    Just thought I would clear up the "Exit 13 off the 25" segment. In New Mexico, and in many places across the US, exit numbers were just ordered and not based off of the mile marker like they are today. This was changing in New Mexico specifically right around the show's release. It is likely that Victor was referring to the old system which is why it seems like it is so far away when in reality it was probably a 20-30 minute drive away.

      Well at times Mike also uses Victor (or Tyrus who had yet to appear) as a proxy, like when he wanted to warn Gus about the twins breaking into Walt’s house. So the last “who knows a guy” isnt a complete lie even if it’s said by precaution.

      @@Erowaxthank you. I’ve been thinking this for a long time, specifically the scene you’re referring to with Mike calling Victor who told Gus. I thinks it’s pretty clear that early one Mike wasn’t supposed to have as big of a role as he ended up having.

    My personal theory for the extra guy in Saul’s “I know a guy” line is that Saul wasn’t aware at this point that Mike was Gus’ lead man. After travelling through the desert with Mike in ‘Bagman’ Saul met Tyrus and Victor. Saul may have assumed from here on that Mike knew Tyrus/Victor who knew Gus.

    • @betterwatchtv
      @betterwatchtv  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m sure at the time they meant Victor, although there’s that flashback in BCS where Saul asks Mike what “he who shall not be named” thinks about Walt. To me that implied that Saul knew that Mike knew Gus directly. But I suppose he could think he’s getting his info through Victor! 🤷

      I always liked her, and the mystery behind their family of origin that as angry as Skylar was at Marie, she still took the hit for her--pretending labor, rather than turning her in for shoplifting the infamous tiara.. But wouldn’t let her get away without acknowledging wrong doing. She still protected Ted, it protected her too, but seeing how spoiled he was to have heated bathroom floors and getting a new car over paying the taxes, took some of the protective quality away, it’s still there for Hank, so much so she joins in to help her BIL and sister, going back to Walter. I never understood people not liking her.

    This episode is fairly nostalgic for me. Not for the Skylar scenes but for all the scenes with Walt rushing to get the product to gus. And the no, no, not now! Not now! I love it!! I remember quoting it to my friend and we had great memories

  • @ewetwentythree

    As soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew what was up lmao. To be honest, I don't even remember watching the birthday scene, I didn't even realize it existed until people called it the worst scene of the show. Maybe I blanked out during that part due to how bad it was and then my memory did a good job making me forget the experience. Anyways, I did cringe a lot on my first Breaking Bad binge, mainly at any part where Walt was nearly being caught, I'd say the cringiest scene of the entire show is the speech
    As for the rest of the episode, it has so many memorable moments. The introduction of Gus is awesome, Gus responding to Walt out of annoyance is another example of how close he was to avoiding his demise. If he kept his mouth shut and continued with the bit, or if he didn't go to kill Hector himself, he'd be ok.
    I like to imagine that the reason that the drinks aren't labeled is because Los Pollos employees are so extreme they memorize what each drink is and where to dispense it at lmao. Anyways, this is definitely an iconic episode, even if for some it's the wrong reasons

    • @betterwatchtv
      @betterwatchtv  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well said! It seems like Gus is not actually a "cautious man" considering he had these complete unknowns meet at one of his restaurants with him actually being there! And yes, having the employees memorize drink locations does seem like a very Gus thing to do.

    The sanscript word ‘Mandala’ meaning circle of life is symbolized prominently throughout this episode & the ones around it: This is the first episode with Los Pollos Hermanos, the logo has a yellow circle; & the first episode with Gus, his surname Fring has the word ‘ring’ in it; Theres deliberately a circle behind Gus when he tells Walt to never trust a drug addict; When Victor tells Walt about the deal, theres a circle with a flower inside of it on the wall behind Walt- a direct reference; & so much else including wheels, such as on Tomas’ bike that the episode begins focused on & the spare tire Walt rolls away at the start of next episode; etc. There is also the silent ‘o’ in the title of the next episode Phoenix, resembling the circle of life as well. The Los Pollos Hermanos cup logo has a blue circle- a focal point in Gus Fring & Walter White’s first scene in Mandala. It also resembles the blue marble photograph from Apollo 17. Gus Grissom & Ed White were part of the Apollo 1 crew that was allegedly killed by NASA as an example to ensure secrecy of all future astronauts, they factored into the naming of Gus & Walt. A key scene in this episode Phoenix is Jesse & Walt in his classroom, theres a terrestrial globe throughout that imperative scene. Walt then directly references flat earth in the next episode ABQ, in regard to his two cell phones. So even the concept of the world itself as a flat circle is represented in these episodes. Jane has Saturn on her bedroom mural, known for its planetary ring system.

    Rewatch breaking bad recently,In fact Walter and his wife acting is no any change in the middle and until the end,other character like Mike and Jesse, even Walter Jr and Hank they all are growing up and changing,only this couples still arguing at the end,it is very annoying,and make Walter just look like as a very stupid Evil,and Not showing any intelligence or smart through out the film,his Character is very dim totally don't know what he actually want,just repeating saying doing this for family,i think this is the fault of writer
