Very informative video, mate! I use the rod for kingies and other pelagic species. After a year of usage, I recently found there were some bubbles/gaps at the two largest guide seats. They look like the coating or epoxy is about to come off. Have you encountered anything similar on your rod? Many thanks.

Great videos thanks for the information. Any reason why you went the 4000 size reel and not the 5000 ? Im thinking about getting the reel but not sure which one to get? will be using the reel for kingfish and SBT from a boat.

4000 just feels better with the slugger for me. I use the combo for targeting snapper off the rocks too so wanted to keep it small

    nice video mate.
Do u think the slugger a bit short for shore casting? I’m going to buy a 5k Certate

Fished mine a few times off the rocks now and it feels solid but I wish the reel seat was lower on the rod. To me, the length of the butt is excessive and I do wish the top part of the rod was a bit longer for casting. My mate got a shimano hardrocker bb (86H), and it's better in the areas that I mentioned. Slightly lower castweight range though, feels better suited for casting and retrieving metal jigs, but still able to use light stickbaits

For kingfish ive just purchased Diawa saltiga 12 strand p.e 2.5 braid. On a
Certate 5000 afk, diawa Sea jigger 19 325h,
Am i gonna be at disadvantage.? pe3 was not available 😞..

All depends on where you are fishing. Over sandy areas relatively free of structure you will be all good. Bombies everywhere you will struggle on PE2 or pe3

Hey Brother, i have this exact set up but i got it a while ago so its the old certate with the slugger. Cracking combo. Watch out for that overpriced daiwa 12strand braid, it is total garbage imo. It feels incredible but the advertising strength is way off as the braid will break at a much lower rate than it states. I tested it several times at my local tackle store with their machine, i really really despise it. anyway tight lines

The advertised breaking strength (or the breaking strength printed on the packaging) of Japanese braid is the maximum breaking strength. It is the greatest breaking strength found in the testing of the braid - it can be a fair bit different from the average breaking strength. Braid does not have one consistent breaking strength - instead its strength varies from place to place along its length.
The Japanese way of labelling braid (the strength of braid) is quite different from the American way - which is to understate the strength by a lot.

Cheers for the reply mate - so far I have had no issues with it at all (hence recommending it). Will keep testing it! Cheers

watch out for the new 8 strand saltiga braid as well. Same overstated breaking strain and super thin so one run from a king into rocks will bust off PE3 line. So annoying
