Soft spot for Mobil 1 British Rally Championship (called Rally Championship 2000 in the vid) as it was my first (and, you know, you never forget your first ;)) but it's a close tie for me between Rallisport Challenge 2 and Dirt Rally 2.
The fact, that Richard Burns Rally from 2004 is played by thousands of people today, shows, that the game is still a masterpiece. It's one of the best games I know - when it comes to the physics. It's simply amazing.
You know that thousands worldwide is absolutely noone in reality worldwide. Yes there are still people having difficulty letting go of the past but that doesn't mean they are right. ;)
@@Flaggytwell 940 million (13% of the world) do not have access to electricity. but theres also people with gaming systems like PC, Xbox and Play Station so depending if he means active players and the RBR Steam group as 1998 members, that means there are still the console players and emulators. so theres still alot of players
I still play it today. The second part is amazing and with the right emulator you can even play it in 1080p and it does look great. Even force feedback and pedals work. Love to challenge my friends for the best time :)
@@amanjentayu2732 It was, and considering its age still is. Every arcade I visited in 00s had SR2 in it. In 2022, those would be terrible graphics. In 1999, those were cutting edge graphics.
Colin McRae rally 2.0 was so much ahead of it's competition that it looked on the PS1 better than some games did on the PS2 🔥 I can't even remember how many hours I spent with that game back in the day 👌🏼
oh yes, i have it on psx and it looks like a miracle, and plays like one. First Gran Turismo and first Colin McRae Rally showed that driving can feel natural in games, GT2 and CMR 2.0 achived some goddamn eternal prefection, and both have a perfect mix of fun arcade and demanding sim (i play loads or racing/rally sims, simcades and arcades but GT2 is still my favourite game, and CMR 2.0 still favourite rally)
Have you played McRae rally 2.0 on PS1 or just on emulators/PC? That footage looked mostly from emulator and not PS1 as resolution is totally wrong and there is no any graphical glitches which PS1 is famous of. I just kindly want say.. i disagree. But I want say McRae rally was very nice looking.. though i somehow myself did prefer the first one over second one when i did play on PS1 myself when little.
PAC man rally was the absolute best game when it comes to sims. The physics and handling are so spot on and it is nothing short of a master piece and will always be remembered in gaming history as the best rally sim on the market right now. 10/10 bravo

I remember playing video games for the first time on my friend's odyssey. It was mind blowing. Then I played video games on Commodore 64 and I was like wow mind blowing. I grew up video games and home PC. It was recently I notice have not had WOW mind blowing moment. VR has the wow factor, but I am referring to consoles and computer. I was fortunate to be WOWED so many times I could not count. The 1980s had numerous wow factors. I am thankful to see the birthing of vide games and PC and the maturing process. Couple of errors here. Firstly, that wasn't the Amiga version of stunt car Racer. Looked like the spectrum version. Screamer 2 was a home computer game and as far as I'm aware was never in the Arcades. Great compilation thanks!

Holy crap... I recognize graphics and gameplay of these early rally games by the fact that they inspired so many flash racing games I used to play back in 2011-2013...
Those isometric games are usually a PITA to control, but 1993’s World Rally Championship looks like an exception, especially since they nailed the drift mechanic. It’s usually a genre I avoid but I’d love to try that one. Neo-Geo devs were brilliant!
When I started collecting arcade games World Rally Championship was one of my grails. I ended up getting a couple of them because they were cheap. Way underrated. I also bought world rally championship 2 and Mille miglia : great 100 miles rally. It's nearly the same game with vintage cars. I also bought Mille miglia 2. Its similar, but it is more zoomed in and has a lot more voice. The original is actually better. 2 is a little claustrophobic.
You forgot “Paris Dakar 90” in 1990 on MSDOS. I remember Lombard Rally to be the first rally game more than a racing game. And Colin McRae was the first game with advanced physics that were pretty impressive for its time.
Lombard RAC Rally was phenomenal, loved it and finished it in the day ❤ Slight error with Stunt Car Racer with Amiga in the corner but with ZX Spectrum looking graphics ;)
Everyone who complains today that the games are not enough simulation or don't look realistic should watch this. I lived through this times and played many of these games. And at the time we were stoked to have them.
Being a life-long "gamer," I appreciate this 'PINOCCHIO' video. I am currently perusing it/viewing it -- not so much for 'nostalgic' reasons as much as information regarding good rally games (from say about 2000-present date) that I can either buy or download for my Windows laptop... Racing games are one of my favorite genres of PC games -- have been since the 80s when I first got into gaming... "Rally racing" is a genre of real life and also PC racing that is quite distinct from most other types of racing and in some ways is the most challenging and difficult of any type of racing sim that exists...in some ways it is simultaneously the 'funnest'... I have tried some of these racing games' "demos" -featured in this video- in the past as well as full-version games. In my opinion, and perhaps the opinions of many others as well -- no "Rally Racing game" I have yet so far ever downloaded or owned comes remotely close to the realism, fun, and difficulty level of "Richard Burns Rally." When it came out in 2004, it was by far the best, hardest, and most realistic Rally game ever...as far as I can tell it still probably is 18 years later. The blokes at "Warthog games" are geniuses for coming out with such an amazing simulation... I have recently downloaded several handfuls, no less, of other full version Rally Racing PC games from sites like Abandonware (i.e., Colin McRae Rally, V-Rally, Xpand Rally, and many others) and none of them remotely compare to the realism, graphics, driving physics, etc. of Richard Burns Rally. Richard Burns Rally is also a 'bitch': It's BY FAR the most complicated PC Rally racing game ever made that I know of to learn to set up all correct and many configurations in the main menus -- and also to get the game 'drivable' at least with the keyboard...
The Network Q RAC Rally Championship was for me the first rally game on PC. At certain spots of the game I was getting only 15 frames/s, but it was great back then. Also "Screamer" PC version was great fun. Colin McRae Rally on PS1 was fun to play. Thanks nice compilation.
Everyone has their favorite, but when i played Sega Rally Championship with responding steeringwheel my soul was sold. I know a place where it still exists and time to time i have to go there and play few rounds.

