I'm enjoying seeing everyone in the UK and Ireland planting sweet peas for this current spring season over there, whilst here in Melbourne, Australia, we're about at sweet pea planting time ourselves, despite it being autumn. We plant now so that they can get a start before the winter months when it'll stagnate and then burst up when winter is coming to an end and it starts getting warmer. Fascinating to see how the differences in climate and temperatures affect what is grown and when.
It's common over here to do autumn sowings too! We have some in the back garden which have turned into an absolute jungle already before being planted out. I've just been really behind on allotment sowings 😊
@@JBNat I'm jealous that you can do two sowings! I don't think I could really do spring sowings of sweet pea because they'd likely curl up and die in our heat before they got to flowering 😅
Hi JB, the sweetpeas frame looks good with Jess's help, Steve will be looking down with a smile on his face ❤ you have done a,lot of tyding too. Exciting times ahead. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
I was exhausted staggering in from the garden today. Massive catchup after being away on holiday. Lawns mowed and edged, raised beds weeded and mulched, Hotbin emptied and cleaned. Couple of lettuce planted, chillis watered.. I'm not match fit yet hence the staggering...watching you working hard in the garden is so much easier 😁 That pea frame is such a brilliant feature. I was just counting how much time I've spent planting canes, winding gardening string around them, messing with pea sticks. I'm still considering a raised bed to raised bed arch for runner beans using the same idea. It's been brilliant watching your progress this week!
Had a very similar experience yesterday Chris! I staggered home after starting and then giving up on the raised beds... Passed out on the sofa for three hours 😂 I'm excited to see how the trellis at the plot and the back garden fare this year. I must say I detest all the faffing with canes and netting and all that. Does my head in!!
That amazing accomplishment feeling! Nice to see the sweetpea frame up. Will look amazing when it’s covered in sweetpea’s. Reminds me I still need to sow mine
I know that feeling JB so looking forward to planting out my sweet peas tomorrow - Steve's recommendation Eagle Seeds. You done that wonderful man proud.
Good to see your other half Jess involved in the video 🌿🌿🌿 it's been beautiful here in Whitby today managed to get out and give my back garden its first mow 🌿🌿🌿 looking forward to seeing you sitting out under the shade of the trees in the sunshine 🍷🍸😎☀️ and omg don't talk to me about squirrels 🐿️ they're really cute but cause so much havoc 🥴😵💫🙄😆
Understand how you feel after doing your chores on the plot It’s looking great JB, I felt very good a couple days ago after cleaning up my backyard garden also bringing in compost it really feels good, Hi Jess ❤
It’s so strange, but only last week I was thinking about Steve from Greenside up as I used to follow his channel and watched the build of the polytunnel and wondered what happened to it and all the hard work on his plot etc. I’ve only just started watching you since you took Jessie, plot 37 to melcourt…..very interesting especially as I’ve been using it for a few years….you have Steve’s tunnel, how wonderful. They do get extremely hot! I’ve been gardening for over 50 years, but learnt so much from Steve and miss him and all his practical knowledge so much, so sad. Now watching your channel makes me think of Steve and his wisdom. Thanks
i am so thrilled to see the sweet pea frame back up in am a big lover of sweet peas and loved Steve’s updates on them well done jb a big week of achievement this week for you one gold star 🌟
Very envious of your greenhouse staging, it looks so good! I grew Alice’s Dream after watching Jessie last year, got it from tomato revolution and it was my favourite, they’re being mollycoddled this year poor plants 😂💚
Those bits of frame iron you have left would be very helpful and handy for spacing you plants when planting out or sowing your carrot seeds in their bed's 😊
So exciting to watch everything coming together! It’ll be so nice when you have your lil seating area complete. ❤ You got so much done, which is super inspiring. Happy Easter, if you celebrate it! 🥰🌱❤️
Oh now just having a day like that is so rewarding - we just need a bit more warm weather. I'm with you on the horse manure but it does break down in the end. We've been giving our cardboard a good old dunk in the water butts before laying it - just gets it a bit wetter. And please - what's going on with the rusty monkey?
Haha is there actually 11k seeds on one of those bags of "salad bowl red"?! If so, that's just bonkers. I mean I know they're small and all but still! Haha half way to Australia 🤣Was gonna say you could use the same kind things you used on the beds the other day, but those sleeper anchors looks like they'll do the job! And with those other additions I don' think it'll be going anywhere 😄Also, seems like you have an "interesting" mix of weather haha.
Any sign of the yellow rattle yet in your wildflower area? I'm delighted to say I sowed some seed in my patch last autumn and this weekend I saw loads of little seedlings among the grass!
Ahhh very lucky! No unfortunately not, I don't think it took very well at all and only had two seedlings pop up so I've given up on it for now. If there were any seedlings they've been absolutely trampled during this project!
Hi JB loved watching you ‘warts & all’, you seem to be catching up. I’m really pleased with all my seedlings/germination, but why have all my peppers got tiny black spots on the leaves? Never seen it before and have usually had great success in the past 5 years since we started on our plot. The peppers are about 3” high and look to be quite healthy- apart from the spots! They are on a bright windowsill in my porch - any ideas/ advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks Heidi
Thanks Heidi! Are the spots on all the peppers or just on certain varieties? Do they brush off with a damp rag/cloth? My first thought is surface mould from high humidity or aphids? If the plants look healthy I wouldn't worry too much!
@@JBNat no they won’t wipe off, they’re on all varieties, look like tiny raised black pinpricks - ah well they seem to be still growing if not I‘ll have to go against my rule and actually buy some in!!☹️
@@JBNat you lucky duck! It was a complete surprise for us and it said nothing about snow or frost on the forecast ❄️ Thankfully, it didn't last long and my tomato seedlings are still ok in my greenhouse. I'm growing sweet peppers for the first time this year and thankfully they're still tucked up warm on the heat mat indoors 🫑 Are sweet peppers and Chilli peppers similar to grow from seed or do they need different care? 🤔
Ahhh I wondered if anyone would notice!!! Eagle eyes! I realised as soon as I stopped recording and put my camera away. Can't believe I forgot to tie up the handle this time but it's all sorted now.
I have only just realised that you and Jess at plot 37 are not talking about each other 🤣🤣🤣 she talks about a jb and you talk of a Jess and I made assumptions 🤣🙈
Hi JB . I posted on another one of your videos about trying to get in touch with you about a video to do with hay-fever. May help you may not, but I know how much you suffer. I will forward it to you if you send me your email. Thanks Marion 😊 🇮🇪.

