Argentina's journey from prosperity to decline highlights the crucial role of inclusive economic policies. It's truly a compelling lesson for nations worldwide...

It always seemed weird that Argentina hasn't done better for itself. Now if the TH-cam algorithm could share this explanation that would be great.

It’s obvious why it hasn’t done better. The government stole too much of the productive capacity of the country.

The historical context is very important to understand why Argentina hasn't progressed much over the years.

Surprised to see such low views on a good well-researched video! Love from India.

I have seen videos like this and they make it sound like it is some great mystery. The reason is there has never been a successful country in Latin America. Its the people. Argentina had a 50 year period with very low population when they could export beef. That is it. And this is the top country performance in the history of Latin America of all time.

That narrative is far too simplistic. A lot of states exported mainly one commodity but failed to materialize it into actual wealth. Argentina’s export wasn't just beef but a “diverse basket of products.” The country’s economy actually adapted to changes in world commodity prices, shifting focus to new items as demand for them rose. Other states, such as Australia, also had a similar trajectory, but with even less diverse exports. [Wool alone made almost half of all exports]

What ended up mattering is how much of the wealth actually ended up in the hands of the middle class - people who built businesses. In Argentina, the wealthy tried to protect their wealth and tried to isolate their economy with import substitution and the rest is history.
