I wish air fryers would come with some type of legs to rest the plate on in the basket so it sits higher and closer to the heating elements. For where the plate normally sits, very close to the bottom, its fine for most cooking like chicken breast, wings, and thick chops. But when cooking a steak, i can't get that dark charred outside while pink inside. When it does look like it's cooked just right on both sides, the inside is over cooked. What I remedy for this is I saved a pie plate that came with a pie and placed it in the basket to give the plate more height so now my steaks are cooked perfectly, charred on the outside, pink in the middle. Works good for burgers too. Also use it to toast bagels on one side quicker. I was going to say as an added bonus to using the pie plate is that it collects grease dripping so I don't have to clean the basket, but I would have to clean the pie plate anyways if I want to use it again, at least until I buy another pie :) Anyways, I checked on Amazon if they sell anything to put in a air fryer basket to raise the plate, but could not find anything. If anyone knows of anything on Amazon that I may have missed, I would appreciate the suggestion.
That's a brilliant tip! 🧑🍳 Using a pie plate to raise the food closer to the heating element is genius - especially for achieving that perfect charred steak or crispy burgers. I totally agree, having a built-in plate riser or adjustable rack in air fryers would be a game-changer. Some air fryers do come with racks, but they’re not always high enough for that effect. I did a quick search on Amazon, and while there aren't specific 'risers' marketed for air fryers, there are stainless steel steaming racks or trivets that might work similarly. Something like a small, flat rack could do the trick. Thanks again for sharing your tip - I’m sure a lot of viewers will find it helpful! And hey, getting another pie isn't a bad idea either! 😉🥧 If I come across any dedicated risers, I’ll be sure to share the link in the description!"
