  • Another project completed to make my life a little easier maintaining the property. I'll be uploading a start to finish slide show of this build along with a working video of me using it for what I designed it for.

Thanks much for the video. You have great ideas. I might have added a hydraulic tilt, but by gosh this looks GREAT.

Nice job only recommendation would be to switch to the heavier brush hog deck. The one with the large plug on top. Great job

Looks good ! You do need to reposition your driveshaft ujoints so they are in phase , both joints on the shaft need to be positioned so the crosses are lined up

Good job. You gave me several ideas to build one similar to this. I’ve got an old 72” Scag turf tiger deck that came off an old mower we had that pumps and the motor through a rod. I keep everything, just for parts or making something new out of.
I think on mine, I’ve got an old prince hydraulic pto pump that I’m going to run to a hydraulic motor. On the motor it has plenty of torque, but 1:1 for input speed. On the output shaft of the motor, I have an old 30” double groove cast pulley to get the speed I need and running that into a double groove 4” pulley.
On the beam, I’m going to put a hydraulic cylinder inside the tube and sleeve it so it will expand out mowing around the pond. May even try to build a way to make deck tilt up and down so I can mow pond and small limbs that stick in the driveway. Using hydraulic tank as counter weight and will use a swivel guide wheel on both sides to help stabilize it

Thank you and it sounds like a great plan you have. Looking back on it going with hydraulic power would have been better and I could still go that route at a later point. You are right about using a counter weight to offset the mower head.....still need to do that to mine.

Good job. This is somewhat of a rare homemade tool build, and it came out nice. Feel free to embed your video on our homemade tools forum; looks like you're one of us :-)

That is very nice I need one to mow my bank in front of my house it takes me two hours to weed-eat it to steep to cut with a riding mower. that would sake a lot of time and strained back.

Thank you, I'll be putting up a video of it actually cutting over the weekend......I'm very pleased with how it turned out and what I forgot toention is that the cutter head swivels to match the surface you're cutting which is a huge bonus.

Great way to re-purpose and old Gravely. Those were some pretty tough rough terrain mowers. Does it have a fold-back feature or have you considered including one? Might be nice if you ever used it to trim around fences or other objects.

Thanks Jerry, no it doesn't have the ability to fold back and really couldn't with the original belt drive system. I have made some cool up grades to the unit which I'll post a new video soon. The next up grade is going to be hydraulic powered instead of belt drive.

Watched this for the second time. I would ask does this have Lawnmower blades on it or brush cutter bars. And replace your tire with a never flat brush cutter back wheel and build these and sell them. I would buy one tomorrow if you did. I have the same issue. Brush with some small rocks added in.

Thank you so much for checking this out and yes like all one off / homemade pieces there is room for improvement. I have already made some modifications to this sense last season and will post a video soon. Again, thank you for the recommendation.
