  • In this video I talk about and show you how I completed (95%) the town of Aberlyng, including lighting and figures. I also give a shout out to @Amberlea-N-gauge-Railway and to @DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY in the hope that you will take some time to watch and subscribe to their channels.

I am so glad that Dai returned. Trust the rugby club to take him on a final tour. The town looks very good Steve. You do get things done quickly and the end result is very good. Nice to see the trains running. Stephen

Thanks Stephen - I had most of the buildings done from the last layout so it was just a case of placing them and wiring them up. I set out to have 4 locos running and have now managed to to get to 5 so am very happy. I need to start to look at collecting and storing stock now and invest in some rolling stock of quality.
      Regards
      Steve

Your work rate never ceased to amaze me,you have achieved more in a couple of months that I have in a year or more Great work.

A lot of the building's I had previously built from layout 1 so it was pretty quick to repair and place them this time, hence the work rate. NOw I will be working on the country scene and this will slow me down lol - plus the weather being so bad I had plenty of time on my hands!

Hi Steve, thank you so much for giving us a mention, we really appreciate it, we've giving Amberlea Model Railway a watch and subscribed. Fantastic work on the town - loved the running of the trains. You should feel rightly proud of what you've built so far - excellent 😊 cheers Euan

Thanks Euan - Now the next bit will be a lot trickier and slower but I have achieved everything I wanted to so far. Over the years I can add to the town and start to invest in new stock I think.

Hi Steve, wow! How many houses have you built, the whole town scene looks excellent and some of the views across it towards it to the backscene gave it some real depth. Well done mate, great work and I’m so pleased Dai has found his final resting place.
    Cheers for now Steve, John

HI John - I already had the majority of the houses from the old layout, just had to build two more really. Yes Dai will get his final resting place - unless the boyos change their mind!

Hi Steve! The town is looking awesome, and is much bigger than I'd envisaged when you started! Love the new kids playground and allotment scenes, and of course the funeral! Did you say you had five trains running? That's heart in mouth time isn't it? Lol! Loved the photo compilation! It really showed off the variety of great little scenes you've added to the layout! Keep up the good work mate! Will also be checking out the two channels you mentioned! All the best, Ian.

Yes Ian - five locos on four tracks - I can run 4 locos endlessly, but added a fifth on for the sound of the chuffing -just regulated the speeds of the two on the same track so they matched each other. The idea is to run 4 run arounds on four tracks plus a coal wagon rake that branches off from the coal mine to the harbour - if I get the layout right!

Brilliant! But I hate to think what the aggregated electric bill for the town would be 😀 Obviously before the inflation hit ...

Well the town has certainly come on and looks really good. I do think you are missing one building though and that is the public wash house. Houses in your era mostly didn't have indoor sanition and they used to go down the road for a bath and do the washing. You would probably need to scratch build it.

Ahhhn now then you've given me an idea --- back in the 60's when I was a small child I can still remember us having a tin bath on a saturday morning - it wasn't until the old rows above the tin mines were condemned and we got moved into the new council houses on an estate near the beach that we had a bathroom - but we still had an outside loo and a coal shed!

Are the houses with back yards Metcalf kits?

    • @lynganddistrict
      @lynganddistrict  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes - after some research and when I was starting out I decided that the town would be build from these Metcalfe kits, in stone.