This channel is much better than Game Evolutions, since it (mostly) shows every game in their correct aspect ratio and native resolutions. Game Evolutions stretches everything out to 16:9 and shows older consoles games in 4k, which is deceptive.
I just so happened was trying to remember a rally game I used to love back in the early 2000's and I remembered this video so I went through it and sure enough, you listed the two games. Xpand Rally/Xtreme omg I used to love those games. Installing now and hopefully they run on modern hardware/systems!

I used to love stunt car racer on my Amiga 500+ ☺️ Also, I can’t believe you missed off Mario Kart…. Just to note…. A lot of these games on earlier consoles looked better on the old tv… for example the game boy games are shown converted to big screen from emulators…. They didn’t look that bad on a small lcd screen on GBA…. Great vid, enjoyed watching it, thanks !!!
for me, WRC RALLY EVOLVED is the best game Rally Ever under 2010... because, if we look at the graphics and gameplay, this game is as real as the original... and for the year, this game is the best and I'm lucky to have played it and it even became my first game about rally games
I love it you included 'Art of Rally'. I really love that game. Don't let the simplistic but for me personally beautiful art style fool you. The game is difficult to master, challenging and extremely addictive.
It shows how much progress has slowed when the games from the early 200x still look decent. Edit: so if you compare 1990 with 2000 it’s a masive jump up, but 2000 to 2010 is nothing like big, and 2010 to 2020 is smaller still.
I kinda wish we could get some new simcade dirt racers. DIRT Rally and WRC cover realistic side pretty well, but if you want to play something less serious and more flashy, but still with good driving physics, your choice is either banger racing in Wreckfest, or trying to hunt CD key for DIRT 2 or 3. 15:28 I remember Xpand Rally as one of very few games not only featuring car damage, but also driver damage, making him less responsive to inputs. Severe head injury could KO you from race.
Nice, but you missed a few titles, Fatal Racing AKA Wiplash from mid 90's Test Drive Unlimited 1&2 (since you featured Forza Horizon), Colin McRae 2005 for the Nokia Ncage (well actually that one was a Low Res retextured Colin McRae 2.0) 👍

1988 lobard RAC was the first real rally game, looks pretty good! Very authentic

Q Network RAC was super fun. Time changes in 1998. Colin McRae Rally was released and it was such a good sim.

my favorites are screamer 4x4, cmr 03 & 04 (04 japan and uk rain scenes were so amazing), i'm stuck with dirt rally 2 now, thank you

I played Lombard RAC Rally on my Atari ST when it came out. That makes me feel old! Also still got the ST and it works.

I love it you included 'Art of Rally'. I really love that game. Don't let the simplistic but for me personally beautiful art style fool you. The game is difficult to master, challenging and extremely addictive.

Edit: so if you compare 1990 with 2000 it’s a masive jump up, but 2000 to 2010 is nothing like big, and 2010 to 2020 is smaller still.

I kinda wish we could get some new simcade dirt racers. DIRT Rally and WRC cover realistic side pretty well, but if you want to play something less serious and more flashy, but still with good driving physics, your choice is either banger racing in Wreckfest, or trying to hunt CD key for DIRT 2 or 3.
15:28 I remember Xpand Rally as one of very few games not only featuring car damage, but also driver damage, making him less responsive to inputs. Severe head injury could KO you from race.

Nice, but you missed a few titles, Fatal Racing AKA Wiplash from mid 90's Test Drive Unlimited 1&2 (since you featured Forza Horizon), Colin McRae 2005 for the Nokia Ncage (well actually that one was a Low Res retextured Colin McRae 2.0) 👍
Test Drive for Commodore 64, Pole Position for arcade, RC Pro-Am, Rad racer for NES to name a few of my old school faves
