You are doing great!! To be honest I have never heard the word "ennui", and after looking it up it is a French word with a very specific meaning. English has many words taken from French and German, sometimes completely unmodified. For example; Deja vu, schadenfreude, petite. I am sure there are more. Thank you for making and sharing your videos with us! Best wishes to you and your family!
Ennui is a word with a very specific feeling. Rather than being just laziness, ennui is the idea of being tired and bored because you just don't have anything exciting going on or anything to do. It's French, and an example of how English has a LOT of loan words from other languages sprinkled in it.
Thanks for partly sharing the 'Inside Head 2' story. I've never seen the movie yet, but I hope to someday. Speaking about 'ennui,' it's a noun that describes a feeling of lacking interest in something, or it can refer to boredom or laziness. If I would put the word into a sentence, it goes like this: 'I felt a deep sense of ennui during the long, quiet day' The sentence means that I experienced a strong feeling of boredom or lack of interest while spending a long quiet day. The use of "deep sense of ennui" expresses that my boredom was suggestive, suggesting that I was not engaged or entertained during that time. Sorry for the long explanation yet thanks for reading. Keep up the meaningful videos!
Very skillful review of the movie and beautifully noted lesson. 👏 In my opinion, the word "ennui" is a very rarely used word in the English lexicon. From my experience, the word "id" (from psychology) is more common, yet I can count the number times I have seen "id" referenced in pop culture during my life on one hand.
I'm 33 years old, and only speak English. The first time I heard the word 'Ennui' was in this video, and I'm sure no one I know has ever heard the word before. I guess it's a new word for everyone. 😅
My Monday is going good too, it’s getting to the time of year where my work slows down. So I can relax a bit more throughout the day and I don’t have to worry about fulfilling so many orders. I’ve seen the first movie, but I haven’t seen this sequel yet. And your English sounds really good today. There were a few moments where you were talking so smooth that it sounded like you were a native speaker! Good job! And I have never heard that word before either lol, I wouldn’t worry about it
Even though it's taken from French, the meaning of ennui when used in English is a little bit different than in French. In French, ennui has a few different meanings. It can mean boredom, but we also use it to mean that we miss something or someone.
Most English speakers would need to look up the definition of ennui too! It is an artistic word and compound emotion, so when people use it in daily life to describe themselves, they either sound awkward or pretentious (and the person they are talking to might say "huh?"). In daily life you should talk about a more concrete feeling. Use "bored", "depressed", "dull", and so on. The word works very well in analysis, so you definitely used it well in this video! It also works very well in poetry. Talk about feeling ennui, e.g. "they feel ennui". Or talk about possessing ennui, e.g. "her ennui was unbearable". Even apply it to abstract things to describe their mood, e.g. "the 19th century was full of ennui".
enjoying the daily uploads! i watched some of your first videos and there's already pretty major improvements to your English, very fun to see, keep going :)
Thank you for uploading the video two days in a row. I think this shows your sincerity. I haven't studied English for a long time, but your video gives me motivation to study. I always support you, waiting for the day we can talk someday.
I'm sorry you are sad and depressed. You sound sad. Do not kill yourself even if you think you are worthless. You are worth something to me and all your fans. Your english is great. I'm sorry you feel bad and it's okay to ask me anything that will make you feel better.

As stated by others, English is a mix of several languages. My favorite German word that I use frequently as an English speaker is weltschmerz.

I don’t know if you will enjoy the style, but related to the lesson you took from the movie I want to recommend this song “Bad Days” by Fear Before
Great video , happy monday
I think most Americans, especially younger generations, wouldn't know the word ennui. It just isn't used very often any more.

I understand 'ennui' from the French, meaning boredom.
Hey baby 🙋🏾♂️😘💕
If you want to practice with an English speaker, I used to tutor Japanese and Chinese people on skype.
It is a nice movie. Did you watch it in Japanese or English?
I watched it in Japanese. I wanted to watch it with English subtitles but there was no option for that.
