Paw Hole / Coyote Buttes South / Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness - UT/AZ (Oldie-But-Goodie 2017)

  • In 2017 I won a permit to hike in Coyote Buttes South from the Paw Hole trailhead, in the Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness, which spans the border of Utah and Arizona. This was recorded back in 2017, before TH-cam became a big thing, and I don't think hashtags existed, and I was just beginning to make videos. It's an oldie, but I hope you still enjoy it. I apologize for the wind, but you can just turn off the volume if you wish.
House Rock Valley Road is a rough drive in, and the 2.3 miles into Paw Hole had me shaking. I hope you'll join me. If you'd like to view more pictures or view this as a blog post instead of a video, you can see it here: nomadfornature...

Nomad for Nature and Tranquil Light Photography the new rig just had its inaugural voyage. If things go well, I will have it built up enough by December to take it south this year. Hope to see you again!

As usual, I really enjoyed your video. Thanks so much for the special intro. I have a feeling you have an interesting story to tell should you some day choose to do so. You are somewhat of an enigma to me...and I mean that in the best possible sense. You seem to be/have such a kind and special spirit. The sort that people are just naturally drawn to.
The colors and formations reminded me of a beautiful drive on I-15 when you are cutting through the corner of UT, AZ and NV all within 5 or 10 miles as you go down through the beautiful but steep pass from St George UT and into Mesquite NV. If you are looking up and watch close on your left, part way down (which isn't easy, especially if you are the one doing the driving since the road requires pretty much all your attention there) you can catch a glimpse of one of those utterly cool arches Utah is so famous for. I didn't realize it until last week when I was at a wedding, but I was told by a friend who was also there, that that point is the very beginning of "The Grand Canyon". I had to check it out for myself on Google Maps afterward and verify that she was right and sure enough she was...that is the exact point where it begins. I have been through that spot a number of times and never had an inkling about that little factoid. I'm thinking St George probably isn't so much your cup of tea as it is so developed, but I Love it there because when I am driving to Quartzite in January it is the spot where you always leave winter behind and get to step out into what seems like another world with the Palm Trees and the warmth after having driven through four or five hundred miles of bitter winter weather and icy roads.
Stay safe Roxy....I and others, I suspect, enjoy sort of living a part of our lives vicariously through you and your adventures...keep 'em coming...I am always looking forward to seeing something new from you~* Peace, Russ §

It's true that my life has been anything but ho-hum...lol. I've been through a lot, life's trials and tribulations make some people bitter, but we can also choose to be grateful for the good we have in our lives now and enjoy it to the max, kinda like making up for lost time, and then some :-) BTW, I have some of my story covered on my blog in the intro and about, at nomadfornature.wordpress.com/

Traveling and exploring alone isn't for everyone. I'd love to have someone to do these things with, I just don't have anyone, so I do it alone as I have no choice.

Absolutely amazing. I've never seen these tepees before, even in photos. I've seen the one major "wave" area that everyone photos, but not this area. This is one video where yes, the wind actually did add to the video. It really did bring us right in there. Amazing scenery. I'm a new subscriber. I was doing some amateur photography with a few light trips, but didn't have the money to continue so for now I'm working on a business to earn money and hopefully get to travel in the future. You are such an inspiration to be a woman out there on your own. I was doing that too, but not nearly to that extent.

Hopefully when I go (soon I hope) I will meet up with you and we could travel together....I don't like being in RV parks...too many people...rather see the world in the wild...but I agree with you..its nice to experience these places with someone else...keep sharing your videos..they are great.

I do enjoy meeting up with someone every now and then, but as much as I'd like to share my travels with a 'special' someone, (like a boyfriend) I'm no longer sure that I could. I've been going-it-alone for so many years, that is what I'm used to now. LOL. However, that said, I do enjoy having someone with me that is skilled in 4x4 driving (and has the necessary equipment etc) and I miss out on a lot of things like slot canyoneering because I don't have a climbing partner. I push myself a little bit, but I don't go to the extreme alone.

