I love watching Legend. His commentary and explainations are so well thought and articulate! I got to platinum with your "devotion to wide" deck, which I was really happy about considering I just started playing MTGA. Thanks!!
You should try out Wings of Hubris. The format is extremely grindy and the ground is locked up most of the time, and there is almost no artifact removal. The ability to give any one of your creatures flying at any time is just so strong.
Black's Lampad is amazing. Having had it several times in BR Sealed, using it to drain 3 and get enough in the graveyard for a big escape (including situations where you sac your Gorgon and then escape that same Gorgon again to edict).
@@LegenVD That's totally fair. It's so good as the only one-cost enabler and the reach it provides is insane but I've caught some of your other drafts and its not at all that you undervalue it.
Very very minor thing but you maybe could have avoided creatures when exiling graveyard for escape, for the sake of your saga. Only one of them in your deck though so it's basically insignificant.
I'm wondering something; with the inclusion of so many Exile effects, I never really though about what Exile means, in terms of narrative. When a creature is exiled from the graveyard, does that mean its spirit is annihilated?
I guess it depends on the flavor of the card. But yeah, usually it goes around annihilating what remains so it can nevwr be used again. Soul-Guide Lantern: Their souls are trapped in the underworld, the lantern carried them. Scavenging Harpy: It eats the remains of the creature. Without body, it can be reanimated. So on, so forth.
1:25:40 the opponent's slaughterpriest couldn't gain first strike by sacing treacherous blessing since the enchantment automatically sacs itself due to its own ability and fizzle's slaughter's ability it would get +2/0 but not first strike
One of the silliest things you can do in this format is sacrifice a saga to Slaughter-Priest of Mogis in response to its last trigger. "I already know how this story ends. Shuddup and lemme hit things!"
Cutting Lampad in sacrifice deck seems so wrong. This card won me 2 games vs Kiora Bests the Sea God in Sealed. Basically, the opponent was at 7 health, and I just sacked everything in the board + the cards I played before 3rd chapter activated. Especially great with cards like 2 drop which creates a goat on death. And Satyr's Cunning is absolutely horrible, it would've been play if the escape cost was "exile one other card", but as it is it just wastes our escape resources, you'd much rather spend them on Pharika's Spawn or the Ox. The 1/1 token also can't block, so it's essentially even worse than 0/1 goat.
There is a lot more variance in Sealed, pretty much at the mercy of what cards you open up. You either get bomb rares and removal or bust. In Draft, you can actually make synergistic decks if you know what to look for. I think draft is a lot more consistent and fun.
@@Gonbebe That is a difference I overlooked. I would not say I'm an amazing drafter but would like to get good enough where I can at least build my collection cheaply. I really enjoy LegenVD's videos because he explains what is driving his choices. I'll wait for traditional for now. Is WotC going to wait until the end of of this season to release Theros draft ranked?
@@karadason Yeah according to their events calendar, Theros Ranked Draft starts on Jan. 31. I'd also recommend checking out the Limited Resources podcast for general card evaluation and draft strategy.
As an average MTG player, I'm curious. He lists Pharika's Spawn's escape sac ability as a notable plus but seems against Pharika's Libation which has a bit wider effect at instant speed. Is this mainly because Pharika's Spawn sticks around afterwards?
i think it mostly has to do with the fact that you get to use Spawn more than once plus getting a body (and a very good one at that) on the board. the wideness from Libation is kind of irrelevant considering how there’s a ton of enchantment creatures in the set
I think you shouldn't write off Minion's Return so quickly. Having flash and being playable on your opponents creatures puts it WAY above the other like effects we've had in recent sets. Paired with removal it can sometimes just be a five or six mana Mind Control at instant speed. It's so far been an over-performer for me on MTGO and I suspect it will be on arena too especially since it seems overlooked by both humans and bots.
Does anyone else have a problem with sealed? For example it being BO1 for 2000 gems and if you get mana screwed or flooded or just don't unwrap any strong bombs or rares and don't have answers to opponents who do have bombs, there is not much you can do and just lose the draft pretty early on. I feel like sealed might be better as BO3, or if they reduced the buy in / prizes for BO1 I could get behind it more. It's disappointing because sealed could be a really fun format.
@Kel'Thuzad Wow I didn't know that and I definitely should have appealed. I unsealed 2 sweepers (W & R) which I couldn't build a deck around, a couple other very weak rares and Protean Thurmaturge was my strongest rare but I never even got to draw it. It also didn't help facing a turn four Haktos back to back. Anyway thank you for the tip! If I get that level of screwed again I'll definitely try to SS and appeal. And you're right, at least I got 9 packs out of it.
This was my first draft in the format and I agree that I undervalued Hierophant. Charger can be good in the right deck, although we didn't lack other Escape cards.

I like how you're being so careful with your Careless Celebrant.
lol
Mmm yes this makes sense
Oh boy, I've been waiting for this!!!!
Same
can't wait to learn theros draft
Right now BR seems the best colour combo to me, and going three colours is pretty common and easy
Had a amazing prealese went 3 and 1 with a dimir control deck thanks for all the help with the new set
Doing my first prerelease since Khans tomorrow. Thank you for putting up concise and quality videos to learn by.
man those reads! great content I love watching your vids.

With two Priests, Soulreaper, Final Flare and Warleader there seemed to be enough sacrifice enablers.

Your draft play is so sick.

Ps. Love the content
Good point, I was probably thinking of ways my opponents could have to exile my creatures and gain life.
@@LegenVD Yeah in your last game that was definitely a factor, but could have been in other games too I guess
Thanks LVD!! Sweetie!!

Slaughter Priest doesn't actually target enchantments that he sacrifices, so should still gain both benefits.
@@LegenVD I see, thanks for clarifying

Question, is it more effective for collecting cards to spend your gems on Sealed Drafting or Traditional Drafting?
Kevin Harada if you are decent at drafting draft is superior, However if you re bad player Sealed is way safer

When you read the flavor text on Omen of the Forge-
Purpheros created Embercleave???
Just a theory- a MTG theory.
He’s the man!!! No doubt!
It seems like wizards really supporting you with those draft picks wth

Well the spawn is already awesome without the sac ability so getting that for frew is awesome
While paying 3 mana and a card for it is not good

Where is ranked draft? I need that to get the gems to play traditional draft soon
Ranked draft usually comes out roughly two weeks after a new set drops

I’m 10 gems from playing draft. 10!!!
Hi LVD, What kind of a blue circle with 25 levels? Why do you have only a few game modes displayed on the right? Well, can someone tell me?
Nope, no one can tell you.

Definitely agree that Sealed would be more interesting as BO3.
You get 9 packs for 1800 gems, so it's not that bad.

IMO you undervalue the Hierophant and the charger. They might not be ideal for the rakdos synergy, but they gain a ton of value.
