@@garageaquatics2023 thank you. I had to try and see if straight compost would work. But found out that wasn't working. I've already reset up the tank. Just waiting on some plants to get here and then I will post the updated video

Oh man... Wow... That definitely looks like tannins.. water hyacinth is a tough one to keep going in an aquarium
I like black sand ... Next time buy black blasting sand.... Way way way cheaper
    Great honest update my friend
    Yup

Yea this is what makes the hobby fun try new things to see what works or doesn't work. So I opted to tear it down and go with a proven method with FF perfected soil mixture. My 20 gallon is doing so well with that method I can go wrong

The black sand I got from Amazon took a lot of rinsing before it started running clear. It was so worth it though, I absolutely love the black sand.

So the sand I ordered is actually a brand called imagitarium so I will see once it gets here. Thanks for your tip

This is why the hobby is so fun you can experiment and see what works and what doesn't work. It's all no matter the outcome. It's called learning

Thank you for sharing my guess is the mixture of components for the dirt is key and your compost was just a lot of biological material.
But I am really surprised to see the liquids of compost leaking up to the water column with that thick sand cap you put on top of it.
Hopefully you will succeed with the newly setup tank but as seen in the video the smaller one is already looking very nice so I don't have worried regarding that.

@@Guppygeddon yea I have no hesitation using Father Fish dirt mixture. As my 20 gallon is doing just super awesome with his soil in there. Thanks for your much appreciated comment

The soil you were using was high in coconut fiber or bark…. You should get good garden dirt sift through a mesh metal liner then put in the aquarium and then 2-3 inch of sand … sorry for you bad experience… if you are curious try again with organic garden soil

@@ConstantineAquascaping well I have a 20 gallon fully dirted tank using Father fishes soil. So that's what I just re-did the 29 gallon with Father fishes soil so I have no fear using his mixture my 20 gallon is proof how well his stuff works.