    • @teccawita7818

I get it...once you're alone doing what you love its hard to start traveling with someone else.

Thanks so much for showing interest in exploring my other web pages :-) There are links in the information section beneath the video, and also links in the header of the TH-cam Channel. There is also a link at the end of the video in the video (it's the picture of me in a circle). I have a blog (nomadfornature.wordpress.com) the TH-cam Channel with tons of more video's (click the Playlist or the Video Link above the video you just watched) and I also have a photography web page (www.TranquilLightPhotography.com). I just tested the links and they all seem to be working.

Gorgeous scenery. How many miles would you say you hiked that day? Where did you camp in relation to your hike? Thank you for sharing.

    • @AdventureNomadforNature

I camped along House Rock Valley Road, about 5 miles north. No idea how far I hiked, maybe four miles. Exploring rocks is different than trail hiking.

has anybody tried this road in a jeep renegade trailhawk. I have all terrain tires and an airpump to lower the tire pressure, I also have maxx traxx just in case I get stuck and a tow rope, shovel and hilift jack which I can use to winch to a tree or rock if I am close enough. Any thoughts.

I managed it in my AWD Astro Van with upgraded tires and a 3" body lift. It's not a 4x4 therefore not a real 4wd vehicle. It also had just about bad everything in the AWD department at the time. What I do know is that trying to go beyond this trailhead is uphill and not recommended because the sand gets very deep, people go in a different route and only come downhill to this point from the east northeast. If I can make it in my van to this trailhead, I'm sure a Jeep would have no problem at all. 😁 But don't take my word for it please, talk to the rangers when you get your hiking permit for this area.

Roxy, I'm making plans to become a nomad about this time next year. I've spent all my vacations photographing the south west over the past 20 years (UT, NH, CO, and AZ) mostly roughing it, just not in an RV. I'm looking forward to being able to spend all the time I want where I want. Thanks for this vid. Have been putting off coyote butte until I had time to do it right (I shoot B&W large format so it's a bit bulky).

    • @AdventureNomadforNature
      @AdventureNomadforNature  7 ปีที่แล้ว

Coyote Buttes is a wonderful area. If you try to get a permit for The Wave I wish you luck. :-) Roughing it is cool, my RV used to be a mid-sized 4WD SUV. Now I have a van I feel like I'm living in a castle. RV's can be any vehicle. This lifestyle is incredible, and it sounds like you've had the experience already, so it won't be too much of a shock to minimize (like for some). Thanks for the follow. See you down the road.

Nomad for Nature and Tranquil Light Photography wonderful. If you ever get to the Escalate, UT are, check out The Hole in the Rock Road. A few nice slot canyons as well as The Golden Cathedral. Nice light along with the fall cottonwood colors.

I just went from here to your blog and when I tried to "Like" and comment on your post & poem I found that you had deleted my account. Sorry for whatever I did to merit that action. Certainly no offense was intended. Take care.

Yes, all is well. A video takes about 15-hours to make, excluding the time recording. Unfortunately I have to work for the summer (LOL) which only leaves me a couple of hours in the morning (before work) to do stuff. I'm way behind on blogs and video's because I just can't find the time. I do have the material for making a new one though....soon...thanks for caring.

Jack - Regarding the (supposed) deleted account. You said you were on my blog (not Google) and it wouldn't let you give me a like. I don't do anything with the people who have signed up for my blog. I'm not even sure how to get to my subscribers list. Can you sign up again, and try another like. I'm wondering if it's just a network glitch or something. Or was this through Google+ (I was messing around with it the other day, trying to stop notifications of birthdays of everyone showing up on my Google calendar, maybe I did something by accident then). I'm not sure where to begin looking.

I just checked my Wordpress account, and you are still listed under subscribers, and also on TH-cam. There should be no problem. Strange...
