I bought my first can today, ordered it through silencer shop. I went to the store I marked as my dealer to get help on what to do next and buy some mags, they told me to wait for an email confirmation and then I’ll come in to get the rest of the paperwork done? I filled out the parts of the registration I could but I can’t do my fingerprints or anything… I’m sure I’m just being impatient but what confirmation is the dealer talking about? I got my order number and confirmation for my purchase, I just want to know what the deal is for my wait?
Does this apply in California?
Yes.
Does the approval process require selection of a specific suppressor?
Yes, because whatever suppressor you choose, that serial number for that specific suppressor will be assigned to you.
Yes, as stated by @mrfaceforest , The suppressor has to be assigned to you. You can create your account with ATF and SilencerShop before hand, but the actual approval process cannot start until there is a serial number to be assigned to you.
so I did my purchase 4/1 they had the can in stock, did the silencer shop process fingerprints, photo and what not.. called yesterday 4/9 because I have not seen anything show up on my ATF account or silencershop.. they told me that SilencerShop is actually delaying processing from LGS that are selling thier own suppressors insted of buying one from SS.. is having to wait up to 2 weeks or more to get your email from the ATF normal or am I getting hosed?
That would be news to us. There is usually a week to two before you can certify. Before the fast approval times, you would have to wait 9-18 months after certification to get approval. Now, we are seeing some people getting 1-3 day approvals after they certify.
To our knowledge, the certification wait times are about the same, 1-2 weeks, but the approval wait times are substantially faster.
@@Rainierarms and the "certification" is the Email from the ATF and you DocuSign correct?
@@billylake5999 You will get an email from SilencerShop saying that your application/can is ready to be certified. You'll then need to contact/visit your FFL to complete the certification steps. After that is complete, the ATF will then start its approval process. This approval process is what usually takes 9-18 months but is now taking days for some people.
Got the email and went in and used my pin and user name.. on the 12th.. life is good now we just wait. Thankbyou for making this easy to understand
