  • The 2022 Jaguar F-Type R AWD ($136,760 in Canada, $121,800 in the US) is a supercharged V8 sports coupe, with an exhaust note that backs up its ferocious looks. Optioned as an R model with its available 575 horsepower engine and all-wheel drive, Jaguar claims a rapid 3.5 seconds 0-60 mph time. But how does it perform when driven spiritedly, or used as a daily driver? And at its price point, how does it compete with some rather serious competition? Thomas and James aim to find out! We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!!

Used to have a 2016 F-Type V8 R AWD Convertible (mouthful, I know). Had SO much grip, and felt phenomenally planted without feeling heavy. Was never really pushed 10/10ths, but certainly hard enough. Loads of confidence, and in 2016 the interior and tech was acceptable, though not that impressive now. Being a 2016, it crackled and popped like a maniac. I remember many a peaceful summer sunrise being interrupted by what sounded like an automatic rifle being let off in the village center… but no, it was the Jag. Miss it dearly.

My uncle's F-type spoiler went up and refused to come down.
Jaguar Teleservice told him about the switch as if my uncle didn't know it existed.
Jaguar service dept in Vancouver says it will be two weeks before they can look at it but if it's what they suspect, the part which malfunctioned will be 4-6 weeks out on backorder. But they still need to see the car before they can submit the warranty claim.
So if you see a elderly Asian man parking his White F-Type with Red interior in Richmond and the spoilers up, he's not a douchebag (at least not to his nephew)

I've owned a 911 C4S and an F-Type R. Very different driving experiences. Yes, the 911 is, overall, a more comprehensive package and better driver's car. But (1) 911s are a dime-a-dozen where I live and (2) the F-Type is a monster all the time; it doesn't have an 'off' button for its unabashed childishness so it's a blast to drive no matter where you're going.

I HATED the infotainment in the thing but I was able to keep up and run down 911 GTSs, M3s and M5s due to those combinations and my driving skill (slightly above average). The sound was HEAVENLY. The only model above was the SVT that my brother in law bought. MSRP was $118K as it had the full leather option interior and a few other things. I paid $85K for it late in 2017. LOVED it but unfortunately we lost it to an un attentive foreigner who was late for a round of golf who ran into the rear of it at 45MPH as we were stopped in a turning lane. I would probably buy another new one over a used 911 since it's the "last hurrah". Spoiler goes up when speed exceeds 85MPH

Compared to the original model the headlights were updated to LED's and the front bar was tidied up a bit so it looks much fresher than the earlier models and doesn't have that same feeling of looking "old" compared to the new ones. I did have a 2018 V6 supercharged that I loved so I may be biased

I have a very low mileage minty 2017 F Type SVR and I absolutely love it. I have had the crank pulley changed, 200 cell sport cats and downpipes added, and a tune from VAP and it made an already fast car much faster. Above 3500 RPM it is a rocket ship. I went between the AMG GT and the SVR for a couple of months but chose the SVR as the ultimate F Type model rather than a more base model AMG GT. The SVR is a pleasure to drive anywhere, and I don't think it's overly stiff when you have the adjustable adaptive suspension setting at the softest setting. I think they are just beautiful and classy sports cars, and I do agree that the older style of headlights looked better than the new ones. The only feature I like better on the new F Type R is the front grill which lacks the crossbar the earlier style had. Some of the special SVR-only parts have now made it to the regular R model like the rear diffuser and the 575 HP tune, whereas before the R was 550HP. Anyway, great little review of a great car.

I have a '17 SVR as well, and I'm considering a pulley/tune. Have you had any issues? Are you on 91 octane?
The only reason I haven't done it yet is because I'm in the middle of nowhere. However, I'm moving to a metropolitan area (in Texas) and look forward to finding a tuner for this platform.

