I think the SC 430 is the prettiest, and most nearly perfect car Lexus has produced. For those who complain about the tiny back seat, it having a back seat reduces the insurance by it being classified as a sports coupe rather than a sports car, so thank you Lexus!

The back seat is perfect for bags of shopping.
And the trunk space is actually pretty large with the top up👍🏼
I had the same headlight yellowing issue with a 2006 BMW 5 series. I just used a DIY headlight restoration kit with the fine sand paper and resins and it worked perfectly.

Hi Thomas, I commented on your Lexus several months ago in congratulating you on your purchase. I agree with the others below that if those are the few things that concern you about the car, that's not to bad. You know what, I actually like the "power antenna" because it recalls a day when all the very expensive luxury cars had them. So, I see it as unique and a very special attribute to the car. One thing I kind-of agree with you on is that there is no way to unlock the trunk with your key. I learned a valuable lesson the hard-way with this problem. I'll try to make my story short. I came out of a grocery store and loaded my groceries into the trunk of the car and closed the lid. Immediately I realized that I laid my keys into the trunk! I was locked out of my SC!! I called a tow truck to get me into the cabin of the car but without a key none of electric will work on the car. I couldn't open the trunk!!! I had to take a taxi home and come back with another extra key. OMG! Now, here's my advice because there is another way, if you didn't already know, to get into the trunk. Open the BOTTOM arm rest and LIFT UP the CARPET on the bottom and you'll see a PULL-RING which will open your trunk. Lexus thought of everything! Now, if you didn't know about it, you can thank me later! Ha! The SC is a GREAT car! Enjoy her...
Thank you thank you thank you. I had a incident last week. Battery flat. Could get into drivers door with key but not the boot, where my battery booster is kept to start the car hao it
Had to call the AA to start car then open with key fob button. Not anymore thank you.

Always make sure you have a second programmed key
If you only have one it's mega expensive if you lose it as car electronic module has to be changed also
So please get a spare programmed as not so expensive.
Back seats only for you to get cheaper insurance, 2 seats will be way higher payment for insurance
Yeah I think so, it is certainly cheaper than my Z4 I had previously.
5 things I hate on my 2008 SC 430: 1) The relative poor technological content. I do have a Renault Laguna coupe which has pretty cool features that are missing in my LEXUS, like front and rear sensors, AUX IN audio , the little door where to fill the tank is also the stopper , it's an all in one piece which is great! The key less go is probably the thing I miss the most 2) Indeed , the radius is quite problematic in France where streets can be narrow 3) The gearbox management with its weird design.
Well....in fact I cannot find more inconvenients in this car.

Great video Thomas, ours is immaculate and nothing but a pleasure to drive and own. With less than five for sale in my country (currently) they are truly a future collectable in my opinion, as such we prepared to put up with a few things like you mentioned. I recently watched an in-depth video on a Bentley continental convertible and it wasn't too far removed from the SC430 or a least had some similarities. I could be wrong but Lexus was targeting a market beyond Mercedes and BMW when they designed this controversial car .As far a future collectable or not goes, we are just thrilled to have one of these nestled in the garage with collection of other convertibles and love the fact that everyone seems to have an option on it.

2 things I don't like my SC430 : No keyless start and no backup camera. Also turning radius could be shorter. My Genesis V8 which is a much bigger car but has a shorter turning radius.
very true!! The RX got a reversing camera so you would think they would have added it to their flagship :)
The only thing i dislike about the SC is its no long made and so i cant buy a newer one !

Thomas I have a Silver 2004 had trouble with the roof and turned into two faults
One fault was a snapped cable on passenger side preventing unlatch of one side near rear roof pillar,now replaced
Second fault not yet resolved but if I disconnect battery for 10 seconds when closed it opens perfectly so not mechanical
Probably a limit switch going faulty
Need Techstream software to identify the switch.
Despite this love the car and as now retired will keep forever and resolve issues as they arise,it is as they say a pipe and slippers car.
Very high quality build but built for the American market cheap fuel and straight roads.
I love the wood and leather which is almost like new after 17 years
I would buy another tomorrow.
As long as the aerial works well as mine does a light silicon grease once a month
Mine is on 19 inch aftermarket wheels and greatly improves the look
I have had 20 new BMWs in my life and wouldn't swap any of them for my Lex

Apply 3M uv protectant after you do the toothpaste treatment and it will stay clear a lot longer..thanks to Chris Fix for that tip!

