You 100% missed the story. The story is that Robinhood, TD Ameritrade and Interactive Brokers have halted purchases on GameStock. This means that these trading companies are protecting the hedge funds. That is the story that needs to be told.

Seeing the sudden surge in price, I waited out this morning and decided to sell all my dogecoins at 7:15 ish. Now I have 180k. I'm laughing to the cryptobank. I'm going to pay off my student loan balance, and you know I'm gonna the whole rest of this money in a portfolio for mixed short-long term investments with a firm. Disclaimer This my understanding A short sale is basically this, borrow 100 shares of GameSpot at 10$ each. So on paper I owe you 1000$ OR 100 shares. I sell the shares, now I have 1000$, hopefully (for me) the shares drop to 1$ each. I use the 1000$ I made from my initial sale to buy 100 new shares at 1$ each. I pay you back your 100 shares, and pocket the difference. What happened was large hedge funds tried the above, but Reddit dropped in and then drove the price up a LOT, now the people who borrowed shares can't afford to buy them back.
I'm not an expert... here's how I understand it. Feel free to correct me if you're a trading expert. "Normal" trading - buy stocks and hope the price will go up. Sell it when price is higher than your purchase price and you'll end up with more money. Short sell (opposite of "normal" trading) - sell stocks (that you don't own) and hope that price will drop. Buy it back when price is lower and you got more money. Hedge funds are doing exactly that (short sell) and hope that Gamestop stock will drop but their plan turns upside down when redditors drive up the price. I heard it goes up by 1700%.

It kind of is related to video games. In the first instance I suspect that the online community wouldn’t have felt so comfortable betting on something if it wasn’t something they were so comfortable with. And secondly, they also had a sense of how despite the outdated aspect of gamestop’s physical stores, their position as a trusted retailer of games, consoles and limited edition products means that they are still well situated in a very buoyant industry. They had, in a very narrow sense, insider knowledge (nothing illegal). So it felt good to bet against big enough investors who have probably never set foot in a GameStop and hardly even played a game.
She misses the detail that these hedge funds that were shorting GameStop were getting greedy and borrowing more stocks than were available to buy from the stock market. This is what sets up the situation for the short squeeze which is a rare event: the hedge funds expected people to sell their GameStop stocks since they're decreasing in value so they can buy them up to cover their shorts, but if people start buying and holding and decreasing the amount of stocks that are available to buy, this drives up the price of the stock and those hedge funds lose money on those shorts they set up. Additionally, the hedge funds have to fulfill the shorts on their due date and have to buy the stocks which drives up the price even more. But they can't cover them all since the rest of the stocks that they overborrowed on are being bought up and held onto by regular retail investors, so this creates huge demand from the hedge funds which can cause the stock price to skyrocket. In an actual fair and free market, the hedge funds go bankrupt while the regular retail investors profit.
What I want to know is: which agency provided information about companies being shorted? I heard they said that after GameStop they will not continue to make that information public.

It kind of is related to video games. In the first instance I suspect that the online community wouldn’t have felt so comfortable betting on something if it wasn’t something they were so comfortable with. And secondly, they also had a sense of how despite the outdated aspect of gamestop’s physical stores, their position as a trusted retailer of games, consoles and limited edition products means that they are still well situated in a very buoyant industry. They had, in a very narrow sense, insider knowledge (nothing illegal). So it felt good to bet against big enough investors who have probably never set foot in a GameStop and hardly even played a game.

She misses the detail that these hedge funds that were shorting GameStop were getting greedy and borrowing more stocks than were available to buy from the stock market. This is what sets up the situation for the short squeeze which is a rare event: the hedge funds expected people to sell their GameStop stocks since they're decreasing in value so they can buy them up to cover their shorts, but if people start buying and holding and decreasing the amount of stocks that are available to buy, this drives up the price of the stock and those hedge funds lose money on those shorts they set up. Additionally, the hedge funds have to fulfill the shorts on their due date and have to buy the stocks which drives up the price even more. But they can't cover them all since the rest of the stocks that they overborrowed on are being bought up and held onto by regular retail investors, so this creates huge demand from the hedge funds which can cause the stock price to skyrocket.
In an actual fair and free market, the hedge funds go bankrupt while the regular retail investors profit.

So when you short a stock you “borrow” the stock to “sell it” at the “current price” hoping to “buy it” back later for a “lesser price” and “keep the difference “ in price and “give the stock back”
BUT “IF”:
The stock price goes up you’ll lose money because you still “borrowed” something that you have to “give back” so now you have to buying back the stock at a higher price

Right now GME is being pumped by one subreddit full of millions. If the biggest ones are staying in then there won't be a mass selling of the stock. The bulls will drive it higher, and it seems the rest of the smaller holders are falling in line.

Hi. Can I ask u something? Many analysts said to force the GME shares to $800? Last nite I q to sell just 1 share @$800. The market price then was $278, within 200% margin to place orders. Twice the order was rejected! Do they have the right to reject any order within the 200% margin from market price? Tks. U r the best pro to ask.

It is except ritch people pay big money to assure they win everytime. But when regular people win then suddenly it's not a free market and restrictions need to be placed
You failed to mention that GameStop was shouted by more than the total amount of tradeable stock available. They shorted GME for like 170%. They were actively trying to bankrupt GameStop.
Important lesson.
