Heard of his passing and very quickly was reminded of this ethereal performance. This struck a chord with me long ago and has stuck with me all this time… what a talent- so attuned internally… a great great loss for the world of theatre and music ❤
So attuned internally is such a perfect description. You can FEEL his soul, his empathy, genuine kindness and depth-you can hear it always in his musical and artistic expression.
The same thing happened to me.. I heard the news and came here without thinking. It's so sad that such a talented performer is gone way too soon. RIP Gavin
Sobbing. There will never be another voice like his. He was a dream. Seeing his debut as Jimmy in Millie when I was a musical theater obsessed middle schooler changed my life. Been obsessively listening to his golden toned croon since (22 years) and preaching about his painfully sweet voice to anyone and everyone I can passionately gush to. We love you, Gavin 💔
Man. I found myself surprised by the emotions I felt yesterday after learning of Gavin's passing. I never knew him, never met him. I saw him once at a restaurant in Hell's Kitchen and opted not to say anything because I didn't want to interrupt his evening. His voice has been one of my favorites since the first time I heard him, and I discovered this Pasek & Paul song shortly after it was first posted solely because I was searching for more live recordings. The discovery of the work of these composers who would rightly go on to become so successful was just the little cherry on top. It would be easy to be lost in the technical facility of his voice: the seamless blending of registers or the intentional texture changes when he sang pop-influenced theatre and his own pop compositions. His stunning vibrato, effortless production, and his ability to swell and crescendo in such a natural way were just some of the ways his technique enhanced his craft. Most of all, though, Gavin was a communicator. His voice had an earnest honesty which gave a likability to characters that might otherwise be unlikeable. When paired with a good-natured character, the same honesty and earnestness made you believe every word that he sang. This really rings true in this song, and in his songs from John Bucchino's "It's Only Life" song cycle. Every word was believed, because every word had the ring of truth. My thoughts are with those who knew and loved him; it's hard losing anyone, but especially so suddenly at such a young age. As they grieve this incalculable loss, may his family and friends find solace in the outpouring of the love of complete strangers like myself.
it''s been almost two months, and i haven't looked at this video even once, ever since. i watched countless others, over and over, but i knew this one would be too much for me. it still is. it still feels too raw, and it still is too soon. but the ease and beauty of this performance, how genuine, transcendental, and simply honest he is. such staggering yet gentle skill he displayed here, unlike any other. oh, gavin. when i close my eyes, i remember.
Spent countless hours in college watching and attempting to replicate this performance, desperately trying to capture even a fraction of its beauty. I never came close. Rest in peace Gavin, you’ve inspired and will continue to inspire so many. ❤
gavin's build through the second "do you remember" at 0:40 just made me melt. his phrasing is incredible. and then the "do you remember" at 3:23. gorgeous.
Thank you, Gavin, for the joy and gifts that were uniquely you. You are irreplaceable and unforgettable. Imagining you singing and dancing with joy, free from pain. I will miss you forever.
I still can't get over how great this song is. This was my introduction to Gavin Creel (how have I never heard of this guy?!). What a beautiful song and a beautiful voice to match!
I saw hair for the first (and not the last) time 2 weeks ago, and i have been obsessed with Gavin ever since. I can't get enough of his beautiful voice... wish he could sing me to sleep every night, lol
he's so talented -- its kind of ridiculous. and considering how hard it is to sound good on a recording of a live performance, i can only imagine how incredible he was in person. what i'd give to actually meet him! he's such an inspiration. pure & simple *inspiration*.
It IS ridiculous; it WAS ridiculous, how could someone possibly have talent like that? Hearing him in person will forever be one of my most cherished experiences. I always thought I would have the chance again and I felt the same about wanting to meet him, it was a dream all these years.
I love the emotion in his voice throughout this. Especially in the last verse when he says "you're ears have tiny holes now." and "You still bite your lip." It's so beautiful.
It is so inspiring to see everything he has accomplished in life coming from such a small town in Ohio way to go Gavin! And yes he is a very sweet genuoi
oh my gosh i just realized that this is supposed to be peter pan singing this to Wendy! that makes me love it even more!! haha i love how his jacket is sparkly.
@shimmershine78 I know...it´s so sweet...and sad at the same time...It´s Perer singing to Wendy when she´s all grown up and old...i got a lump in my throut just listening to this...and his voice is just magical
I love this man with my soul, I swear I do. I can't stop listening to this song. His voice is just so...uhngf...magical. Pure magic. Please someone tell me they have this song in mp3 format. Please. And if any of you guys do, I'll message you my email or something.
So, I'm not sure if you're aware, but Gavin Creel is a Broadway star. He's been in shows like Thoroughly Modern Millie and La Cage aux Folles. He starred in Broadway as Claude in Hair, and will play Elder Price on The Book of Mormon's first U.S. national tour. While having a strong mix is extremely important, I think he'll be just fine.
Do you remember? Flying high above the waves. Past a dozen amber moons, to an island of lagoons. With magic shores and endless caves. Do you remember? How the sun would stain the sand. How still the time would stay, golden arrows point away to that close but far off land. Tell me you remember. Tell me you remember. Do you remember? A pirate’s hand of steel. How one day you learn to trust that a pinch of fairy dust isn’t make believe, it’s real. Tell me you remember. Tell me you remember. Your ears have tiny holes now … The lines upon your cheek. You take longer than you used to before you choose to speak. You still bite your lip whenever you feel nervous, And you twist your hair when you don’t know what else to do. I remember that, I remember you. I remember you, you. Do you remember? When at last, I stole your kiss. Many children come and go, I forget them once they go. But you’re the only one I miss. Here as I just found out about Gavin’s death. It’s a punch to the gut. This performance has always stayed with me all these years.
This was the video where I first discovered Gavin Creel and Pasek & Paul. Thank you for blessing the world with your talent 💜
Fly Free, Gavin ❤

