"Now a man must choose; whether to forgive, or to avenge. To love, to hate. To live, to die. To be, or not, to be..." Some say hamlet is still in Denmark, thinking things over.
No. Hamlet is not still in Denmark. I live in Denmark. And I haven´t seen him.
@@jakobagerskov2406 Shut up.
The first Shakespeare movie I saw as a kid and I still enjoy it.
Amo esta película.
Me too, but it doesn’t seem easy to get-at least digitally.
Same !
I know. Mine too. I was about 15 or 16 when I saw this.
Long story short, earlier that year "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" was shown in the theaters but I missed it (thank gawd for Costner's awful accent). But around September I told myself I'm not going to miss this because I love anything medieval. But when I saw it I was lost due to its language and somewhat unusually "boring" pace. Mind you, this was before I ever knew Shakespeare. But when most of the principal characters died at the end, I was intrigued. I mean what led them to their death? So I researched and thus my love for the Bard grew ever since.
So this was my initiation to Shakespeare.
It's still the best
perhaps one of the best adaptations for a work of Shakespeare, that reflects all drama, intrigue and especially madness, of the original masterpiece, in middle of a enviroment full of betrayal, the things never ends good, but some not accept the heinous reality of that, they act without thinking before, and only bring more pain with a lot of tragic consequences, a esplendid work, unforgettable, with the perfect cast for this legendary history.
Glenn Close should have been nominated for Oscar for this.. Mel. Gibson even more so
Mel Gibson is my favourite actor as Hamlet. This is an amazing film.
I really liked this adaption, it's played pretty straight and remembers that above all Shakespeare wrote to ENTERTAIN with gripping characters and plot.
Need this on blu ray. This popped up in my mind when I remember watching it as a kid.
This is the film that started my love and obsession for Shakespeare as a teenager.
Now, when will it be released on Blu-ray?
Remy Azhary Yosef does this follow the book
@@christinasmith4417 It had the basic storyline. But it was primarily "adapted" from the play. So they took creative licenses to change the narrative. But to me, it authenticity came from its settings like production design and costume which gave the movie/play that medieval feel to it.
Doubt...
It was the first film I have seen with Mel Gibson, and in my opinion he is the best actor and director in the world. Now I am waiting for The Resurrection movie.
A first-rate excellent rendition of a great play. Bravo! Perfecto! Gibson's Hamlet is second to none.
It would be great if Danny Glover was in it as well 🤣
@@seekforjannah2432 He was getting too old for this kind of thing.
Saw this in the same theater that I saw Bravheart in. It was before Imax, and it was when giant screens were just part of the movie going experience, if you picked the right theater. Braveheart became my favourite movie of all time, and still is, and Hamlet with Mel Gibson and the rest of the cast, truly unforgettable in their wonderful performances.
My favorite version of Hamlet.
Dillon August mine the leon king
Mine was when Candice played Ofelia
Fabulous film!!!
See this with Franco Zeffirelli's other Shakespeare movies "Taming of the Shrew" 1967 and of course "Romeo and Juliet" 1968!
This Hamlet is a MASTERPIECE!
Truly love all three films. That guy knew how to make Shakespeare for film.
This version of Hamlet is more than a great piece of work if you obseve closely you'll realize how the major arcanes are described in
scene.
To be or not to be, that is the question !
To have or not to be. That is true the question!
To endure the slings and arrows of life
Heard that in Adam Sandler's voice.
When tuning a guitar and coming to the second string, a choice must be made. 2 B or not 2 B, that is the question. Don't even get me started on the third string, especially if it breaks, because a broken G string is always embarrassing.
Gibson did a great job
He is the best Hamlet!
Agree
No Joe did
Gibson always does a good job
@@NoIdea68 absolutly rigth!!!
What a cast.
Mel Gibson comes of age! Hamlet was produced by Franco Zeffirelli, the same guy who did Romeo and Juliet 22 years earlier. Great color! Grays and browns of the Middle Ages! Biographies of William Shakespeare are sketchy. He was born in 1564 in Stratford-on-the-Avon, 100 miles from London. The Avon is a river. Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway and fathered 3 children. He moved to London and established himself as a playwright, staging plays at the Globe. Hamlet is the strongest, written in 1601. It deals with insanity and revenge. Hamlet puts on an antic disposition to delay avenging his father's murder. The real issue is death! Why do we die? Why live at all if we must die? Shakespeare died in 1616 at age 52. His 37 plays divide into tragedies, comedies, histories & problem plays.
I think I remember Mel Gibson Accurately.
Classic Mel
Glenn Close was amazing as Gertrude.
She was only 9 years older than Mel
i just watched !!!!!! reaaaally great movie!!!!

@@rakibhasansumon8222 I downloaded from pirates bay 😊😊😊
No one's going to tell this sweet prince good night!
Mad Max Does Denmark
You ever wonder why we're here? That is the question... (RvB)
I remember loving this movie, and feeling it superior to Olivier's.
The Lion King
You're lion.
"Well I remember Mel Gibson accurately and he didn't say that. That Polonius guy did."
When tuning a guitar and coming to the second string, a choice must be made. 2 B or not 2 B, that is the question. Don't even get me started on the third string, especially if it breaks, because a broken G string is always embarrassing.
You should read "Philosophy in Hamlet" to understand Shakespeare's Hamlet.
I liked this version. I find it anywhere
Great movie!!!!
Fantastic
Normally I don't watch Shakespeare movies but this one it's a very good.
Mel Gibson legand actor. Brave heart one of the best movie in world.
