      There's worse.
I had an entire Irish campaign in CK2 where not only I would exclusively marry gingers, not only would I grant Duchy and Kingdom titles only to gingers, but I would also keep inviting gingers at court and having them marry each other and make more gingers.

I married my 66 year old king to a 25 year old with great stats for the last years of his life and I had a single heir, not thinking they would get children anymore. Turns out my old King knocked her up 3 times before leaving this world 😂

  • @mickvanbreukelen7445

Another tip. It's usually not possible to marry into any land owner or heir, when their children will be of your dynasty. However, this is very easy for the heir of the current heir. Just 2 generations of patience before your dynasty rules that particular crown.

Yeah, I came to this conclusion shortly after my empire fell apart, and i had a more thorough look at the fine-print on the laws on inheritance.
Suddenly, i had claims not only to retake my old kingdoms, but 3 new kingdom claims of former allies... A few wars later and my empire more than tripled in size in a fraction of its lifespan.
Another thing to keep in mind that i have learned, is that your house members are basically free alliances: they don't count as an alliance, but can be called to war for the low price of free. The only limitation I've found regarding this is that alliances of any sort are useless if they are your with your vassals.

I was playing as Murchad of Ireland. I had just taken over all of Ireland and Wales and was halfway through Scotland when I realized that the queen of England was unmarried and my own wife had just died. I decided to conquer England last due to it being the biggest and most powerful British kingdom.
I married the queen, had a son, then murdered the queens son from former marriage and primary heir which made my son her new primary heir. I then disinherited my own primary heir so my new primary heir would inherit all of my titles plus the kingdom of England.
An entire kingdom added to my domain without ever fighting a battle

Marriage in CK3 can lead to some of the best anecdote generator moments. I'd married my daughter off for an alliance, her husband ended up dying in battle, i invited her back to my court and she ended up becoming friends with one of my knights, I married her to him and they had a happy ever after with two kids. I often choose a child's spouse by first looking at their friends, even looking in the courts of their friends for similar ages etc, really fits the role playing for me rather than always going for the "best" match.

I honestly think being gay isn't too bad. Your gay heir can still get married with a woman and they'll make babies. The problem (i think) is if your spouse / seduce target is gay. Your spouse will get massive negative opinion if you try to seduce / romance them, and your gay target will outright refuse you. Of course, the seduction tree removes this barrier, so there's that.

If your a count or a duke and can become a king you might want to wait to betroth or marry off your children because you will get way better options once you become that king than you get if you stay a duke. And if it's betrothed anyways your waiting to even marry so why betroth early to a lesser stat'ed spouse. So unless i need that alliance to take over the counties i would need to become a king. That or if you granted them a title and like a county/duchy they then might become independent character after some amount of years and be able to choose their own spouse. Otherwise i usually do wait to marry off children but every so often look for new options. Remember you can murder the spouse of the spouse you want so they can be married to your child too. Very powerful for breaking up Alliances with someone your about to go to war against or for stealing a really nice stat'ed wife/husband for one of your children; especially any Geniuses because that trait alone makes for the best Guardian tutors regardless of all the other stats they might have.

Do I get anything out of marrying my daughters not matrimonial?
There're a few Khans who'd take my daughter (not as the first wife though, but anyway, just asking) - if I just marry off my daughter to a ruler (or a heir) then the children won't be for my dynasty. But do I still get some benefits like behind the scenes power cause her kids will like my family? Is it in any way related/beneficial to my dynasty and my plays?
Also, I wonder if I can marry matrimonial to a heir heir and let's say, 2 generations (or murders) later, my grandkids will rule some country

  • @shawngillogly6873

My CK3 marriage philosophy: Best eugenics I can find to marry the heir. Alliances are nice. Traits are better. Genius. Fecund. Attractive. Strong. In that order.
"Normal" daughters get married for alliances/claims. Matrilineal is nice. But alliance power is primary. Triumphs of the genetics program get married matrilineally to the best trait I can find in a husband and landed. That way for the low cost of a minor title, I get better genes and more prestige.
2nd sons and down, if they're good, I betrothe them for the best balance of eugenics and alliance I can manage, and then land them at a title level that will prevent them cannibalizing my core holdings. If they're not good, they get married matrilineal or ordered to bring glory to the realm as the vanguard of our army. What can possibly go wrong?