I used to listen to this religiously, Gavin was a truly gifted performer and his voice was beautiful. Rest in peace
Spent countless hours in college watching and attempting to replicate this performance, desperately trying to capture even a fraction of its beauty. I never came close. Rest in peace Gavin, you’ve inspired and will continue to inspire so many. ❤
Back 14 years later; still loving Gavin's performance here, and missing the Zipper!
RIP Angel ❤
Literally his mix is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard I can't even understand how he does that with his voice
Isn’t it remarkable? I agree, it actually has never made logical sense to me how he does *that*. What a profound loss 💔
gavin's build through the second "do you remember" at 0:40 just made me melt. his phrasing is incredible.
and then the "do you remember" at 3:23. gorgeous.
That beautiful clear tone ughh what a loss. Rest in peace ❤
Rest in peace. One of my fav songs he sings!
returning to this, on this very - unfortunately - special day. Good night, sweet prince.

Same same same. ❤️❤️❤️
Me as well ❤️
Thank you, Gavin, for the joy and gifts that were uniquely you. You are irreplaceable and unforgettable. Imagining you singing and dancing with joy, free from pain. I will miss you forever.
Absolutely gorgeous! And on top of that, a genuinely kind and generous man.
I still can't get over how great this song is. This was my introduction to Gavin Creel (how have I never heard of this guy?!). What a beautiful song and a beautiful voice to match!
Had to come back to this after hearing the news :( Rest in peace Gavin ❤

I saw hair for the first (and not the last) time 2 weeks ago, and i have been obsessed with Gavin ever since. I can't get enough of his beautiful voice... wish he could sing me to sleep every night, lol

Gavin's everyman. My vision of everyman. Everytime I hear him, I learn something new about myself.
he's so talented -- its kind of ridiculous. and considering how hard it is to sound good on a recording of a live performance, i can only imagine how incredible he was in person. what i'd give to actually meet him! he's such an inspiration. pure & simple *inspiration*.
