    Does the towing line ever snap under certain pressure? Car ships can hold thousands of vehicles.

    I have been puzzling about V.S. prop equipped vessels or the ones that you work on.
    Is there a considered Bow & Stern or is it only labelled that way according to the deck machinery mounted or perhaps underwater hull shape?
    Can you push or pull any harder in either direction?
    Does question become moot/irrelevant?
    It seems like I see the vessel manoeuvring primarily toward what I considered to be the stern (by the engine exhaust).
    The videos are excellent.
    Thanks.

      +David Oxland There is a bow and stern. In the video you see the stern of the tug. The stern of the tug is much lower then the bow. The bow can take larger waves for example :) These tugs are also called 'tractor tugs'. The propellers are,mounted in the front of the ship and when sailing forward most of the tug is pulled thru the water. When pulling in forward direction there is a bit more power available then pushing astern because of the propeller settings. I hope you understand what I mean.... Explaining this in English is not so easy ;)

    • @peterjames2004
      @peterjames2004 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ShippingHarbors what i meant by that was the tug you were using was a bit rattly and and squeaky where as the 7200 hp tug is very quite and all you can hear is that beautiful engine thats all super video as usual no offence intended

      Haha yeah I know what you mean ! That irritating canary squeaky sound is the sound that you mean I think. At this moment I'm processing a new dual camera video and this time I killed the canary :-D it's produced by one of the exhaust protection grids, and with the next video I tied that grid down so it makes no more squeaky sound.

      How often are the boats out of the water in dry dock for maintenance? I think showing people what the Voith drive looks like would be interesting.

    • @ShippingHarbors
      @ShippingHarbors  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every few months the boats get a small maintenance, but it depends on the work and those periods are always different.Robert Hale
