it stiff enough for you then you unfortunately need to install a stiffer spring.
Children Of The Loam oh
Children Of The Loam above the preload turn thingy theres an allen key hole maube i can tighten it with that?
Wait so do you put grease or lube on ur suspension
Lube, it's called triflow
What if you have coil suspension
@@victorgu5725 same deal
Children Of The Loam ok thansk
Wow didn't know
fork killer
How often would you do this?
Shane Albertson as needed
As often as you want.
Week later
Gt85 breaks down the grease in the seals . Not good idea .
do u rec. new or very used Hanes?
Well used typically work best haha
Is that a coil or air fork
Σταύρος Κωνσταντινιδης air
Children Of The Loam will it work on coil forks?
should do for the lubrication of the stanchions as the coil fork also uses this system.
Can i use diapers?
What's the name of ur cycle
it is a yt capra.
@@ChildrenOfTheLoam thnx man
I only use lower leg oil. Same on same cant loose. This is a fail
i also use fork oil
Same here. Don’t use anything but fork oil and slick honey or slickoleum . Anything else could prematurely wear/dissolve your dust wiper seals and/or foam rings or other internals.
Why shove the zipties? Just to stretch them a bit ?
what bike frame is that ?
it is a custom 2016 yt capra
But the frame isn't custom!
Nice Boxershorts 😂😂
neL l thanks man haha
Lol it even works with oil!
Did you wash your boxers?😂😂
Will wd40 work?
Jim ᑕᒪᗩᘉ it will not. It's actually a solvent and not a lube.
oops
NOOOOOOO 😁🤨 never use a water displacer on any moving part of your bike
It will eat the rubber seals
I recommend never doing this! First, the seal expands and then leaks and for secon, some Forks (Fox, Manitou) have special open oil bath and oil haven´t be contaminated by different oil.
Can you use wd 40?
idk but i use it all the time but idk it works tho
Bike Name Bro Plz 🙏🏻
Yt Capra
What bike????
It is a YT Capra CF with custom decals on it.
Are those boxers?
IlluminatiConfirmedNot they are haha, don't worry they were clean before they were retired as a rag
Rag? U mean boxers? 😂😂
for how much rupees you took your cycle

gt85 is a penetrant really shouldnt use it on suspension
It's also a lubricant and water displacer and I've been using it for suspension for years and never had an issue.
I dont have GT 85 in my country...Can I use WD-40 ?
I would not reccomend it.
