The '98 Porsche GT1 remains one of my favorite cars of all time

Mercedes knew they were up against a quick car and replaced the V12 GTR with the lighter V8 LM. If they didn't come up with that evolution, Porsche could very well have been the '98 champions. All of the German machines of this period are still some of the best looking cars we've seen. Porsche remains one of the top sports car manufacturers of race-winning machines.

Amazing series, amazing cars. And to think, FIA WEC is coming back to these type of production-based cars in 2021....

I really hope the Hypercars have some of that same magic that GT1 had back in the day

@@downnice95 Well, 2023 is shaping up to be a good year, the two classes are Le Mans Hypercar and Le Mans Hypercar Daytona. The manufacturers between the two series are; Porsche, Cadillac, BMW, Acura, Ferrari, Alpine, Toyota, Glickenhaus and Peugeot.

@@bman6198 It was a bit later that expected, but now we're about to enter an era that can hopefully compare to the late '90s GT1 and the late '80s early '90s Group C. These are powerhouse manufactures who have put in time and research to produce this next generation of world class sportscars. With Lamborghini scheduled to join the fight in 2024, it could be a massive fight ahead.

@@bman6198The new HyperCars are cool. But I don’t think they can compare to GT1.

Given that it only opened in July 1997, Oschersleben must have been a very significant track when it opened, given its proximity to Magdeburg in the former East Germany

Not a terrible track. But doesn't suit these type of GT cars. Always seemed more of a DTM/Touring car kinda track.

These gt cars needed longer tracks! This is one of the short tracks of Europe. Touring car track for sure.

Loved seeing these cars again, I think the race commentary was awful.