Hi Thomas, my 5 things - 1 back seats, 2 ride handling compromise, 3 low tech compared to previous Soarer, 4 wooden steering wheel, 5 front seat belts. It's old but the dual aerial works well, one in the windscreen too. Back seats offer extra space for storage. The LC500 cab boot looks very poor by comparison, the standard key looks even more plain than your upgrade version. Like your vids keep them coming, sparks thought and debate.
Replace your shock absorbers with some quality gas units, it will transform the car, in ride handling steering and braking. It certainly did to mine.

@@RevLexus The wooden wheel looks classy but I have a leather sports wheel that's better for assured grip.
@@mmcin719 I agree. I have a 2006 SC430 and Lexus replaced the shocks in 2005 to fix the issue of ride comfort. You can definitely tell the difference in driving a pre-2005 and a post 2005 model
I love your vids about the SC430 as it is like watching my car on UTube, as it is identical to yours. In all honesty if they are the only negatives about the car they are pretty minor. My boot has even less room than yours due a factory fitted spare tyre. If the ariel does break they are dirt cheap and easy to obtain.

I have a 2004 and I really love the car, but my 5 things: 1 - the 4.3-liter V-8 engine is a great power plant, but having to replace the timing belt every 90K miles is a big maintenance cost. Depending upon how much you drive, this might have to be done every 4 years or so. 2 - the car is very heavy which hinders performance, handling, etc. 3 - poor fuel mileage. See #1 and #2 above. 4 - the high cost of repairs/parts, although the car seems to have fewer repair events than other luxury vehicles and 5 - having to demonstrate the hardtop to convertible operation to everyone (I really don't hate this).
When this car was new it was £65, 000. It has exceptional quality materials and fittings So that's why the parts are high. However some of the parts used are Toyota parts and are very much cheaper. Lexus (Toyota) battery £70. Front wing indicator light fitting £34……etc
5th on is relatable. Nobody believes you until the top is gone!

That is true! The Merc Sl is a 2 seater, the newer LC 500 has a little bit more room in the rear. If you check out the other videos I made on my channel, there are videos of me sitting in the rear seats of both Lexus models :)

It must be a spec thing, but I thought there was on one spec? Anyway, I've a 2002 with no sensors front or back, which is annoying 😂 Btw love yer channel, keep up the good work!
@@exundfluriba Thank you, I know I thought there was meant to be one spec in the UK. I have seen some North American SC 430 cars without the folding mirrors or the sat nav!!

Um for 1 that's not the original key fob , 2 ALL plastic headlights do that, 3 um I can stick 200.00 of Walmart grocerys in the trunk and still put the roof down. 4 so what if your trunk doesn't have a keyhole big deal, and 5 just buy a Bluetooth tape cassette and connect it to your phone ,poof instant Pandora or any thing you want really. The fact remains its an old car wtf do you want really!!!!?

Fact is- even the very last 2010 model is now 14 years old! and the oldest 2002 is 22 years old! So PLEASE do piss and moan about "technology"! its an OLD car! Go buy a new car if you want that junk. My 1970 HemiCuda has NONE of it...which is why I LOVE it!

All good! My point here is that old cars are just that- old! Plastic headlights age sitting out in the sun as the years slip by. Technology moves on. What we expect to find on even the most basic new cars simply won't be found even on the finest and most expensive old cars. So, we have to adjust our expectations when we consider old cars. So, I understand what you mean and even agree! I wish my SC430 had a lot of the features found on my new Highlander! Stuff like bluetooth, aux port, collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, rear camera, parking radar, yada yada. But then, where is the nostalgia with all that? Its an old car!