Tarantino quiere cargarse esto, quiere hacer su propia versión de Hamlet, estoy totalmente en contra, para mí Mel Gibson será el mejor Hamlet del cine
I truly love this film, especially since it was directed by the same director that directed my favorite version of Romeo and Juliet (the 1968 version)
Spot on!
They're both Carmina Burana but my god that transition is just way too sudden 0:18
All 1990s period pieces have to have a bad Carmina Burana, it's mandatory.
@@JulianEmdon Didn't it start with Excalibur, then later Glory and yeah, the list got big.
I think this film was Gibsons film school to do Braveheart
Pretty good. Very entertaining performance.
Gw tertarik Ama film nya makasi Hyung 😀
absolutely losing it at the use of O Fortuna as the soundtrack for the trailer
Same here
And American narrator...
@@sanjamatsuri should the narrator be french? 😂
0:39 cannibalism
Love it!!
Pls Pls upload the full film please
What do you call a ham and cheese omelet but without the cheese and extra ham? A hamlet 😂
Mel Gibson would be a perfect director for a Robin Hood film
But could he do an English accent?
Cum se numeste melodia de pe fundalul filmului?
Mel looks exactly like Andre Agassi here
Link of full version?
Fairly Odd Parents brought me here
WTF?! How?
Its mad max without guns
Will there be a sequel?
I guess you missed the end. It was my first "tragedy" and I had no idea a story cold do that to an entire cast. I learned.
Why is Hamlet almost the same age as his mother??? In most versions.
Yeah, they should cast a younger prince Hamlet...
But his mother was a Middle Age queen 👑🏰
she could be only 15 -18 yo when Hamlet was born
so 35- 38 yo she's an old lady 😅
They used to call it acting.
Hamlet and haider...is love.🤣😍😍😍
The Best Hamlet Ever.
best movie eever
OMFG! YEEESSSS!!!!!!!!
One of the best movie inspired from hamlet "Haider".
name of the song please, loved the song
Carmina Burana
O’Fortuna
To be or not to be.... Hamlet
In about 20 seconds in what is the name of that music score ?
Carmina Burana - O Fortuna. Written around or during WW2, so while Glenn Miller was hopping it up in the US, this is what was going on in Germany. The guy who wrote it is actually far more famous for his teaching method of grade school music. Or for what he did to his servants when a certain leader took over his country.
What do you call an omelet without cheese and just ham? A Hamlet 😆
What's the name of the song?
O Fortuna
Soundtrack?
You know Tropic Thunder and that part when they have trailers for other movies ie for Kirk Lazarus epic medieval drama , well this kinda reminds me of that 😁
Movie trailers were often like this in the nineties
You could argue if modern trailers generally are better than those like this but I personally prefer this
@@pog428 yes, exactly that
To have or to have-not...
Song?
Carmina Burana - O Fortuna.
How is the name of the song?
Martina Kaspin O Fortuna.
+Martina Kaspin carmina burana
O Fortuna from Carl Orff's "Carmina burana" cantata
The girl Looks like the queen on rasputin movie
What’s the name of the opera song on 0:56
O fortuna
It's from Carmina Burana - and as pointed out this section is O fortuna.
I swear this could be an SNL parody of a Hamlet blockbuster film trailer.
Why?
I did not like him when I saw Mell playing He became Hamelet
Apart from, imo, the only possible person of her generation to play Ofelia, this Hamlet sucks but so did Oliviers, so in good company there. But why do they continue to speak the soliloquies aloud in most films, when in film it would be easy show them in their thoughts and the voice heard as if their thoughts? In theater that is impossible but in films it would be self-evident.
It was written to be spoken aloud so it's being faithful in doing so. That's good enough reason it is not?
+eppurs1muove Huh? Get thee to a nunnery as the lady doth protest too much.
MasKistershi Certainly NOT. It is spoken aloud of course when recorded but the film should just show the face reflecting those inner thoughts. It's a soliloquy, not a monologue. Orson Welles did this, and so did the praised (by among others, Olivier) Russian version of Hamlet, which had a bit of dream team with Pasternak's translation and Shostakovich' music. (I'm not Russian myself, but those two Hamlet-like artists are among the better things to have come from there) .
+eppurs1muove NO, the film should show the actor speaking aloud as that is what is done during a play, if you wish to be true to reality. Hamlet played by Gibson is perfect and Welles and Olivier would agree. ; > /
Then all films should also be performed on a stage, which is not done here. It is done however with impressive results in eg. Olivier's Henry V.
It looks. Clever. violet discover What do you think, guys?
school assignment here
where can i watch it online?
This came out in 1990 and then four years later it came out again but this time with animals
Not to be!.........
A "Hollywoodian" version by the square and "cry now" cinema of Zefirelli with, of course, a star cast.
?
The trailer frames it more like a comedy, rather than the tragedy it is. Meh.
Oh it's not a comedy but there are jokes in it, like there are in most Shakespeare plays.
The castle isn't even the right one. Not even the right age design. The original poem is set in Kronborg castle in Elsinore / Helsingør.
Wow, that's horrible.
A bit hammy.
I thought it was kosher.
Es buena pero prefiero la de Kenneth branagh
Hamlet is a story that intellectual people with nothing to do like.
So says the Philistine.
Many people loved to visit them in Sodom and Gomorrah. Maybe you ?
As if that it is a bad thing. Intellectual people deserve down time too, and why not catch a great movie while relaxing. Sounds perfect.
Utterly ruined by the music. Proper cheese
Carmina Burana la fortuna 💛💙❤️🤔💛
