@@therwfer Very true - but having grown up not far south of there, I've been going to that race for 20+ years until i moved away - Long Beach was a hellhole until the late 80's. A lot of the reason for the improvements to the city were because they wanted the waterfront area to be far more presentable for the race - trust me the fins look better - though I do want someone in the fountain eventually 😀

Will's streak sadly stopped at 18 years. I can't think of anyone going longer right now than Josef at 9 years. There's no other veterans in the field that could be a constant winner past 4 straight years like Alex Palou or Marcus Ericsson.
Fun fact: There is pretty considerable overlap between the Long Beach GP Course and the Proposed Triathlon courses at the 2028 Olympics/Paralympics, including the GP start/finish line on Shoreline Drive.
First IndyCar race I'd ever watched, and it was quite an exciting one. Hearing this be called a fairly average race gives me hope that I can watch some actually exciting racing this year, given the current state of F1.
Indycar can get insane. It's also very unpredictable. Sometimes they will go flag to flag and it's just a normal race. But also sometimes you will get 8 cautions and nothing but mayhem. You never know which scenario will happen at what track either lol.
Keeping track of who was leading each strategy and who was keeping up with the leaders was fun. Seeing both strategies come together at the end to battle for the lead was exciting! Really good race!
When Dixon started in Indycar there was mich more testing. Teams would run like 800 miles and set speed and fuel targets, and I think that experience has taught Dixon how to both make time and save fuel better than anyone on the grid today
Yes and Dixon also had a shitty Toyota engine that couldn't compete in raw speed so they would try to win on fuel mileage races instead and Dixon got reeeallllly good at it

You should be in for a treat since Mid Ohio did a complete repaving. Both Road America and Laguna Seca had some interesting races after they repaved last year.
So pumped for this season, interesting how the drivers are saying the new lighter aeroscreen is making the cars feel a lot more racey. I guess it's a significant CG reduction.
Yeah the schedule is a little screwy, the main reason they have that 1 month gap is everyone heads up to Indy to do the first of the FIVE test they get for the 500 which is next month, and the track is either in use or being prepped for the 500 the weeks before, so this is the only time they have to get up there and do their test runs...they get the last 1 week of indy before qualifying

Some recent good news is Long Beach has been secured for the long term on the calendar. Gerry Forsythe who used to own Forsythe Racing in the 90s/2000s (the iconic Players Blue livery) bought the rights to the race and said it's not going anywhere. There was doubt due to the rights to the race being held by the estate of late Kevin Kalkovan (Aussie billionare who owned KV Racing) looking to make a real estate development deal with the local government which would bring an end to the track.
When u realize this video is kinda out of date cause of todays news about St Pete and certain drivers being DQd from that race and the championship being all wrong,but other then that great video Will.
Well it keeps getting interesting with the Penske cars being disqualified from St Pete for manipulating the push to pass software and having it caught on the car during pre-race inspection for Long Beach.
Reading up on the Penske PTP violation, I have so many questions How long was it going on How come nobody acted on it sooner. Marshall Pruitt made the point that the team and the engine manufacturer have access to all the data. One team reported it in 2023 but apparently nothing got done How many other series is Penske cheating in?
An ex data engineer for another team put an interesting post on the Indycar subreddit that's worth a read. He said that if they were going to cheat they'd have gone about it a lot better, this was most likely a very sloppy oversight that rightfully cost them the results.
And for the Penske cheating scandal special, this show is now, officially known as: “The show that doesn’t cheat in its series like Penske does.” (This pun was made in reaction to the Penske Cheating Scandal from Tampa/St Pete).
Also the only thing I would like to see changed, is (so long as you don’t get busted by the copyright cops) the 1999-2018 ESPN/ABC Indycar theme song get used in the open. It’s the best open wheel racing theme song BAR NONE
While the dolphins still survive a driver did have a bad jump in the stadium super trucks later absolutely DESTROY the catch fence on the front straight. So that was something. Both drivers involved are OK though.
I really enjoyed this video. Race was was pretty good too. Sting Ray even finished like 19th I think. He keeps this up and he'll replace Logan Sargeant soon

I honestly would watch Indycar more often if it wasn't on the stupid Peacock streaming service. I've got enough monthly subscriptions and I refuse to add another for just sports.
NBC motorsports TH-cam channel does a decent 10 minute or so race recap, usually within a few hours of the race. Better than not seeing the race at all.
The IndyCar channel has 5 to 30min recaps of the races a day or 2 after the event, as well as extended on-board cockpit footage, interviews, and other stuff. It's not the day of, and the whole race, of course, but it is free. The extended highlights recap can make sometimes boring parts of races feel more interesting, as it of course chooses the best parts.
You posted this after the news from today. How could you leave out the fact that Indycar disqualified the Penske cars for St Petersburg? Only 5 weeks after the race.

When Honda take over as engine supplier to the Aston Martin F1 team they should swap Lance Stroll with a Honda powered Indycar driver like Alex Palou or Colton Herta. Lance can then go on to play bumper cars until he finally emulates fellow countryman Jackie Feelnerves 1995 success of becoming The Indycar Champion of the World (or America at least) and Aston will most likely go on to be crowned F1 World Champions with a driver like that partnered with Alonso.

I used to wonder why indy was so popular in the states. It has quickly become one of my favorite Motorsports, and I'm a sports car fan typically.
I'm considering subscribing to Peacock to watch some of these races. Literally costs less than F1TV, and that only has F1 content.

This was a really good race! The split strategies and watching it all come come together for a battle for the lead at the end. That was incredible!