Great video as always. Lovely seeing Jess working with you. How about planting a rose either end of the sweet peas in honour of Steve?
The spoon/current type tomatoes are some of my favorite garden treats.
Oh that's nice to hear!

16:38 LOL 😂 JB got some moves.
Hahahah couldn't resist leaving that clip in the video
I still think that's not an L-bed... it's a J-Bed, JB!
I’ve got clay soil which is all uneven and nobbly. Makes it difficult to level things. Your plot looks great fella. Enjoying your videos!
I'd never thought of blaming the clay!! But we're on heavy clay too so maybe that explains it
Those Cowslips are so prettyyy! 😍😍😍
Aren't they just fantastic??
Yes tomatoes!! The plot is looking pretty sweet now JB. 👌
Great to see so many uploads from you during your week off. The gravel trays under the pile of containerwise seed trays are from where please JB?

Snap. My toms started to show yesterday too, but not many yet

I'm not counting that packet of seeds!!!! They are tiny though so it's possible!
@@JBNat Haha 😂 Would be fun to do and then complain if there are fewer!
Have you considered using that L shaped bed and frame to grow squash vertically?

You could try pinching out the tops of your chilli’s if they are a bit too leggy.
I've done that on a few of the ones at home! Discussed in episode 4 of my chilli guide :)
👍
