I believe one Roscoe S. Benson captured my thoughts on the 1911 in the best way imaginable: "Of course the 1911 is an outdated design. It came from an era when weapons were designed to win fights, not to avoid product liability lawsuits. It came from an era where it was the norm to learn how your weapon operated and to practice that operation until it became second nature, not to design the piece to the lowest common denominator. It came from an era in which our country tried to supply its fighting men with the best tools possible, unlike today, when our fighting men and women are issued hardware that was adopted because of international deal-making or the fact that the factory is in some well-connected congressman's district. Yes, beyond any shadow of a doubt, the 1911 IS an outdated design....and that's exactly what I love about it."
I didn’t know I liked a 1911 model pistol until I purchased one. It has a light trigger pull and I’m deadly accurate with mine. I can take golf balls off a fence post at 60 feet. This one is not that impressive but I can hit a 30 pound propane tank at 120 yards…. 45auto. I was a lousy shot until my 1911 told me, “here, I’ll teach you how to shoot”.
Met my first 1911 in Vietnam & been building & collecting them ever since. Love taking a $1000. production 1911 and building it into a fine piece of machinery. So sad though, if had to grab my "to go" bag and run out the back door thru the corn field I would have to take a Glock, bummer. My 1911's are so fine but the Glock should shoot 5000 rounds or more without cleaning and it has a giant mag capacity. But until then I carry and shoot 1911's everyday, mostly in 9mm these days.
For a subsonic .45 1911 is still wicked impressive. Even 9mm variants are pretty impressive. The 10mm starts to get a bit long between sight resets with the added kick, but still accurate.
There are many great guns out there and I have a number of them. However, my love affair for the 1911 goes back a long way and as I like to say it can almost shoot itself. By the way, nice shooting.
@@BullseyePistol the finishing and the fitting is unlike any handgun I’ve ever held. No sharp edges, no rattling. Shoots very accurately, even for a 45acp platform. Can’t imagine how smooth it’ll shoot in a 9mm. If you ever get the chance to shoot one. Give it a try! Really changed my perspective on handcrafted handguns compared to production hand guns.
1. Ergonomics 2. Accuracy 3. Trigger My order would be first trigger, second ergonomics, third accuracy. The trigger is predominately why the 1911 is still King. It is still the preferred pistol in competition matches because of that trigger. A 1911 can be extremely accurate with tight tolerances. A tight barrel bushing, tight barrel lug, and a recoil spring guide rod buffer kit. I have had two 1911s over the years and both competed in bowling pin matches and combat matches.
I love the P210! The newer American ones are pretty good too. In my experience they are not as accurate as a well built 1911 and the trigger (as good as it is) still hinges and has a nearly unnoticeable reset which I don’t prefer. Still sad I sold mine.
Stainless is a coarse rough steel, takes a lot to get it to run smooth. I like "Break Free" to break it in without galling. Lube often in the first fifty rounds. (like 10 times) A bit less to 200 or so then just some grease on the rails.
stainless on stainless has a propensity of galling. Steve Huff who does Accuracy X guns uses stainless that doesn't gall, but he's one of the only ones. Dan Wesson, for example, uses (last time i checked, which was a few years back when they discontinued their carbon guns and i dismissed the brand as a result) stainless slides and frames and the gun will be 'permanently ruined' if you shoot them without lube -- something they even claim in their manuals. Break-in for a gun means the proper steps in building it were not taken. A gun like the one shown in this video does not have a break-in period because the builder did not leave areas unfinished that need to break themselves into working.
Not as much as you'd think, fact is some don't even know it. I am but I recommend both eyes open, I used to compete against paper statewide with my dept. but I also had to compete against people shooting back and you have to train consistently. Rifle? different story ;

King? King of what? It is a beautifully designed firearm for sure but it has seen its day. It is now as obsolete as the caliber it was built around and the dying sport of bullseye shooting. It is no more accurate than a solid 2011 and with far less firepower. If you don’t believe me, look at how many professionals are carrying 1911’s.
1911: I stand atop all. Glock and 2011: Excuse me?! 2011: Wait a minute? Why are you here, Glock?! Glock: Let's give credit where it's due. You're the best hammer-fired and I'm the best striker-fired. 2011: Aight, that's pretty fair. 1911: Excuse me, I... Glock and 2011: BOI IF YOU DON'T GET---
Why would I buy a 1911, when I could buy an HK, which is DA/SA and has a decocking lever? You certainly can't say with any evidence that the 1911 is better quality, more reliable or more accurate. So, there is no reason to say the 1911 is still king.
Have you ever fired an HK at fifty yards? If so what was the group size? DA triggers are by design worse. How many HKs do you see in the hands of top level competitors v. 1911s. Asking honestly. Welcome to the channel.
First of all I don't plan to fire a pistol 50 yards. My main purpose for owning a gun is for self defense and fun shooting. 50 yards falls outside the criteria of both these. Second, it's usually not the pistol that determines accuracy, especially at 50 yards. Shooting skills, especially trigger control, and the quality of ammunition makes the marksman. The quality of the German made HK guns guarantees the same accuracy as any other well made gun. You'll never convince anybody with facts that an HK is inaccurate. In terms of triggers, many people have written they believe the trigger on the HK VP9 is as good as it gets.
@@wfr435 Thanks for the quick response. I think we have different definitions of both fun and accuracy. I’m not aware of a handgun HK makes that can group less than an inch and a half at 50 yards. This is the typical accuracy standard for 1911s designed for precision shooting. I’ll dig into the VP9. I’ve heard good things about it as a defensive pistol.
A few points. The aggressor decides how far you are going to shoot. You may not plan to shoot at fifty yards but the criminal dictates the distance you shoot. I own striker/DA-SA and SAO. And by far I shoot better and have more confidence with my 1911 SAO. And as far as reality. All my pistols are equal. Now I've carried all fire mechanisms. And the slim single stack 1911 imprints the least. But I like to say. I don't care what you carry, JUST CARRY! I want you beside me defending the sheep in this world.
Being made of forged steel and fully loaded with 45 caliber ammunition it makes an excellent paperweight. It also is highly effective at killing folks that need killing in the hands of grown men that don’t consider a sidearm a penile extension.

Do people shoot 2011's in the bullseye world? I have a few from USPSA but not sure if they can be used in a bullseye match.
Typically they don’t but I could see it happening more in the future. I’m building out a .22 so I should be able to have an opinion on one soon.

It does but I already had them.
