This straps are in fact completely accurate to action comics number one, they were there the first issue, some pages they were red but others they were just blue
Yes, first few appearances from Superman, his costume would look different from panel to panel, almost. The S-shield, the cape, the boots, the trunks. Cheap printing, rushed coloring, Shuster not having zeroed in entirely what the character looked like.
That John Byrne Superman figure I instantly recognized is the one they used in the TH-cam series “I’m a Marvel and I’m a DC.” I used to love those stupid videos lol!
Great review! John Byrne was one of my favorite Superman artists. I would love it if Mafex would make a version of his Superman with different head sculpts. Especially a smiling head sculpt. I have the Mafex hush Superman and I love that figure. I think they would make an excellent representation of his work in action figure form.
Love Superman ever since I saw Superman the animated series & both of the Justice League cartoons. So obviously,Bruce Timm & James Tucker pretty much shaped my mental image for the character. But I do love the artists that are featured in this vid. John Byrne especially. Aside from Byrne,I do love other artists. Like Ed Benes,Patrick Gleason,Doug Mahnke,Jorge Jimenez,Jim Cheung,Jerry Ordway,Francis Manapul & Ed McGuiness. Great video as always Trey!
As always loved the video, I would like to see maybe a Wolverine Panels to Plastics, keep up the amazing work, rly proud to me a subscriber of this channel!
Thank for this video ! DC Direct made so many variant of Superman Figure, Turner's version, McGuiness version, Lee's version, Miller's version. But my favorite is definitively the Man of Steel Byrne's version.
John Byrne is such a legend if you start reading Spider-Man from the beginning you go thru a bunch of MASTERS but for me when Byrne started drawing him for the marvel team ups it was like someone kicked in the door or shattered the glass ceiling idk pick a metaphor he did it. Another great video! Cheers!
The second figure you showed for Byrne reads to me as being more a Dan Jurgens Superman. The DC Direct Byrne figure at least had the hair right for Byrne's art if nothing else.
@@CarbonScoring Of course. I even own that one and it's overall a pretty represenative figure for the look of Superman in the Post-Crisis era starting in '86 from Byrne on through to about 2000 or so. It's a little Byrne, little bit Jurgens could even see a bit of Bogdonove in it. The first one is almost like a rough draft for trying to capture Byrne's artstyle it just doesn't quite get there IMO.
Awesome video, superman is my third favorite superheroe under spider man and batman, but for me The red and blue boy scout is The best superhero of all time and all The eras.
Hey CS 👋, cool stroll down memory lane for Superman. I've been buying older Mattel and DC Essentials & Direct figures online besides some McFarlane ones that I have too.
I'd say the Ed Mcguinness Public Enemies Superman is the greatest superman figure based on a specific art style. Tim Bruckner's sculpt really captures Mcguinness' stylizations.
The Superman that was in a 2-pack with Lois always looked like Kurt Schaffenberger's Superman to me. Admittedly, Swan and Schaffenberger's Superman look a lot alike. edit: the head on the "21 points of articulation Superman" figure (re-released with an angry face in the JLA line, in a 2-pack with Doomsday, etc.), is somewhat influenced by Ed McGuinness art, without it being a 1:1 recreation of his art in 3D form (DC Direct did that a few years later on the Superman/Batman line). Ed McGuinness was probably the most popular artist doing Superman at the time that figure was released.
Loved this one m8,if I was tortured I'd have to admit supes is and always has been my favourite superhero,I enjoy many many others but theres just something about the big blue boy scout that just works
A truly beautiful expression of love for the character. And such an erudite historical overview! Given your equally brilliant video about the history of Fantastic Four figurine depictions, I wonder if you might consider doing an on-depth review of the 1999 Jurgens/Thibert/Wright “Superman Fantastic Four” crossover book?
Mafex Hush Superman kinda bothers me. I guess it’s the proportions or something. It just looks off. Other than that, it’s the best Superman figure on the market ever!
Yes, just as I have asked for. You have done Batman. I would love to see the Flash for this and more DC mystery boxes for both heroes and villains (seperately). Do TMNT figures as well, ok? Will you be doing more panels to plastic videos?
Hello can u help me find a box full of marvel or DC action figure second hand recommended in cheap price??? Can we have a talk. Pls would really appreciate it,we don't have those types in our country....
It's a shame DC never made a bronze age accurate Curt Swan figure. A "Whatever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow" set would have been awesome! Opportunity missed.
Byrne picked a bad choice to show how dc direct was lazy with his figure. Cuz mignolas art is significantly more stylized compared to his standard art.

@@magnumcornetto exactly, I always thought that was very neat tho and provided us with many unique looks unironically
Thanks guys! Great pick up and facts! This is why I have the best viewers on TH-cam!!!
@@CarbonScoring huge fan of these vids, always happy to talk about the history of these icons
Mafex is killing it with their comic renditions of Superman.
Agree - they do strong work
That John Byrne Superman figure I instantly recognized is the one they used in the TH-cam series “I’m a Marvel and I’m a DC.” I used to love those stupid videos lol!
I knew I wasn't the only one who noticed!
I forgot about those - they were pretty funny!
That's nuts. Me and John bryne saw the logo the same way growing up. The 2 fishes. I had no idea it was an S till I was like 8
It really has helped me with drawing the symbol

What a great idea! I would love that!
Awesome video. Such an icon of a character
Thanks, Jared! Glad you approve!

