Kriti is a format of musical composition typical to Carnatic music. Kritis form the mental backbone of any typical Carnatic music concert and is the longer format of Carnatic song. "Kriti" also means Creation. A Keerthanam as the name suggests is a composition type based on content in which the meaning denotes the praise of a deity or God as opposed to human forms in a Javali or a Padam. It tells about "Keerthi" (fame) of the God. Thus the name Keerthanam.
