Thank you so much for all your research , my daughter met you in an interview at Hopkins and we are impressed with your work. Blessing to you and your family.
I have Autism and have found out that fasting causes a marked change in my behaviour, and mood. The sensation I experience whilst performing a fast(for me a 3.5 day fast) is akin to being on high alert mode. There is something for scientists to work on regarding the effects of fasting on those with Autism.
I am 52 and I am growing younger. I started daily intermittent fasting eight months ago and I have a physical job. Losing weight was not my goal, but that happened. I just want you to know that my eyesight got better. Now I can read the paper without needing reading glasses, that I have used for a few years. Weird. Any research on that? Can you actually grow younger? I totally feel younger and stronger and smarter. . This is very important science. My main improvements came after six months, so it takes time.
+Pia Nyström I noticed my eye site improved when I started eating clean, dumped the junk (wheat, sugar, processed), lost some weight, but not yet doing IF. The doc felt it was because of a reduction in my blood pressure. (A problem I have been treating). Just a theory! I have been doing 16:8 IF for 5 weeks now, and it is definitely something I can do long term. It was rough the first week, but after that much easier. I also do a ketogenic diet, where the body produces ketones for primary fuel instead of glucose, which I think certainly makes IF easier as it helps controls cravings. The 'smarter' you feel is likely the ketones in the brain. It is arguably a better fuel for the brain, and something you will produce much more of on IF. So wonderful you have found success!
The older you get the more insulin resistant you get. Even slightly elevated bloodsugars are deleterious. Low carb can have the same effect as fasting.
Karlyn P Perhaps your doc is right, perhaps that's what happened in my case too. Intermittent fasting lowers blood pressure, if I dare to believe in the science so far. In any case, we both feel better, and that is what matters!
Also, you may have been pre-diabetic. Chronic high blood glucose causes the lens of the eyes to swell and change the refraction. The lens is one of the handful of human tissues that requires glucose only and it is very sensitive to high levels.
Rosie Jase it will work if you are chronically tired or you have your adrenals in a bad shape. If you get better then increase to running. Research Eric Berg and Darren smidtch on TH-cam. Regards
Anything will work that puts your body into stress mode-- basically to the point of you don’t like doing it. I would find an exercise that is light on the knees-- if you can get your heart rate up without using your knees then fine do it. You don’t need to run you just need to push your body. Heavy aerobics.
I wish people would go looking for new places to buy food and forage more often, and no store food at home. All we need in the house is water, coffee, tea. If you need to eat then go out and find and get it, but only enough to eat straight away or eat at home quickly and leave nothing over.
If that makes you feel better sure. I still dont get why you "wish people would go looking for new places to buy food and forage more often". Do it yourself and leave other people alone.

Hey Mark, perhaps you could also include what certain vitamins do. Yea, you probably do. Just wanted you to know that I got better teeth by adding vitamin D and a lot of greens, not calcium. After two months of vitamin D my teeth got whiter, and I'm pretty sure my cavities are healing. This was an unexpected side effect. Have you looked into that?
Hi there, for real !! I have teeth slowly decaying because of sugary foods and really don't want the dentist making unneccassary extractions and get charged the earth for this procedure. May I ask how bad were your teeth and how well did they come back. Also what brand of vitamin D ? Have a nice day
@@bradleylatham8184 Hi Bradley, nice to hear from you. Sorry about your teeth... I am not a dentist or nutritionist, so this is based on my own experience. Taking D3 and K2 gave me more enamel on my teeth, it did not fix cavities. Taking vitamin C stopped my gums from bleeding when I brushed my teeth, which also matters. Never overdo it with supplements, try to find the optimal amount you need, which of course depends on what you eat. As far as brands go I like Holistic and Great Earth, but I have tried many others. As long it's a high quality brand, you will probably be OK. If you overdose on D3 and K2 you will get painful bone spurs, which I did - twice. Avoid that. I hope this was helpful to you!
@@pianystrom8137 Hi Pia, you are correct in everybody is different needs. I found out today im celiac and lactose intolerant and eat too much sugary foods. Thanks for reply, God bless you
presjo nono, while you fast you increase growth hormone inhibiting the excretion of insulin. This makes your muscles to grow but with the right rest. Take into account that you eat in a pero or of 4 hours what you eat in the whole day. It will be around 1600kalories to get all nutrients. You can research dr Eric Berg and Dr Darren smidtch on TH-cam. Regards

They guy is looking haggard for his age. If he was 90, it would be impressive. But, his diet is probably not prime, not getting enough collagen/glycine type stuff.

David J how are you now? Have you improved? What kind of diet are you in? Ketogenic? Regards
Wow that's amazing! I would love to read a study like that!
Go a for keto diet, too-

Another reason to do this! Also found out that cancer cells thrive on sugar, and they hate fasting. Good to know.
I have lost 150 LBS with fasting and getting out away from food first thing starting my day hydrating with water and exercise phones off.
Thanks Dr Mattson, after fasting, is there limit how many calories I can eat ?
Could d-serine activate SIRT3?
What about brisk walking rather than running? Would that work? #worriedaboutknees

Vitamin D deficiency blocks the ability to absorb calcium. I hope that'll answer the question.

It is sort of funny that he never learned the correct pronunciation of autophagy. Lots of interesting info, though.
fasting is not beneficial for muscle growth.
Where on earth did he come up this theory?

Disagree with the premise. LOL "evolution". Try "epigenetics"

Yeah could be, or overdid it on the fasting. I'm all about the raw egg diet. Great for testosterone and I believe collagen too.
He runs 4 miles every day and goes on longer runs plus mountain biking on the weekend, of course he’ll be lean. Also he’s 67 years old.
Lean and mean. Keep up if you can.
he's 60, looks 40!
Nnn he looks like 90 as well as stroke like with his crooked face, grey color and greasy hair.
He looks like he's taken this fasting regime too far.
Brian Corcoran just like a great scientist
so he knows it all.... then why he looks so frail???
It may just be his phenotype. He is probably a good long distance runner.
Yes, as stated in a Tedx talk he gave, long distance runner. For 60 however, he doesn't look bad.
He's not frail. His has the body habitus of a healthy human.