Great video as always Trey!
Thanks, Andre - several of those artists you mentioned could be featured in a future P2P volume 2 for Superman!
13:30 "Hi I'm a Marvel. And I'm a DC."
that shuster figure is exactly the one I have with my action comics facsimile showing on my room :)
Perfect match!
We're do for a new updated John Byrne Superman action figure.
Without a doubt - but with the death of DC Direct (and Mr. Byrne's notoriously prickly nature) it may be a while
I really like DC so I can tell this is gonna be a banger
Oh my God I love superman
This probably one of your better series on this channel
Thanks! I am really proud of these and I hope this one is a success!
As always loved the video, I would like to see maybe a Wolverine Panels to Plastics, keep up the amazing work, rly proud to me a subscriber of this channel!
Thank you so much - I always appreciate my most loyal viewers!
Thank for this video ! DC Direct made so many variant of Superman Figure, Turner's version, McGuiness version, Lee's version, Miller's version. But my favorite is definitively the Man of Steel Byrne's version.
Glad you enjoyed it! You are right - the could do a month of videos just on the different artist version of Superman from DC Direct!
It’s finally here! Yes!
This series of videos is great and I can't wait to see you do Captain America
Thanks - these are some of my favorite ones to work on!
John Byrne is such a legend if you start reading Spider-Man from the beginning you go thru a bunch of MASTERS but for me when Byrne started drawing him for the marvel team ups it was like someone kicked in the door or shattered the glass ceiling idk pick a metaphor he did it. Loved those Claremont/Byrne MTU issues!
@@CarbonScoring such a great team those two
The second figure you showed for Byrne reads to me as being more a Dan Jurgens Superman. The DC Direct Byrne figure at least had the hair right for Byrne's art if nothing else.
Agree - neither of them is "perfect", but I think you can see how each has their merits

Please do Hulk next on Panels to Plastic
That could be fun! I just need people to get behind these and watch them...
Do the Punisher!!!!
Excellent video.thanks brother.
Glad you liked it!

Thanks for finding this video - glad you enjoyed it!
Loved your question about retro figures on Hasbro pulse yesterday 👍🏿
Thanks - I was pretty nervous recording that - hope I get to do more stuff in the future
@@CarbonScoring so do I 👍🏿
Hey CS 👋, cool stroll down memory lane for Superman. I've been buying older Mattel and DC Essentials & Direct figures online besides some McFarlane ones that I have too.
These that I featured are all exceptional
Green lantern or Wonder Woman would be good panels to plastics episodes
I have totally thought about those! And Flash!
Thank you for this rubric! It would be good to see Wolverine in it.
Wolvie is on the short list!
Odd their isn't a great Neal Adam Superman figure (yes we have the Superman vs Muhammad Ali by neca but to stylized with the black lines)
You are correct! Was talking with a friend about that very fact this morning
I'd say the Ed Mcguinness Public Enemies Superman is the greatest superman figure based on a specific art style. Tim Bruckner's sculpt really captures Mcguinness' stylizations.
You are so right - if this series continues, I wanted to do a whole episode on the Mcguinness figures cause they are so spot on
The Superman that was in a 2-pack with Lois always looked like Kurt Schaffenberger's Superman to me. Admittedly, Swan and Schaffenberger's Superman look a lot alike.

Great calls on all of that! I have the full Ed McGuinness line of figures - will totally get to a video on them at some point!
My forever favourite ❤️ love this one, man!
That makes me very proud!

The OG! No doubt!
ah it's the Itsjustsomerandomguy Supes.
Finally!!❤️❤️❤️
I would like to see the ninja turtles next and Could you make more superman videos I really like this video.🙂
Glad you enjoyed it! There is a ton of content coming!

Wow, thank you! These are the kind of comments that keep me going! Your idea on the FF/Supes crossover is a great one - I'll add it to the list!
Do you have a picture of the box for the figure shown at 16:45? I’d like to hunt for it but can’t find a match.
I wanted to see Jim lee Superman like dc direct and the Mafex
Mafex Hush Superman kinda bothers me. I guess it’s the proportions or something. It just looks off. Other than that, it’s the best Superman figure on the market ever!
That one is in line for volume 2…
Let’s gooooo boi
Can you do More Dc mystery boxes?
Heck yeah!
Yes, just as I have asked for. You have done Batman. I would love to see the Flash for this and more DC mystery boxes for both heroes and villains (seperately). Do TMNT figures as well, ok?
Will you be doing more panels to plastic videos?
I am hoping to continue P2P for many more episodes!
I lovin it
Thanks, Noah!
John Byrne hands down
Acho todos eles são muito importantes, não importa a época se e mais antigo ou e o mais novo de todos os jeitos ele e e sempre irá ser o Super Man.
What happened to this series??? It's so good
I may come back, but not enough views for the effort put in…
Are you willing to sell a mystery box
Hi hello I’m a kid that doesn’t have toys I was wondering if I can buy 3 of your boxes
Just name a piece and I will work for it
Not the first but I’m the 8th
Got it!
Hello can u help me find a box full of marvel or DC action figure second hand recommended in cheap price??? Can we have a talk. Pls would really appreciate it,we don't have those types in our country....
I am a huge fan can you give me one of your Miles Morales figures please 🙏🙏🙏 I love your content also keep up the good work ❤️❤️❤️
It's a shame DC never made a bronze age accurate Curt Swan figure. A "Whatever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow" set would have been awesome! Opportunity missed.
could you do more action figure giveaways i really want one i don't really think this will ever happen to me if do win a figure i would be so lucky
Byrne picked a bad choice to show how dc direct was lazy with his figure. Cuz mignolas art is significantly more stylized compared to his standard art.
Good point!
Except for the golden age version I think dc direct got all of the others ' off' 😝
“Kryptoneese or what you want to call it??”!!! How about………Kryptonian?
Yeah - kinda lost my mind for a minute there...
