  • Want to give your subwoofer enclosure a tough durable "paint on" coating? Many people first think of bed liner but bed liner often requires expensive spray equipment and is solvent based and difficult to clean up. How can we roll it on? Is there a water based version that is easier to work with! There is! Let's check out AcryTechs "DuraTex" speaker cabinet coating!

    Bought the stuff expecting disappointment, depression and rehab. Product is amazing and I don't know how one could mess up an application with the roller. Little IR heat speeds up curing time too. It looks just like that amazing speaker box in this video. OCD completely satisfied so the project was actually completed.

      With 3 or 4 coats of DuraTex your box will be water resistant. The DuraTex will protect the underlying surface.

  • @elkboy888
    @elkboy888 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would this also add additional strength to the box? We're always looking for acoustically dead enclosures/panels and I'm curious if a coating like this adds anything? I'm also curious if there's any notable difference in the way the enclosure sounds (before vs after treatment)? Or am I over imagining the durability of the coating? There's that familiar 'coated' sound at 0:09 when Mark knocks on the box though so that made me wonder about all this.

      Hi Thomas. Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, this will bond to MDF nicely. No, it does not add a lot of weight at all. Some of our customers apply just one coat. Most of our customers do two coats. A third coat is recommend if the box will be in an outdoor setting. The texture is achieved by using our blue foam texture rollers, so, yes, you will be able to achieve texture with just one coat of DuraTex.

    it's good stuff! don't use it on bare steel. it will still chip off sharp edges on wood easily but a couple swipes of 80 grit sand paper in your palm will solve that and don't use a paint tray, it will waste alot of product.

      Joe Lalock, agreed. I don't use a tray for it either. You are spot-on about sharp edges and corners. I prefer a 1/4 or 3/8" roundover on all corners.

    Looks like the box is made for a tiny sub, maybe a 6.5?

      @bayouboattrash 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      CRAZY DAYZ It has to be a very small sub to mount in that hole. Maybe an 8".

      Honestly looks like 5¼ at most... Unless he's got extremely long fingers/hands...

      The physical hole itself is 5.25, you can tell that by the amount of sheets of wood were cut. 6 full pieces and like a half piece on each end for a total of 7. Looks like 3/4 in material so that would be 5.25. So that would be about the right size for a 6.5

    Anybody: will this stick to fiberglass?

    • @acry-techcoatings8835
      @acry-techcoatings8835 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have had customers that have had good luck with DuraTex adhering to fiberglass. We always recommend doing a spot adhesion test first.
