Simple solution: Sell the house, eat the loss and rent somewhere closer to where he works. Having a proper work/life balance is more important than owning a house.
The money they save traveling to work (gas) would probably get the difference of rental and closer to work. The house should appraise for more than she thinks
I make about $45k-55k a year and I bought a $158k condo with a $916 mortgage ($200 of that is escrow).. After taxes insurance and the ridiculous prices of everything, I am left with like $500 to myself each month for discretionary spending or savings. I can't imagine owning $350k home with less income.

They can't afford an apartment in Toronto. They can't afford a parking space in Toronto. Send the kid somewhere else, they are going to be homeless for a few years until the can save up money to buy another place.

I thought I had problems till I see the callers calling into Dave Ramsey. It's a cruel world out there.
His commute for that income is patent insanity.
Simple solution: Sell the house, eat the loss and rent somewhere closer to where he works.
Having a proper work/life balance is more important than owning a house.
Uh the obvious second choice is for this lady to get a job as well and make it work. It’s either that, or sell the house.
The money they save traveling to work (gas) would probably get the difference of rental and closer to work. The house should appraise for more than she thinks
Also he can then pick up a second job and she can find a job as well.
If it costs $1,800 a month to live in town then they need to figure out the job part first.
How do they only have an 1100 payment on 280k?
Maybe they're paying only the interest? Though 1100 seems like low interest on a huge mortgage.
Thats just the principle and interest. Doesn't include Taxes and Insurance. The monthly payment on the $285k we financed is $1,220
How can they not figure that out?
Oh it's figured out, it's in the back of their head but they don't want to deal with it because they have the pressures of all the bills, and kids, etc. I've been there personally and it sucks. It's just problem after a problem compounding on itself and people get stuck and don't know how to fix it. And then you add depression on top of that.
The husband and wife both have very low IQs. She tossed in the 'people of faith' card, but even Dave wasn't buying that.
Get the house appraised!
No
I bet it’s worth about 20% more than she thinks it is too.
You don't even need it appraised to sell it duh
@@ape6355 that’s true - my main point was that they don’t seem to even know what it’s worth
@@LifeofKairo you are a bottom feeder. Got back to your broke channel. Don't be plagiarize Dave Ramsey
You guys all misunderstood. She said $3100 a month. Which is above average where I live in Canada.
She seems like such a sweet lady but they need to face reality that they need to move. Either sell at a loss or it gets foreclosed on anyway. Either way they are losing the house. Might need to find a 2 br , small apartment. Im sure they can find that in toronto. They don't need extra space right now.
They can't afford an apartment in Toronto. They can't afford a parking space in Toronto. Send the kid somewhere else, they are going to be homeless for a few years until the can save up money to buy another place.
Sad that they were lent the money in the first place. This was clearly not a workable situation from the beginning.
That mortgage was VERY workable..... for the bank.🙄
Maybe the wife was working then or the husband had a better job at the time, that is my guess. Or had a huge down payment
@@avocadogaming3942 I was trying to figure out how they qualified for the mortgage in the first place, and your comment makes the most sense.
They make 31k a year with another child on the way and are living in a 350k house with a mortgage payment of nearly 1200 a month. I just don't get it. Having a dream is one thing actually affording that dream is an entirely diff thing all together.
Too much house will slowly kill you. Been there, slowly draining money and building debt. It’s awful. Buy less than you think you can afford.
A 3 hour commute is a recipe for tragedy. It dramatically increases the probability of a traffic accident. Too many people die on the road.
Dave’s right. You can’t stare at your problems like a bird at a snake.
And they can't afford life insurance on the husband... which means even more risk than they know.
31k a month? @1:05 I think she's got stuff mixed up and its confusing me.
I think she misspoke because she began agreeing with $31K annually.
Sell the kids, sell your soul...
You can make more than 31k working t at McDonald’s, what the hell is he doing driving 90 minutes to make minimum wage?
people always try to convince you to hold on to the house if you can even if its a huge loss
Did I hear her right that he takes home $31,200 a month? I'm guessing she meant a year because if it were a month she wouldn't have bothered calling Dave!
What lender is letting ppl buy houses 10x their income? Is it bc it’s out in the middle of nowhere?
“Sell my house eh?”
oh F*ck ya bud
Sometimes you need to be extreme with your finances.
Also what is your interest rate if you are only paying 1200 a month a 350k that is ridiculously low
$350000 home.
$32000 income.
Who told them this could work?
The bank 🏦. Lol
If the house goes into foreclosure doesn't it take a couple years to get them out of there?
That's what I was wondering
At this point they already lost that house. It will take months to sell and from what she says they dont have months left. They have to act that day if they have any chance of not losing everything.
My State has a 9 month right of redemption, after the gavel.
The foreclosure process may take a number of months in Canada...that gives them a little time.
Okay I'm confused, because I clearly hear her say $31,200 a month...Really seems like Dave got his wires crossed on this one.
If they made that a month, they wouldn't be struggling to pay off an 1100 mortgage.
Ya I was confused by that too but as
@@e1bo mentioned if they were making 31,200 a month they would not be struggling to pay an $1100/mortgage.
@@JJs_playground I agree, but there is also the thing niggling in the back of my head which is that she said the reason he wants to keep the job is the great pay. 31K a year in the US is barely 1800 take home. No one can live on that in Toronto with the higher taxes and higher cost of homes.
@@alicelaybourne1620 they've also knocked out over 70k in their mortgage. No small feat on 31k a year! So it definitely sounds like 31k a month to me.
She probably made a mistake
This caller and her husband are in complete denial. And this lady appears to the more saner of the two. Unbelievable.
Move in with parents for a year or two until debt is cleared and savings and income improve
Losing the house, next is a high mileage car.
She should start a webshop selling the seeds that the food plants generates. Big $ in doing that.
Why aren’t you doing it then?
@@thedragonhouse4991 Cos I ain't got no food plants.
Dave was rude to the other man. Totally cut him off.
i like the way Dave presses the button and cuts the person off when he dont want to hear anything more from that person
Somethings not right here. How is the house payment $1100 a month on a 350k home?? She said they have 280k left on the mortgage, that's impossible. Unless they didn't escrow taxes and insurance.
Hmm... Canada used to have such a thing as a 40 year mortgage. They're considered high risk and the interest rate is higher so you might pay less for the month but more overall. And maybe they had a big down payment? But ya, screwy numbers
Why do people buy houses when they're broke?
Denial? Brainwashed?
Or have MORE kids

