Thanks for hooking up wit Mat, tried to cross his path in Nebraska. Met him on the gdmbr my place trail angel, didn't know him otherwise, and then found his channel. Funny part he remembered me with a school bus property.
It was a really enjoyable day getting to ride with him and John. If/when he gets back the US, we've left it open to reconnect and adventure together a bit. He's nearing the end of his trip now. - what memories he has to be making! Thank you for watching and for dropping a comment.
Thank you for watching and for commenting as it helps the channel grow. Yes - it was really cool to have Mat riding so close to home that I was not going to miss the opportunity to meet up with him. Great guy for sure.
@@bikesandbeyond618 I felt your melancholy-ness leaving Mat. Glad you guys are staying in touch. I'm just a part time rider myself but I'd rather watch these videos than watch TV. I really enjoy them. Now to watch your quick chat with Duzer. (who seems to have disappeared lately). Be well! Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Why thank you so much! Yes, extremely fortunate to have the extensive rail trails network and miles of open, mostly flat countryside in Illinois. Really neat day riding with Mat for sure. Thanks for watching and for dropping the comment. Please subscribe for more to come.
Caroline! So nice to "meet" you! You absolutely got a mention. It's hard enough to work the camera and drone while riding - much less surfing the internet looking for good places to stay! If he does another US adventure again (maybe the whole Katy Trail), I'd love to tag along with him for sure.
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing. I can tell you he definitely knows what spoiled rotten means. I used to watch him sitting on his throne, eating his fillet steak through the window while I was outside in the rain eating my gruel, when we were kids.
Thank you very much for watching, dropping a comment, and most of all for subbing! Had a great day with Mat for sure! His latest video came out today - Katy trail - so cool.
On behalf of this Army and Air Force veteran with 52 years of cycling, you make us proud the way you showed Mat such hospitality. I hope he finds more trails for safety, peace and quiet. I shall like and Subscribe to you. Thanks. Frank.
Frank - thank you so much for the kind words (and for watching & subscribing!). I assured Mat he would be hard-pressed to find any unfriendly people as he crossed the Midwest - it's just how most of are - and Mom always stressed the importance of being kind! Looking forward to his video version of our ride together - which should be coming soon.... Thank you for your service to our great country as well. Cheers!
I've been waiting for Matt's next video.. good to see he's doing good, I've been following him on his TransAm adventure, you and the rest of the American people are very accommodating, I too found this out a few years ago when I visited the USA. You make us feel welcome.. thank you
thanks so much for watching and taking a minute to comment. It means a lot. Glad to hear you felt welcome in visiting the US. Mat sure seems to be having a good time on his adventure across the country.
I'm glad there is a bike lane on that bridge coming across the Mississippi. I'm planning a Katy trail trip and might use that bridge to get to the Alton Amtrak, so i'm glad i got to see it from the POV of a bike. Cool you guys were able to meet up!
When are you looking at riding the Katy? Yes - the bridge bike lane was a welcomed thing for sure. Just beware of the debris, sharp trash, and general trash that settles there. Without a doubt this is where I picked up the wire that caused two punctures on the day. Thank you for watching and for dropping a comment. Love your videos as well! Take care. Happy riding!
Thank you for watching and for dropping in a comment! Sharing the video of our brief time together was the easy part for sure - my pleasure. Hopefully you get to connect with him as well. Really good guy and a fun time no less.

@@elzabethmorgan8020 so glad you watched and subscribed too. Thank you so much. More videos to come for sure. Maybe not big adventures like Mat just yet…but we shall see.
Pro tip. Cover the hole in the tire with a dollar bill (Or a piece of tyvek). That hole will chew away at the tube as you ride. The $ will keep you from getting those annoying repeat flats. Good on you for riding with Mat.
thanks for the pro tip. post-ride I discovered yet another piece of wire/debris jammed in a different spot on the tire that worked its way into the replacement tube. All ended well and I have the bike set up tubeless for future adventures already. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
@@bikesandbeyond618 By sheer coincidence I had the same problem last week. Those wires are filaments usually from retread truck tires. And, by the way, the $ bills usually outlast the tire. I forgot about one. I changed the tire after the season and the $ had dried out and basically fell out of the tire in pieces.
@@johnpickett8041 I usually don’t do a lot of road/highway riding so I rarely have to be concerned about puncture hazards. With more than 100 miles of mostly paved rail trails near my house, this was my first flat in more than 20 years - but I always have a spare tube along.
You mention you have a Jamis Renegade. I have one too - it’s had chain rub from day one. I’ve tinkered with it - so has by lbs but to no avail. Have you dealt with this on yours?
@@djgregmack interesting you mention that. When I use the top/big front chain ring, the chain would often run/rattle on the front derailleur. I discovered by accident that if I give the front derailleur shifter a slight half-step of a downshift, it stops rubbing. It’s like a real quick tap of the shifter. Maybe this will help. I think it’s because the cable is stretched.
@@AnthonySirianni-r6d thanks for the safety advice. A hi-viz vest is a really great idea. Originally I wasn’t planning on highway riding and knew we’d be on rail trails most of the day.
