I feel like I need to add a comment after completing this video. I know for me that being on my bicycle is a great form of therapy where I can get immersed in my thoughts as I'm riding. Playing music is another therapy that I have. I hope your trip continues to provide therapy for you as you deal with your loss. Thanks for being so open with us!
Thanks for your support - cycling is for sure an excellent form of therapy. Were I not out here, I would definitely be doing some outdoors activity every day. Sweating, moving the body, being in nature - it all goes a long way.
Flat tires are not very therapeutic though. Been following your travels. Really enjoy your low key style. What brand are you eyeglasses? Very cool frames. Stay safe.
However much or however little you choose to share your grief is the right amount. Thanks for trekking through our state, and I hope you're able to make it back sometime; there's a lot more to see!
I'm so grateful you are choosing to allow people to see you grieve/be vulnerable and also to acknowledge that honoring someone also means to continue living well (& processing/dealing/etc.). Much love and happy riding/adventuring!! p.s. take all the sponges you want!
Excellent episode! You managed everything with such decorum and thoughtfulness. It is such a pleasure to follow along on your journey!! Thanks to the yt algorithms 🎉🎉Thanks for taking the time and effort to share with us!!! Look forward to seeing what you get up to the rest of the adventure. Safe travels! Best, Rob
Great videos man! If your loved one would have wanted you on the trail I say that is the best decision to honor them. I know if it were me I'd want you to finish and enjoy the trip! Look forward to watching the rest :)
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Thank you for sharing that. Most people will understand that we all process grief differently. I know a comment from a random follower on TH-cam (myself) doesn't carry much weight, but I appreciate you taking us all on this adventure. Bicycle TH-cam is a great community.
Hey, thanks for taking the time to comment. I wouldn't know that people out there are paying attention unless people (like you) commented about it - so in that regard, carries a lot of weight. Thanks so much for your support!
Sorry for your loss. I stayed in Ash Grove in 2018. It was a terrific place and the townspeople were very upbeat about hosting bike tourists. What a shame they decided to stop.
I think you are doing the right thing by going on. I'm enjoying your journey. Hopefully, I''ll be coming over from Japan to ride coast to coast next summer.
Condolences on your loss. I can imagine how hard it is for you especially out on the road but you are quite an inspiration to me and I imagine others. I've enjoyed your journey and even though it appears they may be your first effort on TH-cam it is quite well done. Good luck on your journey! Oh yeah, I was hoping to visit with you when you went through Kansas but you were through before I knew it but given the circumstances I completely understand.
Thanks so much for your kind words - enjoying exploring this new form of expression and it's very meaningful to hear that you've been inspired! That's the whole point of making stuff, imo.
Great work my friend! You’re doing great and in my opinion you’re kicking ass across this country. Much love from a fellow tourist! I’m in Texas now headed west!
Sorry for your loss man, the silver lining about bereavement is that material luxury seems to lose its merit and you can easily pitch a tent in a ditch on the side of a random corn field and eat an MRE and it will feel like a five star resort. Don't hesitate to take the video series into 100% ASMR, no narration, if that's what feels right. Just let the trip unfold.
I was an EMT in a rural state. I understand the rumble strip, as sleepiness is a definite risk for serious MVCs. The distance between towns means people think little about driving several hours to and from, say a HS sport event. Yes, those strips are a PITA, literally on a bike. But there is a legitimate purpose to them. (addition) I'm sorry for the loss you suffered. I know it's a cliche, but there are really few rights/wrongs about grieving. Every person has a unique relationship with those we know....so it makes sense that we honor the person we knew, in the way we knew them. I imagine you have many memories surface as the miles go beneath your wheels. What better elegy could there be?
Nothing wrong with rumble strips except their placement in the middle of the shoulder. Cyclists would really appreciate them close to the fog line (white line), leaving more of the shoulder available for bicycles and pedestrians.
Ah yeah @somedudebiking, that's the finer point that I didn't really articulate clearly in the moment. A good rumble strip on the line actually helps me feel safer as I can hear when someone has crossed it. It's just the placement that's a bit of an issue in certain areas.
I was going to make a joke about how the correct pronunciation of Missouri is actually misery, but it seems in poor taste now. You have my condolences. When my dad passed away in ‘23 miles on my bike was the best form of therapy. God speed.
@@somethinglikebike I’m glad that I didn’t miss it. I love old Cannondales. I have built up a couple. I even have a 1997 R800 in near-mint condition. It’s fast, but super-twitchy. Too bad you are likely not coming through Memphis. I would love to buy you lunch.
you can clip your dry bag underneath your rack so you don't lose it you can try warmshowers for accommodation alternatives (assuming there were no airbnbs either)
I have been so completely enjoying your videos and was sadden to hear of your loss. Being out in God's creation might be just the place to start processing your grief and remembering all the wonderful times. Safe travels.
Congrats - you pronounced Cassoday correctly! The rail line that goes through there is the southern transcontinental line for the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe railroad. Double tracks most of the way, very busy. But I guess you found that part out on your own!
Such a special, beautiful tribute.
Such a beautiful tribute….❤

I’m just 30 seconds in and your comment made me want to comment and watch the rest of the video. 😊

My condolences for your loss of a cherished family member. Keep them in your thoughts and enjoy your journey as best you can. Cheers! Great video.

So sorry. But your video will be a blessing to anyone who is grieving or has grieved. Ride well. RIP Ken Renly.

I just stumbled across the videos. I love the Cannondale. Simple. V-brakes, too.
Is there a bike check on one of the videos?
Not yet, maybe I'll do some gear related videos when I'm back. The bike has been a dream out here, though.

The thought about the dry bag clip is genius. Thanks for pointing that out!

Ah, I was wondering about that pronunciation for a good 100 miles. Thanks for the local insight. Indeed - very busy rail area!
