I have learned more about how to play Cody from studying this video than I have in the year that I've been playing the game. Momochi is just incredible.
yo, it's been eight months already after i left this comment? my Cody improved hugely and i switched him with Sagat to be my main. still much to learn though :) and yeah, momochi is still my favourite player :D
Momochi is as freaking beast and his Cody is the best that I've seen thus far. However, Sasaki has a very good Cody as well. I've notice during one part of this video - Momochi had racked up 31+ straight kills.
the knife is pretty good for pressure. once your opponent takes the chip of 3 or 4 jabs low kick into mk ruffian, which i think is not punishable from that range, they get reckless and more urgent to knock the knife out of your hand. I find it especially usefull to space them out with it after i got a healthy lifelead. and some seem to forget that cody still has his overhead with the knife, so you can catch people off guard with it.
But in a highly competitive fight it would be stupid to give up control of your space and the situation to go get the knife, and cody does more damage with those linked medium punches so the situation where the knife gives u an advantage are rare
It's a niche strategy though. Cody's strength is in momentum and stun. By picking up the knife, you slow him down dramatically and disable his frametraps from his normals, which are among the best in the game, and by far his best weapon.
I wouldn't say it's unreliable. People have found it to be useful in certain situations. Not only does it do chip damage, but it increases his poke range.
Pie chin has a really amazing Cody and his knife play its no joke, the only Cody player that can win a match with the knife in hand. Momochi's Cody was the best out there but ill will love to see a mirror match between Pie chin's Cody vs momochi's Cody... Any thoughs on that people..
I think it's an unblockable. Can only be done if you push your opponent into the corner with EX ruffian kick. I've done it tons of times and noones been able to block it.
Yea Momochi! Stand in front of people and spam jab wiffs then make them regret hitting any kind of button.. Hahaa... Make them feel like fools. (never grab tech against momochi either, there are worse things in the world then being thrown... above are some examples)

the knife has good application for pokes and you can combo from it lp to cr lk cu or throw to a ruffian kick or ultra 1

Yes, Cody's HP (jump forward) can cross up if done right. It's especially useful in the corner as Cody don't move from the wall.

Exactly, Can be avoided completely by just neutral standing. However this can be mixed up with MK making it a true 50/50