    • @whiteman2812
      @whiteman2812 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@amathern The only tuner to use IMO is Velocity Automotive Performance in Canada or just search VAP Automotive Performance. They have been doing R&D on the F Type for a long time, and everything I have gotten from them has been really good, from the parts to the tune. They are also very helpful if you need it, they will answer or return your call every time (often the owner of the company himself), and they are close to introducing a full E-85 package for the F Type, the first of any of the shops that specialize in this model.
I have had no problems at all with their products or my car since I went with them. The ONLY negative thing I can say is I thought the 200 cell cats and down-pipes sounded bad on my car, but some of that is probably due to the factory cat-back Titanium exhaust that comes on the SVR. Titanium creates a higher pitch naturally, and their downpipes made it too metallic. *WITH THAT SAID, they fixed that issue by making a custom set of downpipes and 200 cell sport cats for me that included in-line small-diameter resonators, and that made ALL THE DIFFERENCE!* *They sound GREAT!!!* *These custom-built resonated downpipes pipes are no longer a special order-only deal, they are NOW A STANDARD EXTRA COST OPTION you can choose on the website.* I would recommend getting the resonated version to any buyer, whether they are an SVR or R owner. They just sound better in tone, pitch, and volume than the non-resonated version.
I had ZERO problems with the crank pulley and the engine and trans tune for two years. My wife even ran a 10.9 1/4 mile in it after running an 11.1 and 11.0 over and over again. I just installed their supercharger pulley last week, along with a new belt and some other maintenance parts. Its a great design for the pulley in that it uses a heat-fit stainless steel hub and a bolt-on Grip-Tec treated pulley that you can swap in minutes. The factory pulley is a single press-fit assembly that is tedious to change. I haven't had a chance to finish it quite yet, but just need to install the new tune for it and the trans tune they sent me. Hopefully this weekend I will get it done. That should make the car a consistent 10.6 to 10.9 car in the 1/4. As you can probably tell, I do A LOT of research on any car part I use before I try it, and I have no doubt it will RELIABLY make the car faster. That is a big thing with VAP, they do not want to tune your engine to run on the ragged edge where it might have a little more power but it is super-hard on the engine. Their tune gets the most they can out of the engine and SC without over-stressing it to the point of being unreliable or breaking parts on the car. I live in KY and all of the gas stations here have 87, 89, and 93 octane. I run 93 all of the time in this car, but will absolutely swap it to E85 like my HCREWB Challenger when the kit is ready that they are developing.

I personally love what the redesign delivered for the front end. Most definitely looks more up-to-date and better. I do have the sense I’m in the minority on this though. The rear though? As "dated" as the gorgeous original front end may look, I think it would've been more profitable to stay truer to it's design and keep a wider range of engines available, with at least 2 options so that us poorer folk could have a hope and a dream of one day being able to afford one, even if it didn't end up being the full bore V8 big cat that we all want. With such a drastic change to the front end (while still good looking), I feel like anything that has the orignal styling will be worth significantly more than used examples of this design once they become "old".

Amazing, beautiful, fast, sounds F1, all one could need on the street....the R has "too much" power and one has to always watch it...the 400 is about as much as you can use safely all day every day. And the 2016 had the hugging adjustable side bolsters.... I added wireless carplay and now it is just perfect. Way better looking than a 911 and can take a big suitcase for long trips with easy... Best sleeper supercar out there. Oh, CPO for 2 years when bought in April for under 40k usd.....the best deal out there by far. Colors to get for long term: green, dark blue, silver. Done. It gets a lot of love from everyone. 911's don't get love. Nor do caymans/boxters. If you buy used well, you are way, way ahead.
Had a 996tt track modded with ohlins. Prefer life with the F-type. Not heavy feeling. The only thing I wish it had was better front corner visibility - but as you go hard the car shrinks and feele more and more nimble. Under 30mph it feels big. Repeat, under 40k out the door with 2 years of warranty. Deal of the century. Likely not cheap to keep but wow what a car. Not everyone has one too....and I like that. No, it is not a track car. It is the car you get after you tire of the track car and realize you want a car to drive long, winding roads with on the way to something special (and every day). The F type makes grocery shopping a cool experience.
1 year later. No issues at all.
More reliable than my subaru's, porsches, and volvo's.
2 years later. Still, no issues. Tuned to 550hp on e85 and 475hp on 93 ....usually in normal gas mode and it is wonderful....just about 500hp, utteryly reliable, and under 40k. Tune and metal coolant pipe preventive maintenance and fluids and no issues. Lovely car.....way more reliable than a 911....and frankly way more timeless looking. I plan to keep it.

Factor in confirmation bias. Ask any dealer mechanic if he thinks the cars they sell are reliable. By definition, all they see are problems. That's true for ALL brands, including Porsche.

@@kurtbilinski1723 Absolute nonsense. My 991 C2S has had only normal maintenance for 8 years. Brakes and tires are pricey, but modern 911's are very reliable.

I've love Jaguars for 60 years. A friend let me drive his restored '74 E-Type back in the early 1990's - and it was awesome. If I ever win the lottery, an F-Type will land in my garage. There's always a faster, better performer, but cool is cool.

Same. Never a big fan of the previous front end design, with the lower air intakes sticking more outward on both sides then the headlights it just doesn't look right. The new one to me is a perfect blend of understated elegance and aggression, and it actually matches the rear end design better than the old one. Love it!
