SUPER HELPFUL! Thanks so much for this video. I broke the long tail of the large spring somehow when I tried to reinstall the bobbin winder. Bought a replacement, and was SO GLAD to have this video to help me understand how the various parts fit together and interact. It's reassembled and working perfectly now. Thanks again!

Once again, your experience and careful approach, saved us hours of aggravation and disappointment. I followed your instructions (MULTIPLE replays before actually commencing), and achieved great results. SINCERELY THANK YOU! 👏👏👏

Fabulous video on how to disassemble, assemble and adjust this mechanism. I have a model 15-90 that I am restoring and the bobbin winder springs were both broken. Getting it apart was simple but your sequence to adjust them would have caused me problems! Perfect and I thank you for sharing! These machines are masterpieces of engineering and craftsmanship and deserve our loving hands to preserve them.

Your demonstration of how you reassemble the winder is SO helpful! It took my so long the first time I did this. Partially screwing in the screw before you put everything in place is way faster!

Thanks Samantha, it's the little tips and tricks that make this an easier task! More importantly, is it working correctly, or do you have a wonky bobbin follower spring?

@@BobFowlerWorkshop it is catching better now. I think a small part of my issue is bad bobbins. Only three of them fit correctly. I’m sure that didn’t help my problem!

So far, when repairing this bobbin winder I've found many broken long main springs. $12 from Central Michigan Sewing.

❤❤❤. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You really saved my ass! I was following along breaking down and reassembling my machine using a different video but the gentleman had a different variation of the 15-91. I could not put this part back together and I thought I ruined my machine until I found you. You explained everything perfectly! Again, thank you for the excellent video.
P.S. I had carpal tunnel surgery back in 2015. I had gotten to the point where you are. I strongly suggest you get the surgery too. Otherwise, you’ll find that you won’t be able to hold things and you’ll be waking up from a dead sleep in excruciating pain. Good luck to you. Hope everything goes the way you want!

Excellent! I'm glad I was able to help! FWIW - My "carpal like" symptoms wasn't carpal tunnel, I had an auto immune reaction to the monoclonal antibodies infusion for Covid. It took over 3 months to gain full use of my right hand!

Even is I do not have a 15, I still learn something. Maybe one day I will have one.

I had 10 of them drop into my lap. I refurbished them for donations for beginners, quilters then charged a few folks for parts - then people asked me to totally fix them. Whew. Never intended that, but I did it. The 15-91s are very forgiving machines! My Navy, fellow veteran, is an electrician. She spent almost a year tutoring me on wiring for the direct drive here, and belt motors.

Excellent! Well done Bob. I needed the pliers adjustment for two 15-91s whose bobbin follower (latch) was slightly offset. Worked like a champ! Thank you!

Awesome video thank you. It helped alot. What about the arm that the rubber sits on and the bobbin slides into. Looks like a small hole to drop oil. Mine seems stuck and doesn't want to turn. Does this come apart too?

If a 15-91 isn't working as fast as it should, what might be the probable cause. I have five of these guys ....love'em.

Schmoo is always something to consider, because schmoo is NOT our friend, however the commutator bars of the motor may be in need of a good cleaning and polishing too.

I've refurbished 10plus 15-91s and Bob's Videos are perfect for the intricate! Every time I refer to this bobbin adjustments and assembly as I'm old and can't exactly remember ...

My bobbin follower seems to be applying too much pressure on the bobbin, preventing it from spinning. If I lift up slightly on the follower it will spin nicely. I have to lift it up in this manner until the bobbin is full. Everything has been lubricated with sewing machine oil also. Have you ever encountered this on the 201-2?

  • @Lou4130

Hey Bob! great video as usual!! Do you have any suggestions on how to get out a stuck screw (the first one you removed in this video) I have a 201-2 i got from e-bay and the bobbin winder either isnt installed correctly or it needs a new spring. It is always engaged and the spring is just flopping around, so i wanted to fix it but cant for the life of me get this screw out. I have tried soaking it in oil and WD-40 from the back with the machine on its tail end to get the oils in the threads and also tried some heat, but the screw wont budge! I have a new winder with the screws for it so I was thinking i could cut the head off the screw and then slide the winder off and then just visegrip the screw post and unscrew/remove it. But i wanted to see if you have any other suggestions before i go to that extreme measure! Thanks Bob!

OK, at 9:50 you talk about how it is in the right spot or the wrong spot. What is the difference, why is one right and the other wrong? How can you tell?

    • @BobFowlerWorkshop
      @BobFowlerWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I was talking about the orientation of the stop motion washer. If you insert it 180 degrees off, you can't tighten the stop motion knob with the retaining screw inserted all the way. That's the situation I found myself in, I had to remove the knob, turn the washer 180 degrees on the shaft, then reattach the knob.

They are very close to being the same thing, just the size of the bobbin follower is different.

OMG - Hell yes! However, a Millers Falls #9 is the same size and has a superior blade cap design - more points of contact! Email me at argosybob@gmail.com and I can send you pix of the different parts of both planes.

I had the same issue. Try Blue Creeper or your preferred penetrant and heat from a hair dryer. That worked for me. Good luck!
