The Fractured Legacy Of Kevin Durant

  • When we look back at the all time greats like LeBron, Kobe, Steph, Dirk and Giannis. They all had moments where they had meltdowns and had times of failure. There were narratives being told about their legacies and they had something to prove to everyone and they found the will to win on their own terms and each of them had their defining moment for their careers on the biggest stage that will forever be viewed in a positive way and that is what made them legends. But for KD, he has had amazing moments on the biggest stage but he has never had his defining moment for his career. His legacy will be viewed differently to many as someone who joined the greatest regular season team of all time after losing to them in a winnable series. A player who won titles but they were never viewed as “real championships”. Someone who left a team that was able to win before and after his departure and a player who failed to win without a superteam. So while Durant is a 2x Champion, he paid the ultimate price that would leave his legacy when it is all said and done…Fractured.

If he got all 3 chp., he hurt his legacy w/ his thin skin antics, moving around, and creating a team of Big 3 in NJ that crashed and burned! IMO it's Karma for someone who was wanted by GS, stroked his ego, paid him big time, but it wasn't enough! It was Curry's team so winning wasn't enough! That's fk'd up thinking in the head, but he isn't the only one doing this stupid shit! Tyreek Hill left KC/Mahomes to go to Miami for $$ losing out on 2 Super Bowls! Dude is an idiot that only wants to play Iso-Ball not realizing that this does not work in the playoffs...Especially in Phoenix, a team with no playmaking whatsoever. Why is every shot difficult against the Wolves? No point guard and the predictability of their offense. Why can't the Suns get any stops? I’m an “old head” when it comes to the NBA.
To make an 1980s comparison, Kevin Durant joining Golden State would be like Michael Jordan joining either the Celtics or Pistons in the 1980s.
That would have been unheard of back then. Jordan would have never even considered joining either team. On the other side, both Bird and Isiah would have never signed off on that either.
Unfortunately, things changed when LeBron went to Miami. Players wanted to take shortcuts and form super teams.

Most people think that the Steph-KD warriors was KD's team. However, as Charles Barkley aptly put it, he was just a bus rider. KD may have been the best player on that team, but Steph was the leader and the core of that team.
KD's talent is undeniable, but I think he will be remembered as the guy who followed LeBron's brueprint of forming superteams but did not have as much success.

    • @Rayven2711
      @Rayven2711 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

IMO the teams KD was on, except for the GSW, all had the same issue. Yes, you are right about KD not being a leader but neither were his teammates and thats where his career went south. You could argue that KD has played with some of the most skilled players in NBA history and only has 1 NBA Finals in 2012 (not counting his time with the Warriors) to show for.
      OKC - Westbrook, Ibaka, Adams
      BKN - Harden, Kyrie
      PHX - Booker, Beal
None of these players are Batman...due to cap restrictions there were very little Alfreds (capable Roleplayers) on KD's teams. Just a lot of Robins and after leaving GSW just Robins that barely play any defense.
Also KD teams seem to struggle a lot with chemistry issues, which is another reason for limited success.

Bron doing something similar to KD would be going to the Spurs dynasty team that beat him or KG and Pierce Celtic team. He goes to those teams he hurts the league and kills the competitive balance of the league the same way KD did. Honestly speaking hooking up with Wade and Bosh wasn't the easiest way to get rings. He had at least 4 to 5 other teams that He would have gotten rings or even more than what he did at Miami. Spurs,Celtics,Bulls,Pacers and even Lakers with a older Kobe. I truly believe that title don't define a career. It's a important part but players have to prove themselves that the Game has more to offer than just a ring. It's ok to gain respect just because you're real. And that's why i believe in Giannis as a superstar

I disagree that he was the best player in 17-18. He was completely free on that super team. I actually think he earned that title in ‘21 in that series against Milwaukee.

The thing I think everyone underrates about KD is his absolute *love* of the game. It's why I'm such a fan and why it's so fun to watch him play.
I couldn't be more bummed about him, Harden and Westbrook not taking that final step to win the first of a few chips. That would have put him in the GOAT conversation like Kobe.
Easily one of the best scorers of all time. It's like you used Kobe as a mold, stretched him out, and made him better at shooting 3s. Just didn't have things go his way/have the resilience to overcome his teams circumstances.

Still one of my best players in recent times, I did want him to get a ring... So I guess he went and got one😂 I was more for him than I was Golden State as a team at that time. I do really wish OKC could've gotten it with them, although I wasn't a Westbrook fan at all back then (his attitude, and his running and gunning), but I was a fan of them as a duo. Haven't been into the league probably since KD got his first ring (Due to personal reasons), but I hate to see how the perception of him has changed over time😢

KD will go down as the second best player in an era where the first best player was a top 2 player all time. No amount of bad decisions change your skill as a basketball player. he was on the team with Steph. They were both in their prime and KD was the best player on that team. So KD is better than Steph. All this "they won without him" stuff is meaningless. Steph won all his rings because he had a franchise that didn't care about money. The owners even sold a stake in the team to "fund Steph's prime." and KD had Kyrie in full Kyrie mode. Steph didn't win another ring because he's better than KD. There are a tone of variables that can either win you or lose you a title, it's not just about one players ability. If you put a 27 year old KD on the Chicago Bulls in the 90's instead of MJ he could be the GOAT 🤷‍♂ Why not?
