    Back in the early eighties I put a 1/16 chevy van kit together that was pretty much the same. It had 4-wheel drive and sidepipes and the big tires. It even had a bed in it too. But the one thing that made it "unique" was it had a reel to reel tape player where the sink/stove was located in your kit. Hey, it was the late seventies/early eighties! See ya!

    Built this kit when I was a kid, and loved it...grabbed this reissue, and am going to build it again!

    Awesomeness!! That's not a fireplace, it's the ventilation for the kitchen stove thingy, it goes right above it. Awesome detail to add, as is everything else! Such a cool kit, detailers can go absolutely to town with this!! :^) Thanks for the review man :^)

      Good call, I think you're right.
      Logs must be for a diorama outside the van.

    Coolest review yet, you made me smile...like a kid at Christmas/Hanukkah. I hope you do the build review, I can't wait until you post the build review! I'd fully build the engine, attempt to get the piston position correct, then take pictures of the partially built block to show all of the hidden details! Definite want!!!!!! Thank you, sir.

    Awesome kit review!! I'm getting one off of ebay cause my local craft & hobby stores no longer carry these kits. I love your energy & excitement as you discover new cool parts, you have me laughing & glad that I finally got one for myself that I'll be building for Tim Hulsey's Ford truck month! Thank you again & kutgw, peace!

    I'm so glad you reviewed this kit. I'll have to pick up one. MPC in the 70s actually released a series of these wonderful 1/20 vans:
    Slammer, which simulates a rolling jail cell
    1970 Econoline Chateau Club
    1971 Econoline Utility Van
    Wizard
    Ironside from the TV Show; this kit includes his wheel chair and ramp!,
    Giant Visible Van; lots of clear parts to show off the detailed custom interior.
    Supervan

    Nice review again, great technique using your hand behind the white plastic to get the camera to maintain focus! And used to have this one back in the day. Mine was yellow with simplified interior. Still have that thermos in the parts stash. The only part that remains...

    Hey hpiguy the fireplace part for the kit is actually an exhaust vent for the stove.

  • @rickr442
    @rickr442 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool! Minor point, that ‘custom steering wheel’ is the horn ring for the stock steering wheel. This kit is a modified reissue of the kit of the ‘IRONSIDE’ tv series van, yet another tv license arranged by George Barris.

    You really need to build up some kind of two wall garage diorama. While this is 1/20 scale, a garage with a pegboard, a 1/20 poster of Farrah Fawcett, spare rims and hubs stacked in corner...when I build this, I know what I'm doing. Hobby Lobby is a great place. You make this look so easy!

    Engine rocker cover shape is a Windsor block. 302 or 351 (Windsor, not Cleveland). These vans came with 302s. 351 Windsor is an almost direct swap and would be a likely choice in a vehicle like this. I’ve done the swap years ago and only the exhaust manifolds were changed to make it work.

    @VinceWeston 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow! That is some amazing detail! Maybe you can get a spark and gas to that engine and fire it up! I never knew those MPC van kits were that nice. $17.99 at Hobby Lobby would be a steal! I wonder if they'll get it.

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sure hope they'd get it. I wouldn't mind owning two, one to build one to keep, but at $30 I'll stick with one for now.

      LOL. Ah, the trials of being a builder and collector. You have double the stash...:) I would be cool if they get it. I guess the alternative is finding one at a show sometime in the future.

      It came out three and a half years ago now. Video is from Jan 2015.
      I'm guessing it was so popular that it sold out fast?

    • @leann262
      @leann262 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably. I'm just getting back into modeling, so I'm learning quick that if you want something you have to snatch it up right away. It sounds like the reissue numbers might be pretty limited to begin with. There's a reissue of the 1977 Ford Cruising Van coming out this fall, so that's some consolation.
