Beautiful, as usual. Seems she's got some training in the past year or so. GO DESSA! Their pattern over the past two years is to release three singles, have us pay for them and then the new album comes out, with those singles. I feel like I'm getting double charged every time I buy a new album and I've already purchased three or four of the songs. Like Paper's last album. I purchased three installments at five bucks each and then he drops a physical copy with 12 of the 16 songs already in my library and charged full price for the album. I'm waiting to see if this song is on the album before I purchase this time around.
Hey Taylor, this one will be on the next album--so feel free to stream it until the record drops. For what it's worth: we try to balance release schedules so that every artist gets his or turn to put some music out when it's ready--while also trying to provide purchase options that feel fair to listeners. So, if you love having collectors' items and don't mind paying the extra few bucks (sometimes for a repeat song), that's an option. If you'd prefer to buy the songs digitally one-by-one (so you can skip duplicates) on a site like Bandcamp or iTunes, that's always an option too. And we make almost all of our music available for streaming on the very same day it's released, so you can choose to listen that way if money is tight. Don't want to gouge...but don't want to wait years between releases either. It's a balancing act between art and commerce; we try to make our decisions transparently and hope that people chose to support us.
Well thank you for responding to that Dessa. I am a long long time fan. I understand the balancing act as a musician and I appreciate you laying it out like that. I have absolutely no problem supporting you all, for sure. I've seen Doomtree (and solo) about 21 times now I think. I even purchased you a whiskey in Seattle once After reading your response I feel kind of like a dick. As a long time music collector, I suppose my issue has little to do with you as a band or how you release music but more the digital form in general. Although this is not the forum to have this long ass discussion (on my end anyhow,) I just miss hearing a single and building up anticipation for the album because I couldn't control when I heard the songs. Honestly, it didn't even occur to me to think about how releasing like you do makes it easier for people who are tight on funds and that makes perfect sense. Once again, I appreciate the response. Stay sharp, raise a blade! DOOMTREE.
This sound was amazing Dessa, and I promise that the first gig I can get in drag, this will be the song I'll lip sync to first. Some of your songs have pulled me out from the darkest days of my life, and all I can say is thank you for being an artist, and making these wonderful, beautiful and yet sad songs that resonate with so many people because we have all been there. I shall always be your fan, and one of these days I'll get out to Minneapolis and see you and your crew live, hopefully see you at the merch booth, and be able to ask yah where you got your shoes.
Love your work Dessa. Please, keep up the good work. Nothing like listening to your music and working on art, you have a talent to unlock my Flow-State when I illustrate. Much appreciated.
Who do I have to pay to get Florence Welch to cover this? Scratch that. Who do I have to pay to get Flo and Dessa to collab on something? I would die in the wake of all that absolute glory. But what a way to go.
Sure she does her own stunts, even going head first into the deep snow... yet could not be the monumental stone architectural facade she presents and still have such a soft heart inside.
It's been 4 days since I first heard this and I'm pretty sure at least 1k of the views on it are from me lmao I've basically been listening to this and Xanthrax on repeat the whole time.
Sometimes art and circumstance are in perfect harmony. I hope one day I'll be able to thank Dessa for everything she's done for me over the years
Been saying it for years, Dessa is the most underrated artist in any genre of music.
"It's a relief when it goes wrong." Real. Your music never disappoints, Dessa.
This song gets more amazing every time I listen to it. Holy shit.
This song never fails to give me chills.
Top 5 modern female artists, easy. Goes from serene singing to straight rapping without missing a beat. Love it.
SlackerKite Top 5 modern artists period tbh
Lauryn Hill
I desperately need a new Dessa album in my life.
It's not far away...

Superb, the lady keeps gettin' stronger!
Oh man, I noticed this just in time to watch it on my last break on the graveyard shift... Good end to the night.
Dessa is amazing. Somehow she always manages to cut straight to the core. Perfect.
Her and Amanda Palmer are the two artists whose lyrics and music I find to be truly transformative. Absolutely masterful.
If you haven't already check out Nova Rockefeller .... th-cam.com/video/hDg36Dga1F8/w-d-xo.html
