Thank you so much! It keeps a little bit of summer here at the farm, through these long cold winters. Thanks for watching and you have a great weekend as well!
You folks are just so amazing! Look at all those wonderful plants growing on in there! That Swiss Chard shonuff kick'n chick'n! This folks is how you Git-R-Done!! Thanks for the info and tour my awesome friend! Hope you and the family has a great rest of the week / weekend!
Thank you my friend! Yes, a little bit of sunshine, and I mean a little bit, makes a huge difference. The lights are really helping as well! Thanks for the continued kind words and sticking with us! You two are just amazing friends!!
Nice! I've harvested my 1st hydroponic spinach last week and the swiss chard is up this week, so its good to see i can just harvest them like spinach basically and let new leaves grow. (small scale setup in my basement for private use) Love your videos, you guys encouraged me to try hydroponics! Best regards from the Netherlands!
This is so great to hear!! We always have a hard time with spinach, I would love to see pics of your operation! You can follow us on our Spring Hill Farms Facebook page if you would like and send us your pics. We would love to see them!
@@Growwiththelaplantes Thanks for your reply! I've already been following you guys on Facebook too haha. This is my first time trying hydroponics and my setup is really small and a bit messy still. I'm going to rework it next month when I have a week off. But still haven't decided how or with what lights (CFL or LED). I will send a picture when I'm done with that. And as if the gods were listening, the spinach died off. Maybe nutrient salt buildup as I've seen white flecks in the water which are not algue. My goal is to grow vegetables that are not available in the supermarkets.
Hi, you guys are great. I have a question. When seeding Bright Lights Swiss Chard in the oasis cubes do you use one seed or multiple seeds? I see Johnny’s sells these seeds as Pelleted and normal, so I was confused. I saw your other video where you talked about seeding 2-3 Swiss Chard seeds then pulling the weaker ones out when transplanting to the finishing channels. So I was wondering if it is the same for this varsity. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
It would great if you guys did a series of videos and just discussed one topic per video. For example, this video could just discuss swiss chard, and again, a separate video for dill, basil, and/or herbs. Particularly, hydroponic cucumbers have different nutrient and growth needs, so discussing all the other different veggies separately would be very useful and a great time saver = more viewers.
In the 80's I studied herbal med from a Russian orthodox monk... The joke was, What's the difference between parsley and xxxxx? ... No one eats parsley.
I love your beautiful bok choy and swiss chard. After thinking for a while about the lights and how high Wayne want to put the supplemental lights in the winter would work with much stronger balance led lights like the lights that MIgardener was gifted you might check out his video(s) he has setting up those lights.I believe in his grow room the lights (which are much stronger than what you used_ what do you think Wayne. Love your great job you are doing with your hydroponic grow.
Awesome video as usual. Was wondering if you might give some idea how much to charge for the different products you offer like a head of lettuce or a bunch of living herbs. Love your channel you guys are great !!!
Thanks! We charge anywhere $3.00 - $4.00 per head of lettuce. The romaine and Muir when large are $4.00. And living bunches of herbs are $3.00 Thanks for watching!
Hi happy Sunday. Can you tell me what type of led lights you used in your hydro lettuce house? I'm wanting to get some of the same lights. Thanks n keep up great work. Farm on!!
Great to see you back on the channel! Can you tell us how you pack this for retail? I find it goes limp rather quick esp. in summer months. I just bunch it, tie with an elastic band and stand the ends in a bucket of water on our stall but then the lovely colored stalks don’t get seen very well.
Great question! We don't tie it, we place it in a 10 lb poly bag for 1/2 lb of swiss and a 12 lb poly bag for 1 l lb bag of swiss, we do not tie bags of swiss, so they are open at top. We keep the bagged swiss in rubber made totes until market time. Be sure to keep them in a cooler system until market and keep them out of direct sun through market. Keep your tent directed to keep sun out.
Oh my!! We sell ours in 1/2 lb "untied" bags for $3.50. This allows the swiss chard to be compacted into a tote. Always remember to keep it In a cooler or cool place until you deliver to market. It's up to the customer to keep it out of the sun and as cool as possible after that. If you are reimbursing them, you are now growing beautiful produce and making nothing! That's not fair to yourself.
And I should mention that we use 10lb poly bags. Just put your swiss in neatly with stems all in the same direction. It really bothers me that you are reimbursing!
How do you keep your cut chard from wilting when you bring it to the market? I tried cutting it and bagging it like you did and they just wilted. I started selling the whole plant instead, but I have to make sure I wrap the roots in a wet paper towel and plastic bag to make sure they stay perky. Thanks!
We just bag and leave the top of the bag open and put them into covered totes until ready to put out on the tables. Always keep them out of the sun and you should be fine. By harvesting the entire plant, you are slowing down production. Just keep cutting.
You mentioned the way you advise the eating of Swiss Chard. In my family we eat the stem as well. If larger we cut up as in "julienne carrots" and steam and spin with a small knob of butter at finish.... and I do mean small.
New subscriber here. Love your videos! Where do you buy your troughs? I’ve looked at alibaba but the MOQ is expensive. Would like to use a US company instead. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Great videos thank you for sharing, it seems from your comments you can’t grow enough of everything will you build another hydroponic greenhouse to meet the demand or is that prohibitive?
We plant 2 per cube in the winter and 1 per cube in the summer. 2 per cube in "our" winter months helps with the plant stand straight in our winter months with lack of growth. You may want to play with this as you don't get our cold temperatures. I hope this makes sense.
@@Growwiththelaplantes Thank you, I also have herbs Oregano, Parsley and Dill, have you tried Spinach Beet? and also the shocker Red Cabbage, which is the fastest growing for me here in the UK, perfect for pickling.
Hey guys just wondering I’ve been growing Swiss chard all year around, my question is pH level I guess you gotta keep the pH level a little higher around 6.5 to 7? I feel as though if I keep the ph too low the outside leaves grow but the middle leave will start to harden
I was looking at Johnny's for dill (Teddy I think). What variety did you get, and do you find it's worth growing so far? By the way, your videos are always what I look forward to most every week, definitely inspiring.
Awww, thank you for the kind words, it means alot to know we are of help ❤ we plant the dill variety "BOUQUET " we are very pleased with it's growth. I wish you all the best and thank you so much for watching. Patti

Yes, we eat the stem as well but when we use the leaves as wraps we take the stem off.

Thank you,
Yes, we are planning on expanding.
how many seeds are going in oasis cube for the parsley and dill? 10 approx? those herbs looks great. thanks for the video.
The parsley and dill cubes, we plant approximately 6- 8 seeds give or take.
Thanks so much for watching!
how many cubes per hole? sorry for all the questions.
@@caseywilson812Never apologize for asking questions! That is what we are here for. We find it best to put 2 cubes per hole.
Love me some swiss chard
It's definitely one of my new favorites!
do you open up one side of the greenhouse during the day?
We open both front and back doors at this time, and when temperatures rise we open the roll ups on both sides as well as back panel windows.
What material are the trays?
What EC do you feed them?
How do you seed? 2 or 3 seed per oasis cube?
We plant 2 per cube in the winter and 1 per cube in the summer. 2 per cube in "our" winter months helps with the plant stand straight in our winter months with lack of growth. You may want to play with this as you don't get our cold temperatures. I hope this makes sense.
It does, thank you.
Do you have any water temperature problems with your hydro system
No, we cover our tank in the summer to shade it and fill our barrels before hand in the winter to bring the water closer to room temperature.
