The song was originally written by Scott English and Richard Kerr. English's original recording was titled "Brandy," but when Manilow recorded his version several years later, he changed the title to "Mandy" to avoid confusion with the Looking Glass Song "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)."

Honestly, with all due respect to all of the wonderful teachers out there on TH-cam and everywhere else - this is the MOST helpful and easy to understand piano learning video I’ve ever seen!! I’ve been working on this for about 90 minutes (spread over two nights) and I almost have it.

Maybe that's just me, but I find it much more natural and easier, in the very first bar, to use my thumb and second finger of the right hand to play the two Cs, the D and then the D and Bb, especially so since those same fingers are used for the next bar for the same section around the middle C (and that I also don't have to "rush" back to the lower-octave Bb with my small finger for the next bar). Doesn't it also avoid having to do the "jump" you mention? Finally, those small-finger and fourth-finger positions for the lower Bb and F are used throughout the first bars, which provides for uniform and stable playing of the left hand. Thank you for a superb tutorial. You play with a beautiful fluidity and touch, and we are truly privileged to have access to this lesson.

I first heard "Mandy" (Barry's version) in 1974/1975 when I was 13. And it's been one of my most loved songs of all time.
Only a couple of years ago I discovered that it was Scott English's "Brandy" cover.
However, although I quite like Westlife rendition as well, Barry's version has remained my most favourite of all.
It was a gret job, I've no doubt!

I started trying to play this song before seeing this video. I already had it in the correct key in my head, but I had been trying to play way too many notes to make it work. I guess my ears heard a lot more than there actually are. Thanks for these videos.

Suggestion: you can make the first bar easier by taking the treble notes in the RH (as you do in bar 2), instead of needing that big LH stretch.

Where have you been all this time? Westlife's version have been played by many radio stations all over the world. Just like Manilow's version.

Really nice! But I'm still trying to figure out what a "crunchy sound" is :)
"Crunchy" usually refers to dissonance, or additional notes that are close to the chord chord tones. For example in a C minor chord, adding a D next to the E-flat adds some 'crunch.' :)

And a tutorial/lesson like this is a real treasure to me. For me It is much easier to look at the fingers and keys on the keyboard than read music.

I have never seen anyone play this song like that. Bizarre to say the least. This is the reason I don't use HDPiano. If you look at the sheet music you will see what I mean. Unfortunately HDPiano and many other sights don't use real music.

I’m the intro why wouldn’t you play the c and d with the right hand maybe even the b minor? if you do you. You don’t have to move either hand to start the next bar.
Thing is you play it this way on other parts just not the start of intro.