Soo much better without that loud intro sound signature. Thank you!
Their mortgage is 1,000...a month?...our rent is 2,300 in NY for a one bedroom..water and heat included..
That's very cheap for NY
It is a house in the middle of nowhere she said. Rural areas are generally cheap.
@@ClaxtonBay123 yes and its long island though but its on the beach so its amazing..
@@lisak7380 I would probably rent out a room for that price...and stay there...she could have company and some extra cash and find a job from home..
oh; but I forgot the poor guy has a three hour commute..
How is their monthly payment 1100$ on a 300k house. How was that question not raised during this interview?
How is it not 1100?
That has to be principal and interest only because there's no way.
@@coreyadam6667 280k mortgage with 2.6 interest rate for 30 years is 1100

Why make smart solution- based decisions when you can just get knocked up again and then sit around and fret?
Seems like his pride with the house (selling at a loss) and working in a job that can provide for his family seems to be hurting their situation.
Rent sucks in Toronto. They may end up paying more. The income has to come in!
anything within 1.5 hour drive of Toronto is expensive, its unlikely they will sell at a loss. even for a fixer upper some rich person from the GTA will buy the property and just drop and rebuild the home, its happening all over the place round here.
why did she say 31k/month?
Nervous?
31k a year And a 300k house?!?? how did they get approved for this?!!
Great way to live but you must be prepared for it. Move closer to the crazy zone, garner other more profitable sources of income, prepare and move back out to a smaller place with a few acres. Keep leveling up from there. You all jumped the gun.
The HOUSING FERRY!!!!😂 DAVE IS A BEAST!!!!!!!!!!
Men, quit letting pride get in the way.... act now!
